@games take note. This is called listening to your customers. The Retrobit Generations came out and it wasn't very good. Retrobit went back and made changes based on feedback and the Retrocade was much improved. Now they have made it even better and theres a VERSION NUMBER on the box with ACURATE packaging.
I recently sold my Super Retrocade 1.0v and got the 1.1v and I have seven SD cards with seven different systems on each as you say in your video. I thoroughly enjoy the system as I take it to work and play it with ease at the hospital. Excellent video and tutorial as always!

I learned to make my covers , with wwf wrestle fest game, by picking a different cover, , at first it was hard , but now , It came out great , by downloading and google a picture, change the picture to a PNG with a program called Format Factory , wow.. really works . i love your videos
The SuperRetrocade is an awesome little plug and play. It got me back into enjoying gaming again and brought me to MLP’s channel! But I think it’s stinks RetroBit never released a firmware update for us 1.0 owners ☹️ I get they want to make money but it leaves a bitter taste 🤔
Well I got his from a UK retailer. It's emulation is unstable and often very impaired regarding some games. Arcade and NES games save and load fast but SNES games take ages to save and load for some reason. Not the plug and play market's finest hour this.
@@philgower5551 It would seem so but for no logical reason. I bought it last year so it should be the latest firmware version. Some games do run fine like Final Fight 3 but others such as Crude Buster are so amazingly bad that they have to be seen to be believed. If Retro Bit gave the UK a different version than to the U.S version then they messed up big time.
Glad your Turbografx 16 roms run on this. I use my Super Retrocade almost every day with my arcade sticks. Turbografx 16 is the only system I don't have and has created the most impressive mini yet. I plan on collecting that mini next and having all the roms on this device once again.
Any plans to rip this apart and compare the internals? If the hardware is identical, I hope someone can figure out how to flash the firmware for early adopters.
I just gutted mine and put it inside the dual arcade stick by Atari from Micro Center and connected it all up. I was shocked that it worked completely with the controller board. Now I got a sweet arcade setup with the added arcade pack for it from arcade punks
There's a system that will play master system but it is from atgames! the legend's flashback (50 games version) after I installed a custom firmware I downloaded from gbatemp it plays Sega master system games fine along with Genesis, game gear, Nes, SNES, neo geo, and mame 2000
I am a little annoyed after buying the previous Retro-Cade, that they came out with a newer version in the same year. I feel like I got cheated somewhat. As they improved things that they could have inputted on the 1.0 version. I think it is cool that it runs better on the 1.1. But because of this I would probably think about a Rasberry Pi setup. And of course playing my modded NES and SNES classics. I kind of feel I got slapped in the face for buying and supporting their products. Just a little rant.

He’s right, it really is that easy. Here’s a suggestion though; don’t try to stuff thousands of ROMs on one big SD card. It will take forever to load and you’ll have a hard time finding what you want. Separate by system and use different cards for each one.
OK, so you do have to unzip before moving a ROM on to the SD card??? I'm trying to moved zipped files onto the SD card from an android device.... Is that what I'm doing wrong?
But until they make a folder system to separate games without 10 sad cards, just not worth it. This is a huge oversight and a simple ui fix and they haven’t done it

Whenever I try to save Turbografx-16 games on the Super Retrocade Version 1.1, it restarts the game. The same button combination, pressing start and select, is the reset command on the Turbografx-16. Is there anyway to save games on the Super Retrocade with different buttons that don't trigger a reset?
I'm curious if the 1.1 version will load and play MAME vector graphics games like Asteroids and Battle Station, Star Wars, etc. because the original version won't. A lot of the classic Williams games (Food Fight, Joust, Robotron, etc) won't load and play either on the original version. If they've addressed those issues then I would consider picking up the new 1.1 console. Thanks for all the help and the reviews my friend!

Im an OG retrocade owner. Not sure Bonk, Snatcher, and Rondo are worth upgrading. I already found a knockoff ps3 controller that works. I was never able to get Ninja Baseball Batman or MvC2 to work on mine. Anyone have luck with those?
the link for compatible controllers seems to go nowhere. is there still a list somewhere? I'm more interested in adapting existing controllers if that's possible than buying another x-arcade clone, but if that's what people are doing, so be it
Anyone know if Version 1.1 will play vector graphics games? That's the one problem I have with the original Super Retro-cade, it won't play any vector graphics games. If the new version adds that capability then I'll most definitely be interested. Thanks for another great review. I have had the 1.1 version for a while now. I felt it was a bargain and I paid $50 for it like new on eBay. Everyone states it doesn’t have Chopper Command and they are correct. But it also doesn’t have Karate Champ VS. Ok it might get completely ignored but this was a revolutionary game during its time. Yeah I know fighting games of the 80’s are nothing compared to what they would become with Street Fighter II and going forward. Still this game is an important piece of history. Don’t know why they removed this one.
I have a question for anybody in the know. Is a lcd tv with a response time of 29ms good? I was under the impression that 8ms to 16ms was standard And 5ms and under was best?

