- All the best firearms history channels streaming to all major devices:
weaponsandwar.tv
I created History of Weapons and War as a way to not just ensure a place to host and view historical and educational firearms content, but more importantly as a way to support the whole community of people who create this type of content. I have been fortunate that Forgotten Weapons has become large and successful, but many of the other channels in this space are far smaller. As TH-cam continues to restrict monetization and content in general, it is very difficult for those channels to grow to a point of self-sufficiency. History of Weapons and War is my attempt to create a platform that not just hosts this material, but can give creators the option to make their channels full-time self-sustaining operation, and to help raise the next generation of new creators - something that you simply can't do on TH-cam the way you used to be able to.
If you are passionate about firearms history, development, and education, I hope you will consider subscribing!
It’s not just firearms content. It’s everyone. I watch all sorts of content and every creator has had issues with TH-cam arbitrarily interpreting rules. If you’re not a big influencer they just don’t care.
Shadiversity also has long stories about blocked content, demonetization and disabled recommendations. Some videos are not even findable if you explicitly search for them by author or title.
SSSniperwolf is a good example of just how two faced TH-cam is.
but fake animal rescue, fake mr beast ads on youtube, porn and fetish mobile game ads are all allowed, bots, etc
@@jaimdiojtarive also seen the fake MrBeast ads, saying i will get $1000. I wonder how many people fell for that scam. How do those ads get through??
@@RequiemJrdon’t forget QuantumTV too. The guy called another TH-camr’s family to threaten them, and the man he was threatening got his entire channel demonetized for talking about it
Funny how TH-cam doesn't age restrict people doing stupid life endangering stunts
Pretty incredible what’s allowed and what isn’t….. th-cam.com/video/gC81OuhdNtE/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared
or pranks
Or videos of girls wearing The Emperor's New Clothes.
It probably does. You are just never going to see the blocked content. Only the videos that the so called "AI"-filter missed.
Well they do. Storror, a huge parkour channel, has been battling age restriction and demonetization for years
TH-cam is fine with making excuses for content "creator" who doxxes a critic, so you can understand why they'd want to avoid explicitly stating what is acceptable and what isn't.
Their promises that AI could review content were bullsh*t 🤨
pretty hard not to bring that up eh? weird sense of priorities; he's not teaching you how to turn guns automatic as well...
Yeah I think we're still a little ways off from that kind of AI.
Titty streamers can do what they want and bring about the threat of real harm to others and they get a slap on the wrist. People uploading educational content completely within the TH-cam rules and guidelines will have their stuff taken down and be removed from the platform overnight.
Great platform.
No I can’t understand why.
Arbitrary and whimsical rules is what destroys societies and their sub-cultures.
Current AIs only filter stuff and search very specific things set by administrator and is not very reliable!
In the old days once a channel got to a certain size, they were actually assigned a rep at YT to handle any issues. I can't remember when that went away, probably shortly after it was bought. YT is now an ad delivery service. The content is what drives the eyeballs. And YT doesn't even have to produce the content, just run the servers. And if you're lucky, they just might let you have a little bit of the action. But maybe not.
Yup
I mean, with the growth of the platform and the amount large creators popping up exponentially over the last decade and a half, that probably just wasn't feasible to do anymore. TH-cam sucks don't get me wrong, but that seems more like a manpower issue.
@@username1660 when they have no manpower for Ian McCollum to able even to reach em once in a while on phone, then and there you just know that this is just malice and contempt for the makers and for the viewers aswell.
It's worse than that. YT wants free content from it's creators to make that much more profit on adsense.
@@makingastardestroyer306640,000 channels have over 1 million subscribers. That'd be an extraordinary undertaking to devote manpower to every channel, and with a company as big as youtube having a manually operated mod system would just open the system to very easy abuse. It wouldn't take a lot of knowledge or money to create a bot that auto reports channels. You could set one up in python pretty easily with a vpn to prevent IP tracking
TH-cam hates history.
They even went after the channel The Great War a couple times for talking about history.
It's concerning when any platform does that. Erasing history because it's "currently controversial" is foolish because if we don't learn from it we might repeat it.
TH-cam, and by TH-cam I mean Google, has a bias against real history because real history warns you against shady actions, they want you to remain ignorant, most especially if what they're doing.
And if they're reading this, eat shit.
*Leftists* hate history. History challenges their warped world view and *their* vision for the future. Leftists want us all to be under-educated and enslaved to their will. That's why they hate guns and that's why they hate history.
