I was blown away by his acting. He reminded me of a modern day norman bates
I think more of dexter. Norman bates was highly delusional, and aggressive. Dexter had a reason and a morality, always questioning his motives and results. Dexter as like joe also, show no emotion and no remorse, although joe knows how to feel love or what he thinks is love. Joe is highly disturbed because he is a sociopath who doesn't realize it, he just foes bad things because he feels he is pushed to do those things instead of letting things go. Interesting monster.

@@clarar362 now that I think about it. Joe never really cared for no one. He loves beauty and passion, but even when he cried and confronted beck about her affair with her therapist he quickly reconsidered and reconciled once beck told him that she loves joe. To me at that moment was kind of odd, but now I get. Like peach joe knows how to manipulate, and I bet calculates things beforehand. Now I really feel bad for beck, to be murdered by who she thought was her true love. Beck fucked up all the time, being used, from man to man, from father with another family, from peach and her experiments, beck was a mess, but she meant good. In the end beck did not know how to handle a monster like joe, and I don't blame her. Imagine yourself living with a person who has killed people around that you loved knowing well that he can do that to you when he feels betrayed. Scary thought.

Just finished the show, it's really weird how even though I knew Joe was wrong and sick I still didn't want him to get caught, maybe it's because he was narrating, thus we get drowned into his twisted logic and we believe it somehow, because he's constantly reasuring his love for her.
Also, I have to say, I think Beck was kinda simple, like, definitely not the most amazing character I've ever seen.

Penn and Shay are clearly annoyed with the fact that their new show/roles are being connected/ compared to PLL and GG. I mean, yeah there is are (lonely boy), stalkers and there is social media involved, but come on, YOU is completely different. It's like comparing Narcos to Breaking Bad only because there are drugs involved in both series....
Maureen Kitty To be fair, there’s murder and stalking in all 3 shows so of course people are going to make comparisons. PLL and GG are the roles they are known for. They should’ve known people would compare the two, to You. You is very different, yes, but there are also similarities. PLL is one of my all time favorite shows and this felt like the grown up version, what PLL could’ve been if it had been on a different network. To say they are “only” being compared because there’s a stalker isn’t really fair tbh. Take two main characters from two teen favorite shows and put them in a new show with the same kind of vibes and there’s obviously going to be similarities and comparisons.

You does not compare to either shows at all.
Well no, it's not just the stalking it's them. It's that we haven't really seen Shay and Penn in a series since PPL and GG, and both shows have very committed fans and want to imagine a continuation of those worlds, and this particular project has certain darker similarities with both PPL and GG so the comparisons are almost unavoidable just by the virtue of the leads and the narrative.
I know there is a reason why the FANs connected Dan and Shay to pll and gg, but then being asked about their past project in interview by journalist.... it’s normal to get annoyed

I think what sets him apart from most "stalkers we meet" is that at one point he really was ok with just letting her go. At that point he wasn't a stalker, he was just a man who realized his girlfriend didn't love him anymore. Then SHE seduced him and brought out the worst in him.

Ariana Suarez I’ve been wanting to read the book but im struggling to find the time. I can imagine the book being like that as in the show because he was narrating it was like easier to still feel sorry for an obvious psycho.
He was still likable at the end though. He really was the best thing that ever happened to her (BASED ON HER CAREER AS AN AUTHOR). Beck to me, maybe there is a chance to come back, but Peach ... She was shot in the head, the chances are minimal. I think honestly, Beck may have survived that hanging and will be back last season to haunt him. I have a crazy theory that Joe is telling the story from this point of view because he is going to be executed to death and is reflecting on his last breath, the choices that made him stop there.
Never will the series end with Joe getting away with his crimes.

This interviewer was insightful af and just super professional and prepared. I hate when interviewers have clearly done no research or work ahead of time and it’s just like, use your time with these actors, writers directors etc wisely! He’s great at his job kudos!

I love how Penn is from Gossip Girl, Shay is from PLL and then even Elizabeth is from Dead of Summer. These were the perfect actors for these roles.
So glad this show was pickup by Netflix because the acting and story line was incredible.
It was so hard to watch on Lifetime. I had to search the internet for the first few episodes. Eventually I had to just wait until they came out on Netflix. Great show. Season two was amazing.
This show had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. It had me rooting for characters and then 10 seconds later hating them, back and forth lol it's so unpredictable and so so good.
Just stayed up all night reading the book and went online to see what others were saying about it, and discovered this! I wish I had thought of Penn while reading, because I suspect he will be amazing in the role.
I wish the interviewer paid more attention to the author, she's the actual mastermind of all this yet he's more interested in how actors play their role. What a waste of a chance.

The only resemblnce with Dexter is the fact we're in a story narrated by a sociopath. Other than that sorry to say but Dexter is totally somethign different, and the guy's got a decent IQ, unlike Joe's.
I thought the same. Although there's a little difference because Dexter had a code to kill. Joe seems more like a sociopath who doesn't draw a line when it comes to act.
@@002nl I don't think so. That code was broken a few times and both characters will break their own moral compass should they be pushed to it. Joe does it when he feels like there's no other option or it is risking those he loves. Dexter is very much similar, especially with LaGuerta and Doakes, who he knew were good people, but would be risks to himself and those he loved.