Awesome video as usual Ron. I bought form Amazon 3 months ago and still got the 1.0 version so I feel a bit scammed by Retro-Bit. Overall I'm still not disappointed the Super Retro Cade is great for anyone who wants to pickup a controller and play with 0 messing around with settings. It's also kid friendly where all the settings that could break the system are hidden on the backend.
Unfortunately I couldn't return mine I got mine as a present but I did some research and thanks to a custom firmware from gbatemp now I'm able to play Nes, SNES, Sg1000, Master system, Genesis, sega cd, gamegear, neogeo and mame 2000 on my Legend's flashback and honestly the games work pretty good (with the custom firmware)!
Hello, great video. Probably the best of the retrocade vids. I'm just now getting into adding games to my retrocade. I see you add games unzipped. Does it matter when adding? I've heard arcade needs to be zipped and other consoles can be unzipped, PLEASE HELP!
Dumb question, can it play Commodore 64 roms? Also can anyone recommend a good arcade stick as well, I just don’t want to shell out a hundred dollars for one just to find out it’s not compatible, thank you.
This version has been out for a little while, it came out quietly and replaced the first version. Most places selling them should have the V1.1... but I am sure there are still v1's out there... it is tricky without the seller noting which version it is. Id try to return if its not been too long.
hopefully it's okay to ask here. Can anybody tell me will This play ROMs of TurboGrafx CD games and will it play PC engine? You got a remember I'm one of those very few people that was part of the TurboGrafx 16 generation in Canada and there's a lot of games I never got my hands on that are just stupid expensive now. Second problem was a lot of games you could save your progress, which is why I've never completed them as a kid! And then there's the matter of original hardware aging. I literally bought a brand-new Turbo duo when it first came out and a used original CD system prior to that. At one point, I picked up a Japanese PC engine ridiculously cheap. Where somebody had it listed as nonworking and it turned out to simply be a matter of geting a modern device that plugs on the back and gives you RCA output and then it worked just fine. The original video output on it is just about shot I got the malted unit for less than half what they normally go for because somebody and listed wrong. At any rate, I'm assuming this gives you games save option. That way I can finally play and complete Vallas for Sega Genesis as an example and I believe they made Vallas 4 , which was only released in English for the super Nintendo. I wish they would have done in English version 4 TurboGrafx 16. I love my original systems but I don't really want to tax the CD players and games. If I can help it. I literally had a glitch copy brand-new of Addams family for the TurboGrafx 16 it would periodically frees up then crash while you were playing it and it was one of those games you could save your progress. Likewise my copy of it came from the desert had several issues one of which literally prevents you from cleaning the game. So if anybody can tell me if this plays the CD games that have been converted to run on emulator systems that would be great. I'm assuming it plays a majority of arcade ROMs also. I frankly don't have the skilled put one of those raspberry pie units together and don't know anybody that sells them prebuilt that they're designed for a idiot like me to plug-and-play. Didn't know they had an updated version of this little unit. Been meaning to get one for a long time.
Peter Parker if you have the 1.1 version yes you can play super Grafix turbo 16 and PC engine. He has a link where you can downloaded 9500 games that play on the SRC 1.1. You can also play Sega cd. His rom dump has the above listed plus arcade Atari’s Nes Snes master system Genesis game gear Gameboy and color and advance.
Peter Parker you can ask Ron where to find it but it’s in the Facebook group. Just post in the group for the fastest way to download all the roms, but I think it’s about 2/3 hundred PC engine turbo 16 and super Grafix games. So you’ll be happy