The problem is, it's not $10/month for eight channels. It's $10/month for the one firearms channel I'm interested in, plus more for the medieval arms channel I like, plus more just for Legal Eagle on his multi-channel platform, plus plus plus... If all of the non-YT independents moved to the *same* subscription channel it might be affordable, but as it is, it's completely impossible. I just have to hope that YT keeps letting people like you post.
That's half a meal at Wendy's, youll be fine

Legal Eagle... cringe.
You're not the only one Ian, TH-cam is seemingly going out of its way to destroy itself at the moment.
Nice avatar, dude!
yeah them trying to ban blocker is going to end well.

The ads that YT runs are absolutely soul sucking.
Brave browser works to curtail ads
I hope they succeed. TH-cam has got to go. Maybe the increased traffic to their competitors will give them a chance to really compete on a more fair basis.
Genuinely one of the most reasonable, thoughtful, and well spoken content creators I follow, certainly going to support HWW now. FW has given me hundreds and hundreds of hours of content over the years. Beyond that, Ian is doing archival work that is second to none in terms of scope and accessibility. I understand why so many are turned off by subscriptions, but if you wanna complain about YT management and the unending intrusion of advertisers in the modern world, then you need to be willing to put your money where you mouth is and support the people who are actually doing the work towards changing things.
I just wish everyone could afford to, financially. 😢
Ian is a P0S for not putting ALL his videos on TH-cam. This crap as made me lose all respect for the FUDD.
Well put & well said . Ian has been clear from the start that regardless of His or his Viewers opinions , YT will do as they (their shareholders & advertisers ) wish . Not the people who create the content or consume that production YT relies upon to attract advertisers . Without the content providers & the viewers YT would be a total failure.
@@robertsears8323 If he gets his channel deleted because of youtubes byzantine and ever changing rules regarding firearms content then you wont have ANY of his videos to watch. I fully support him seeking other means to archive his content.
@@robertsears8323
Pay attention!
He had / has all of his content on YT, BUT the older content is "hidden" by YT's algorithm.
The other channels on the platform are Bloke on the Range, Royal Armouries, 9 Hole Reviews, Cap & Ball, Legacy Collectables, the Armourer's Bench, British Muzzleloaders. So some really great content all round!
Absolutely great library there. I am surprised C&Rsenal weren’t on the list. If they end up joining, I’m all in.
I was already following Ian, Bloke (and Chap) and British Muzzleloaders but could not afford to support them all - however, by subscribing to WAW I am supporting them all in an affordable manner and have ‘discovered’ the joys of Cap and Ball, 9-Hole Reviews, Royal Armouries etc.
The platform is not perfect, but I have access to so much good content in one place.
So basically the entire "cartel" of the actually serious firearms channels and exactly none of the "dudebro/jackass/nutcase/hostile undertone" channels that got youtube's knickers in a bunch to begin with.....
And Hickok 45😊
I have a few thoughts on this. Firstly, as a TH-camr myself (albeit it on a much smaller scale and on a different subject), I'm very grateful for these insights into the workings of TH-cam and I see the restrictions on firearms channels being applied to other subjects. I've had videos "ad limited" (ie killed off) for "promoting harmful practices" because I made a miniature smoke machine that contained a vape coil, which apparently means I'm promoting smoking... The sickening part is that I've asked my subscribers and they tell me they're still being served ads on these videos, but I get pretty much zero revenue from it - TH-cam is basically just keeping all the money. I've had a copyright strike for using music that the musician themselves gave me written permission to use, which took me months to get removed because, as Ian says, there's just no-one to talk to, there's no escalation path, there's simply *nothing* you can do about it.
Additionally, as Ian says, TH-cam move the goalposts all the time. I have nearly double the subscribers I had a year ago and way more views, but the revenue has dropped by nearly three quarters, for no apparent reason. I've spoken to other TH-camrs who have had the same thing happen to them with absolutely no explanation and, as above there's simply no-one to talk to. What really grates my gears is that I continually get emails from TH-cam telling me how open and transparent they are, of course, from an email address you can't reply to.
I could go on for hours but, quite frankly, this is just making me angry all over again, so I'm going to have a cup of tea and a lie down. I'll leave you with this though - the whole "like, comment, subscribe" thing you always hear from TH-camrs? It genuinely does help tremendously, so please do it if it's a channel you like.
