I grew up in Brentwood on Long Island these stories bring back a lot of memories. You remind me of my uncle who was into some book making and clearly other stuff because he always had nice cars and jewelry. But I only saw him at family get togethers and funerals. A lot of crazy stuff was going on back in the 80s and 90s and I don't think we'll ever see a world like this again. Especially after 9/11.
You can tell since you're such a good story teller that you've had to tell these stories a million times. Documenting it was the perfect idea so you can tell them the way you would in person and everyone can enjoy that experience. Thank you for sharing your story

Larry Lawton you deserve a lot of respect. I've been following you for awhile and I have to respect you because you've shown sympathy for people I couldn't. I've never been to prison or done hard time. I've been in and out of jail and have never snitched. I've always had the mind-set "If you can't hold your own ground, you don't deserve your homies to back you up." I'm no better than anyone else. People get desparate when times and situations get desperate. I can't stay mad at certain people anymore. You've taught me that. I just want to say thank you.

I was also a Boatswain mate in the coast guard, I served 87-95 I worked at governors island and I turned down transfer to fort totten. I lived in Thriggs Neck and Brooklyn for a while. Much later on I went to SUNY maritime. When will you be in the NY area? I would love to shake your hand.

I am glad you are here to tell it. I was "wild" back in my day. I have now had a stroke. I wonder if my past "wild" life caught up with me via the stroke. It is horrible because the stroke "took out" a lot of my vision and what's left is distorted all the time. Best to you.

Just watched con air. Haven't seen in maybe 10 years. Gives me anxiety after hearing your story about con air. I hate being shackled up. Can't move you itch but can't scratch. I thought I was gonna have a heart attack just the hour here and there locked down completely shackled. Everyone thought I was a murderer. I was the only one in shackles in county at the time. I let everyone believe what they wanted to hahaha. Anyways much love Larry glad your back and helping our youth and our community's. I will never go back toold ways but when I think about it, I instantly think of everything you have said.

I just found out about you today through your Vanity Fair video and I finally know what I’m gonna get for my uncle for Christmas. He loves crime novels, he’s always in the middle of one, but I know nothing about the genre so I was just gonna get him the latest James Paterson or something and hope for the best but I know for sure he’s gonna love this book and have a mancrush on the life you’ve lived when he finishes it. He’s also Italian, loves gambling, has a friend named Tony who’s pretty fat and hinted a couple of times over the years that he was friends with some “connected” dudes in the 80s and 90s - I don’t know if there’s ever been enough “connected dudes” here in Melbourne, Australia to make it believable that he was friends with any, but either way I’m getting Kris Kringle brownie points this year!