Here is a wild idea! Let's try to put one of these bad boys into a Arcade1up SF cabinet. HDMI out, tie in the sound using the AV ports on back and maybe a sd card extender so that you can access the card without opening the cab. Sounds like a challenge!
I figured out a way by renaming the game files with abbreviations for different consoles. Like NES, SNES, GEN, GAM, GBA, GBC etc.... Well I think you get the idea. lol Anyway by doing that the consoles were alphabetical including the games as well. It was neat and organized.
Still questioning why there are 3 versions of magical drop, just nitpicking though. Hows GBA emulation this time? That was one thing that made the previous console fall on its face
almightycinder I know what they are and what system they came from, and I doubt anyone buying this is just orgasming out because three versions of this game are included. So back to my original statement.
I recently was tempted to pick up a Retro Freak after hearing many, many comments how lag wasn't noticeable...oh boy. Well, against all common sense I took the bait and decided to try for myself...lag, lots of it. Very curious how this compares.
@@jenningsmills5398 first, my TV measures at 29ms of lag, which is actually very good for an LCD TV. Second, no emulator I'm aware of runs lag free. I have tried both a NES/SNES Classic and Raspberry Pi 3 running via the same TV. Yes, still some lag but much less than the Retro Freak. I have my TV set to Game Mode. Sorry, but the issue is not with my TV.
Robert Higgins 29ms is horrible! especially at 60hz Anything more than 16ms is really going to be noticeable newer monitors are at like 5-8ms. any of these emulator boxes are gonna feel lagged at 29ms I went on a long lag quest after realizing my expensive Samsung was the culprit. I thought it was the console. You can get the hdmi converter for $5 on ebay & a used crt vga monitor for free or another $5 The retro freak on vga crt is almost a supernatural experience.
@@jenningsmills5398 it's not a monitor. It's an LCD TV which 29ms is I believe between 1-2 frames of lag, so, pretty serviceable. Like I say, I run other devices via said display which a lot of them feel responsive. For example, my premium setup is running my Super Famicom via HD Retrovisions component cables and lag - while some will exist - I don't feel it whatsoever. It's not my display, trust me.
My brother has one and I did not notice any lag. Sometimes graphic intense games get some slow downs. Just depends on the game your playing. Overall I think its a bargain for what it does.
If you already have a pie then this would be a tad redundant, unless this is just something to collect. This is more for someone who doesn’t want to set a pie up and just drag/drop roms
I have the nes and snes classic, raspberry Pi 3, and the old version of the super retro cade, this is still worth getting even if you own any of those I just mentioned
To be honest, I don't know why anyone would want to hack this as it's emulation is all over the place. Some games are genuinely unplayable because of it so its probably going to be the same for SD card games. Some games do play fine which I suppose is something.
*Update!* Worth noting also is how bad vertical shmups are to play with their cramped screen ratio and how whenever a save state is made it shows a message at the baseline of the screen that blocks out the view of your ship and end up losing a life because you can no longer see your ship to dodge enemy fire therefore needing to go into a cycle of reloading the last save state over and over to try different blind moves to get out of that trap you're in exasperating the already dodgy emulation as it often loads a game back up running faster or slower. The same button used to confirm the save state also triggers your special weapon in those games as well. It's a ludicrously designed operating system and no one is talking about this blatant oversight. The controller's weren't great either and have become progressively more noisy over the space of a month. They have no rapid fire mode either that makes playing shmups a chore.