I hope you enjoyed your lie down. Subscribed to you just out of principle, but also I liked the look of your videos too.
Why thank you, much appreciated 🙂@@Simon_Nonymous
TH-cam is striking channels for even mentioning competitors and sending people over now. They must be getting worried about a sizable chunk of their audience moving. Obviously not like 50% but enough for them to start clamping down.
So why can I go into the history of this and other firearm channels and watch the history of then pitching the 12 or 13 “freedom based youtube alternatives” that have failed in the past decade?
Competitors as YT competitors, or Chanel competitors?
@@brunswicksquaremusic5905
Point being???
Why give free advertising to competition? I don’t blame them.
@@TheCrusher72 Because it's not against their ToS to tell people they have options.
Not yet, at least.
TH-cam always in a constant war with their creators 😞
Ians channel is genuinely one of the best historical resources there is when it comes to firearms. It’s really a shame TH-cam has such a backhanded approach to monetization. It’s especially weird how the algorithm keeps pushing the same dozen or so videos of his even though I’ve seen them already given there are still dozens I’ve never watched.
Here in the UK it is difficult (though not impossible) to get a firearm legally so I enjoy seeing the shooting of "real" firearms. I have shot a few big guns on military ranges, great fun, and so it should be. Thank you for this channel for the mechanical descriptions too. The most lethal weapon in the world is the motor car.
The motor car indeed. If only the government could create a malaria gun or some other viral weapon then they'd have made actual guns obsolete since those are the greatest Killers in human history by an order of magnitude.
Thankfully no one would ever do that.
Truly a terrifying thought if someone ever tried
Same here in Brazil, I do have a fascination that I cannot satisfy and this is the only real way I can enjoy this hobby
After reading so many similar comments, it leaves me thinking that whatever other problems life here brings me, I'm still very thankful that I can still have the things I love, and do what I love doing the most.
Shhhhh. Don't upset the youtube people. They are already weirdly restricting automotive content as well. Not as bad as the firearms stuff gets it, but still. They let their censors have pretty broad authority on restriction of content and they appear to have a particular axe to grind against icky loud mechanical dirty things. It all seems to upset their tender extremely sheltered sensibilities.
What is icky loud mechanical dirty things 🤔
TH-cam is an absolute shit-show and what we are witnessing now is the start of a mass exodus from the platform. It will be interesting to see who will pick up the slack and where viewers and creators alike will migrate!
The "vegetables" of video content is exactly what I'm looking for. TH-cam makes it very inconveient or outright impossible to access informative content.
Something I never thought Gun Jesus would say: "side hustle"
TH-cam doesn't like firearms videos but they can shove Snake Oil Salesmen ads down our throats.
Don't forget TH-cam said they don't tell you the exact rules because people would try to find 'loopholes' in those rules.
Tbf exploiting loopholes and getting mad when they’re closed is the American gun owner’s favorite pass-time.
@@DefaultProphet You mean, playing by the rules??

Funny, as they use all the loopholes for tax purposes.

I honestly appreciate your transparency about the subscription price. I am not directly involved with firearms enough to warrant the subscription for me right now, but if you do build it into something that facilitates my interests I will.
While i understand the BS with YT, this is also quite a bit anoying to those that mostly watch you here because they don´t want to have a dozen different media plattforms to follow around just 2-3 channels. SO yeah, you can tick me in the "resentment over this not posted here vid box" i guess.
Oh and BTW, google doesn´t even show the other plattforms having the vid on it.
Last but not least, pay walling it is ... well.
You do what you need to do but on this particular one, not cool, really really not cool.
Very well said, and not a single rant about "Oligarchy" lol. YT has started enforcing their "no ad blockers" policy and are just making the experience incrementally worse every day it seems.
Hey, long term watcher here. The only issue I have with this is as a college student, I really don't have the money to pay for a subscription. I really enjoy watching your vids every morning, but I'm not sure if I'm gonna be able to in the future. I understand why you're doing this, but it's just kinda painful.
I didn't realise it but you're right, the library/Encyclopedia is now difficult to get at. I didn't realise it till you mentioned it but you're right, the older videos are so much harder to access now.
$10 a month is way too much when I'm only interested in 1 channel. I hate that everything is going subscription based. One subscription is one thing, but when there are 8 different services vying for my subscription, it's too much.
Its the same price as a stan subscription.. which I already find hard to justify, let alone for just one channel I want
I'm surprised by the absense of InRangeTV on this new project. You used to be a regular there, but it seems like around the time of WWSD2020 that changed. What happened?
