My best Can-Am memory is standing on the bridge at Riverside and hearing the M8's shifting into high gear going towards turn 9....How sweet it was.

Wow...scary moment for Rick Knoop, the stopped car on the track was not easy to see!

Very cool, thanks for posting. I saw the Can-Am races at Laguna in 72 and 73. My favorite race cars.

      Laguna Seca Can-Am 71 - 73 and Trans-Am 71 - 72. Best racing I've ever attended or watched on video.

No paddle shift, no rev limiters, have to use both feet on three pedals. Make sure the car is pointed in the right direction before you put the power down. THAT'S DRIVING. Love the snarling sound of those V8's

Plus you have a steering wheel that is just for steering, it's not a friging computer

And love how close the third and fourth gears are...from O.M.G to Holy F#$&!! ☺

The Monterey Historic’s is a great event. The CanAm cars are without a doubt one of the highlights.

I remember watching one of these at Silverstone and when changing up a gear gear down the old start finish straight you could see the immediate torque unsettle the car as it went through the curve,, great to watch.

Wow - beautiful car and fine job of driving it..laps in the 1:27 - 1:28 range are terrific, considering you are hanging a very nice piece of racing history out there... Well done, Rick!

Thank you Mr. Thunder driving this McLarenM8F9-72 is a terrific honor in so many ways. To me the Can Am series was and will always be one of the most respected series in the history of racing..Open rule book engineers, mechanics, and drivers were all challenging the absolute ultimate...

Very nice riding along with ya. I loved these cars so much as a kid I just bought a wannabe... Toyota WSR but it has been Hayabusatized. Had to buy it cuz it looks a lot like the M8F. I should get out to one of these races to see this wonderful old iron run.

Pretty sure the red M8F #51 in front is Roger Williams, all the way from Auckland, New Zealand. I love watching him at our local track when he has the M8 out.

He did a nice job staying in front of Rick Knoop.

Love the Shangri La Don Blakeslee fighting eagle on the helmet! Great driving!

Wow... Takes my breath away. Watching the red car pull away, it's exhaust and unburned gasoline burring it's shape.. the explosive acceleration as he floors it coming off corners the blue car fighting the steering wheel as the tires spin....this is a wet dream for motor heads. Long live the mighty Can Am cars. Faster than the Indy and even the F1 cars of their times, but with (mostly) American V8's.

Wow, that red car just squirts out of the screw nice especially that first left right transition...

Close call with the orange car to driver's left before the corkscrew.

That was a close call, very dangerous to come up on a stalled car when sight is blocked by the car in front.

There was a waved yellow at the marshal's post just before.

Man those straights are short. Hit the power upshift a couple of gears and hard on the brakes

If you're too afraid to pass another car, why in the world do you even drive a Can-Am car.?