Are the games in non-smoothing mode scaled by integer? So that way there's no shimmering because of uneven line heights?
Shouldn't video smoothing be "off" by default? Why would they do that?

Overall I'm still not disappointed the Super Retro Cade is great for anyone who wants to pickup a controller and play with 0 messing around with settings. It's also kid friendly where all the settings that could break the system are hidden on the backend.

I picked up a Legends Flashback on clearance for $25 at Walmart. I returned that piece of crap.
Unfortunately I couldn't return mine I got mine as a present but I did some research and thanks to a custom firmware from gbatemp now I'm able to play Nes, SNES, Sg1000, Master system, Genesis, sega cd, gamegear, neogeo and mame 2000 on my Legend's flashback and honestly the games work pretty good (with the custom firmware)!
Add compatibility for STV games and i'm sold :)
Hello, great video. Probably the best of the retrocade vids. I'm just now getting into adding games to my retrocade. I see you add games unzipped. Does it matter when adding? I've heard arcade needs to be zipped and other consoles can be unzipped, PLEASE HELP!

This version has been out for a little while, it came out quietly and replaced the first version. Most places selling them should have the V1.1... but I am sure there are still v1's out there... it is tricky without the seller noting which version it is. Id try to return if its not been too long.

hopefully it's okay to ask here. Can anybody tell me will This play ROMs of TurboGrafx CD games and will it play PC engine? You got a remember I'm one of those very few people that was part of the TurboGrafx 16 generation in Canada and there's a lot of games I never got my hands on that are just stupid expensive now. Second problem was a lot of games you could save your progress, which is why I've never completed them as a kid! And then there's the matter of original hardware aging. I literally bought a brand-new Turbo duo when it first came out and a used original CD system prior to that. At one point, I picked up a Japanese PC engine ridiculously cheap. Where somebody had it listed as nonworking and it turned out to simply be a matter of geting a modern device that plugs on the back and gives you RCA output and then it worked just fine. The original video output on it is just about shot I got the malted unit for less than half what they normally go for because somebody and listed wrong. At any rate, I'm assuming this gives you games save option. That way I can finally play and complete Vallas for Sega Genesis as an example and I believe they made Vallas 4 , which was only released in English for the super Nintendo. I wish they would have done in English version 4 TurboGrafx 16. I love my original systems but I don't really want to tax the CD players and games. If I can help it. I literally had a glitch copy brand-new of Addams family for the TurboGrafx 16 it would periodically frees up then crash while you were playing it and it was one of those games you could save your progress. Likewise my copy of it came from the desert had several issues one of which literally prevents you from cleaning the game. So if anybody can tell me if this plays the CD games that have been converted to run on emulator systems that would be great. I'm assuming it plays a majority of arcade ROMs also. I frankly don't have the skilled put one of those raspberry pie units together and don't know anybody that sells them prebuilt that they're designed for a idiot like me to plug-and-play. Didn't know they had an updated version of this little unit. Been meaning to get one for a long time.
Peter Parker if you have the 1.1 version yes you can play super Grafix turbo 16 and PC engine. He has a link where you can downloaded 9500 games that play on the SRC 1.1. You can also play Sega cd. His rom dump has the above listed plus arcade Atari’s Nes Snes master system Genesis game gear Gameboy and color and advance.
Peter Parker you can ask Ron where to find it but it’s in the Facebook group. Just post in the group for the fastest way to download all the roms, but I think it’s about 2/3 hundred PC engine turbo 16 and super Grafix games. So you’ll be happy

Here is a wild idea! Let's try to put one of these bad boys into a Arcade1up SF cabinet. HDMI out, tie in the sound using the AV ports on back and maybe a sd card extender so that you can access the card without opening the cab. Sounds like a challenge!

Is it now possible to sort games by systems? Can you put all the games on a single SD card now?
I figured out a way by renaming the game files with abbreviations for different consoles. Like NES, SNES, GEN, GAM, GBA, GBC etc.... Well I think you get the idea. lol Anyway by doing that the consoles were alphabetical including the games as well. It was neat and organized.
This is just an android box running a game frontend app.

I recently was tempted to pick up a Retro Freak after hearing many, many comments how lag wasn't noticeable...oh boy. Well, against all common sense I took the bait and decided to try for myself...lag, lots of it. Very curious how this compares.

@@jenningsmills5398 first, my TV measures at 29ms of lag, which is actually very good for an LCD TV. Second, no emulator I'm aware of runs lag free. I have tried both a NES/SNES Classic and Raspberry Pi 3 running via the same TV. Yes, still some lag but much less than the Retro Freak. I have my TV set to Game Mode. Sorry, but the issue is not with my TV.

Anything more than 16ms is really going to be noticeable
newer monitors are at like 5-8ms. any of these emulator boxes are gonna feel lagged at 29ms
I went on a long lag quest after realizing my expensive Samsung was the culprit. I thought it was the console.
You can get the hdmi converter for $5 on ebay & a used crt vga monitor for free or another $5
The retro freak on vga crt is almost a supernatural experience.
@@jenningsmills5398 it's not a monitor. It's an LCD TV which 29ms is I believe between 1-2 frames of lag, so, pretty serviceable. Like I say, I run other devices via said display which a lot of them feel responsive. For example, my premium setup is running my Super Famicom via HD Retrovisions component cables and lag - while some will exist - I don't feel it whatsoever. It's not my display, trust me.

My brother has one and I did not notice any lag. Sometimes graphic intense games get some slow downs. Just depends on the game your playing. Overall I think its a bargain for what it does.

To be honest, I don't know why anyone would want to hack this as it's emulation is all over the place.
Some games are genuinely unplayable because of it so its probably going to be the same for SD card games.
Some games do play fine which I suppose is something.
*Update!* Worth noting also is how bad vertical shmups are to play with their cramped screen ratio and how whenever a save state is made it shows a message at the baseline of the screen that blocks out the view of your ship and end up losing a life because you can no longer see your ship to dodge enemy fire therefore needing to go into a cycle of reloading the last save state over and over to try different blind moves to get out of that trap you're in exasperating the already dodgy emulation as it often loads a game back up running faster or slower.
The same button used to confirm the save state also triggers your special weapon in those games as well. It's a ludicrously designed operating system and no one is talking about this blatant oversight.
The controller's weren't great either and have become progressively more noisy over the space of a month. They have no rapid fire mode either that makes playing shmups a chore.