I handed over my 50% share of the channel to Karl in late 2019 to focus on Forgotten Weapons. Unfortunately, InRange has since become much less about firearms history and much more about politics since then. It really isn't a fit for this project today.
Ian is being very polite here. Karl went off the deep end, he's a radical leftist with some fairly scary ideas. He's attacked Ian and called him some pretty vile things too.
I’m honestly at the point where I’m going back to ripping codecs off of TH-cam and dropping Premium because they’re driving away all the creators I payed to watch.
I really appreciate the clarification of your purpose for the new streaming service, that makes a lot more sense now, I knew that channels like yours had some pretty serious issues with TH-cam censorship but this is one of the more concise explanations I've seen. Keep up with the excellent content!

This isn’t a firearms channel…it’s a history channel.
Channels like C&Rsenal put out an incredible amount of historical information. Not to detract from the rest but this is a worthy endeavor for sure.
Sir, always appreciate your candor and integrity. Your stuff is awesome. Keep fighting the good fight
TH-cam has gone so far downhill. Ive migrated a lot of my favorite channels to Rumble but the majority of my favorite channels like you are only on TH-cam. Unfortunately right now i cant afford the money for a subscription to your new platform but when i can i will absolutely be subscribing, ive been following you for at least the last 7 years and have learned so much and at the same time been thoroughly entertained. Thank you for all the awesome content and knowledge you have given us all over the years Ian.
I will NEVER pay a penny to watch a video.
I happily lived many decades without videos and I have no problem doing it again.
Each person must do what they must do.
RIP 3DPrintGeneral... they deleted his ENTIRE channel without giving him a reason.
Just one more channel that figured out they've been "workin for the man".
Sounds great. Please sign Paul Harrell up. If anyone deserves it, it’s him. Thank you for sharing and I wish you and everyone else participating in sharing firearms safety and history the best of luck.
The only time I've seen or heard of TH-cam quickly and accurately respond to its failures to follow its own guidelines is when people have actually employed lawyers to serve warnings of legal proceedings. So you have to get to the "cease-and-desist" (or legal equivalent given the situation) level of response before TH-cam will actually heed your requests. That signals to me that they know their system is broken and unfairly applied; they're just putting in as much weight as possible because they know most smaller channels can simply not afford the legal fees to force them to stick to their own rules. However, they're probably also terrified of anyone actually following through and setting some form of legal precedent that could be used against them in the future.
ITs not just firearms. Google seems to want all independent content creators to get off the TH-cam platform so they can convert it into basically a television service.
I cant help but laugh at how drastically different youtube is today from what it was when I was a kid. I want to emphasize that I dont think the things I saw on it was okay at that age, but I turned out just fine so this new-age stuff is just hilarious & infuriating.
Something to point out: if a video gets age restricted, it does not get recommended to ANYONE not logged in to TH-cam and cannot even be found if you’re not logged in.
I rarely see "dangerous" gun videos, they're all incredibly informative, so removing the videos is just another way to keep people in the dark about gun safety
While I can't see subscribing myself, I do applaud and support this endeavour. I wish you and the other creators all success in this enterprise.
YT not wanting people educated on firearms is what is dangerous
I'm willing to bet the AR-180 video got age restricted by some AI because it had the word "sexy" in the title.
I've said it once, and I'll say it again: TH-cam, by virtue of being a subsidiary of Google, should be regulated as a government-granted monopoly. Google, as an organization, is *so* integral to the very fabric of modern communication infrastructure that there is no reality where their private endeavors - such as TH-cam - could ever meaningfully fail. This effectively means TH-cam will, forever, remain _the_ most widely used and widely available video platform on the internet, as long as there is an internet. While "alternatives" exist, they cannot, in any meaningful way, actually compete against TH-cam, much in the same way that a mom-and-pop hardware store on Main Street can't compete against companies like Home Depot or Lowes (not a great example, I know, since neither HD or Lowes are ubiquitious enough to be monopolies... but I'm just trying to illustrate the general idea).
