I think Joe was never meant to be a likeable character but rather a confusing one.
One moment he kills Benji, the other he gets Paco some books and gives that kid a feeling of safety. That has many people confused and has them question how they feel towards Joe.
He has a way of getting into your head with his reasoning and although I hate him, a part of me is always kind of rooting for him. Not like "wohoooo yes Joe, kill her!" but more like "Come on Joe, you can do better than that! Don't do it!"

WildStxrm well I think he was so compassionate towards Paco because he likely grew up with shitty absent parents as well. And it would explain him spazzing on Claudia for not knowing where Paco was when she was hospitalized. He probably sees a a lot of himself in Paco. It’s still endearing that he’s so caring towards him but a lot of it is out of self involved reasons
I think this show is relatable in the sense that many of us know at least one person who confuses us in a way similar to the way Joe confuses us. Whether it be in a romantic, platonic, or familial relationship, there’s always that one person who will do something downright evil one minute and do something sweet and endearing the next. It’s really a manipulative tactic used to keep people in a relationship. And when people do those things it’s like even though they do things that are completely awful, you can’t help but think about the good things that they have done as well.

I’m so glad that Penn isn’t glorifying his character and that he’s actually telling it like it is. I think it’s important for young viewers who look at him and think ”oh he’s cute that means everything he does is justified” to actually hear it from the actor himself that this is NOT a love story, and being too emotionally attached to the person you care about the most is never a good thing.

Love Penn, he is such a responsible actor, he is logical and makes sure the young fans don’t get mixed feelings and ideas.
When Beck dies, it makes me SNAP. I thought because how much he loved her, he wouldn’t of done that. I thought he would commit suicide or go to jail or even run away. The ending was a little disappointing for me.

underated17 She cheated (a few times if you count the guys she was sleeping with when her and Joe first started seeing each other), wasn’t nice about her friends etc. There were different ways she was unlikeable but that just made her human. I’m glad they didn’t portray her as a saint because that’d be unrealistic and there’d be no moral dilemma.

Well, she was a stalker and a manipulator who would possibly have killed Joe if he didn't kill her first. So Joe and her are not much different really, there is nothing to love (besides the first glance good looks)
I actually loved Peach, but in the way that you're suppose to love a character you hate. Like she was great at what she was suppose to be. her dynamic with Joe was interesting and their ending conversation was great cuz they were so honest.

I really liked Joe up until the moment he got caught and was forced to kidnap Beck. I mean the therapist established that Joe has a split personality. There's kind and friendly Joe who Beck fell in love with and then there's Rejected and abandoned Joe who is so afraid of being abandoned again he will go to any lengths to stop it. Beck's death was tragic and I haven't read the books but think how cool it would be if Joe were being haunted by the ghost of Beck. I mean at the end of season 1 I thought that Candice might also just have been in his imagination and if that's the case why not let them both haunt him

It annoys me that he gets so obsessed into ‘loving’ her and kinda doesn’t hesitate to kill her, I get he didn’t have a choice after everything that happened but it’s scary that he could kill anyone even the ones he loved and made me question if he actually loved her, but really joe was self obsessed and loved himself.
I loved the series it was really entertaining and made the viewers aware of the dangers of some people and social media.

Elizabeth and Penn, excellent actors for one of the best series without a doubt. In addition to the recognition of all the actors involved! Everything that they generate and how they are dislodging the logic in the viewer is applaudable.

Joe only kills bad people. Every single person he kills in the book (and probably in the TV series) are as sick as him. (but in a different way)

Beck should have seen the red flags in the beginning. He mentions a few things she never told him, also all of the coincidences Peach called him out on. Red flags everywherrrre.

Maybe the reason why we like joe is because we have the hope that eventually he will change, for love... Since the beggining you think joe is good, no he's not, no no at the end of the day he is a good guy who have suffered in the past (we kind of justify him), then you change idea, again. He's confusing but... we still wish it will be an happy ending with beck... like he will change for her...His character does very bad things but the director doesnt want us to hate him. And besides, with such an actor interpretating the role we can t help but like the character! I mean, he is so good, his expressions, his voice... he is very handsome and everything makes you want to give another chance to this character. I know it could sound nonsense but to me it makes sense!