Realistically, companies like Alphabet (e.g. Google), Meta (Facebook), Twitter (X), etc. should *all* be regulated as federally-granted monopolies, and thus also be subject to strict oversight, as well as the protections and regulations that such oversight brings with it. Any reality where TH-cam (or other social platforms) are allowed to remain as privately-owned, publicy-subsidized, for-profit entities would be nothing short of a travesty and an afront to the very notion of liberty itself.
what you would propose would enshrine them as legal monoliths you cant touch because they are already "legally approved"
I run a small german firearms channel and feel every word from Ian. Not only i have to choose content and words very wisely in regards of my own government but TH-cam is a different breed of animal. Randomly age restricted videos, shadow banning... nearly every month comes another nasty surprise by them. I do not earn money by this, but i am in constant fear of having 10 years of work removed within the blink of an eye. It is quite exhausting to be honest.
You guys need to get the team behind The Operations Room and The Intel Hub onto your platform. They basically disappeared outright for a month or so over the summer, and have had a slowed upload schedule since then no doubt due to the loss in income from getting their channel demonetized in much the same way you're describing. Their content is literally historic factual content, with The Operations Room being 100% animated, yet they got channel struck for it. Seems like a perfect addition to your platform
Don't worry, Ian, if FW ever disappeared, I would seek out your content. S-tier stuff right from the beginning. Everyone knows you're a top-tier creator and it would be a huge uproar in the firearms community. You're friggin' Ian McCollum.
love the concept and the transparency of the operation. However, I'm still on the fence because my interest in firearms is not deep enough for now. However, the day you guys start adding war history channels (who are also experiencing lots of difficulties with youtube), I'll be there day 1!
I`d like to thank you, Ian, for being completely upfront and clarifying the aspects that confused us about the option to not upload this content. As, unfortunately, most of your videos concentrate viewership in shooting segments (when there is any), this decision seemed to a lot of us to be purely based on click-bait. The project you described and its concept is deserving of support and, as a long time viewer, I wish you the best possible outcome in helping the content creators who are in this to provide educational content (the only firearms content I consume, mostly from yourself and C&Rsenal). Putting yourself out there and taking this responsibility to use your metrics in support of them is commendable. I`ll be keeping an eye on how this progresses.
"1867 Werndl Military Rifle" was the video that made me discover this channel about 5 years ago. At this point I watch this channel about once a week. Hello. My name is Evan and I'm an addict.
Have you heard of the Scorpion? It was a underbarrel rocket launcher designed by McDonnell Douglas. The Scorpion was as long as the rifle it was connected too.
The future of customer service is this. AI chatbots, no real human, randomly applied rulings, no way to receive actual help.
I did a review of a butcher’s shop on Google maps. It was rejected for violating “community guidelines”. After some experimentation I found out that it was the word “meat” they didn’t like. I personally dislike the word “community guidelines”. Those guidelines weren’t created by the community.
Good stuff. I'm almost 100% sure that police carbine video got age restricted because of the word "sexy" in video title.
And YT wonder why we don't want to give money to YT directly...
TH-cam says it's a platform but it acts like a publisher. So going by section 230 they should be held accountable but with the weak knee government we have google does what it wants.
You own this content, Ian. You do not need to explain anything to anyone. You owe us nothing. Love your stuff!!!!
$10 a month is too much.
TH-cam have something in common with the ATF retroactively reinterpreting their own rules.
The problem is that there is no good general replacement for TH-cam

Part of this isn't YT fault as Advertisers & gov'ts have cracked down on YT content in the past.

A bit surprised C&Rsenal isn't on that list- were they not contacted yet, or too busy to join in at the moment? It might be good for them, especially with their constant fighting with the algorithm.
I was wondering that myself. I’ve been watching C&Rsenal every day for the past year. He has an enormous catalog that really needs to be preserved too.

TH-cam is looking to get sued for contract violations. All it would take is a bunch of small claims suits, 1 per time, and that might get their attention. Especially if it gets out into the wider media.
I was initially iffy on whether I wanted a HWW subscription, but with youtube's changes regarding ad blockers, id much rather support Ian and others like him than spend the money on youtube premium. Props to you guys for starting it, really love having a video platform that isn'd big corpo owned

@@brianthomson6896Do you know you can edit your comment?
No, I didn't. Thanks for the tip.
That whole retroactive enforcement nonsense is exactly why I quit using most social media years ago. I was getting fed up with being told something I posted years ago was removed and I was suspended because they updated their TOS after the fact and someone either reported a post I had totally forgotten about, or the image/video meta data tripped an algorithm.
When you had to blur out the WWII flag for Germany in the thumbnails it was a pretty clear sign of what was to come. It's a shame about the old content because although the production was a little shoddy( shaky iPad, heavy breathing lower video quality) it is still valuable.
Speaking of, how about a how you got started video? What you did before, how excited you were to get invitations to see things and who/what is behind the scenes?

Well this comment section is about to get controversial 😂
What's controversial here?
Good on you on actually doing something about it and not just fighting the wind mills. TH-cam has had a de facto monopoly on videos and as such is prime candidate for falling on its success.
On Preserving History - As wonderful as the internet is, with the touch of a single key it can disappear. My suggestion: For Subscribers, an annual download of the year's videos. That many copies on that many hard drives cannot all be blocked or wiped. We are in an era when many think that information must be moderated and censored.
Sorry for the confusion here and we really appreciate the feedback - someone from our team will be reaching out directly via email to help.
Hope you guys know what you are doing. I'm seeing people on the internet wanting TH-cam to go subscribtion only just to give TH-cam alternatives that little push to become competitors. Hope you guys don't make that stupid decision because it will break the video internet into a million more pieces.
TH-cam needs to improve its relationship with creators. Not just guntubers. So many burns this year.
Highly doubt it
I thought this was satire so I gave it a like at first
Thanks for all you do 🙏 just subscribed to the app today
No offence Ian, but I think you're being kind of an ass with this decision. I completely understand wanting to create a new platform so that in the somewhat likely (though not certain by any means) scenario that TH-cam deems your content unfit for the platform in the future, you, along with the other information-focused guntubers will have something to fall back on. That being said, I don't think it's necessary to preemptively remove all future content featuring full auto weapons firing from your channel. Basically, if they want to find a reason to remove your channel they will do it regardless; you not having any live-fire full auto videos post 2023 won't make a smidgen of difference. Also, if they do decide to impose a new rule banning this I am certain one of the largest gun-oriented channels of TH-cam won't just be banned overnight without the chance to remove those videos when the time comes. There are a lot of people, myself included, who love learning about the history of machine guns and other full-auto firearms, and come to your channel to get the basic breakdown of how they work, the history behind their development and all the most relevant information. You have pretty much become the TH-cam equivalent of Wikipedia at this point when it pertains to firearms. I think I speak for most people when I say that when it comes to semi-autos, bolt-actions, pistols and shotguns, once you've seen a few firing you've pretty much seen it all. The live fire content people want to see on your channel is predominately going to be full autos, seeing as they want to see how they sound, how fast they shoot and your reaction to them/your opinion on their handling. No one is getting excited over what a rare bolt-action sounds/feels like when fired, at least not compared to a machine gun or auto rifle. I'll finish off by saying that this really seems a bit greedy imo. I, along with many others, will continue to watch your videos but I doubt I'll be tuning into your live firing videos any longer seeing as pretty much all of the ones I've watched in the past have been of full autos. I don't think $10 a month is a fair price to ask just for this privilege. I will miss seeing and hearing your reactions and opinions about these guns. Next time I watch your video on a new gun I guess I'll just have see it in action on different channels, which sucks because most of the entertainment-focused gun channels really know nothing about guns (with the exception of Brandon Herrera) and the rest is usually just random guys firing them at the range with little to no insightful commentary; exceptions to that are channels like machine-gun Mike and machine-gun dad but they don't upload on a very regular basis.
Won't be able to justify that cost for a while, but godspeed sir!
Vimeo pricing is going all over place too. Be careful with it.
I wish I could justify another $9.99 a month streaming service but I just cut back everything except Hulu. Best of luck and when money isn't so tight, I will subscribe.
I participate in a movie review podcast that is posted on TH-cam. A few weeks ago, we woke up on a Monday morning to find out that YT had deleted our entire channel, several hundred videos dating back three years, for "spam or misleading content." We have never taken a dime in sponsorship, in YT monetization, or off channel revenue, while consistently creating, albeit small, revenue for YT (ads AND often the movie we are reviewing is the first recommended video on our content when its available to rent or buy on YT) we're friends who do this for fun. Fortunately, we appealed and got reinstated but I cannot imagine what that experience would be like if it were an, or the, income source for us. I completely understand why you're concerned about their rules.
As one of our guys said "the internet is fickle and capricious" and YT seems to have no problem being that.
It’s true about the old video argument, I remember getting 6,7,8 year old videos and I can’t say I have recently. I’d have to pay more attention and write down what I get recommended but general observations I agree
My guy literally never fires a gun and TH-cam be treating him like a terrorist for just looking at them.
Well see the problem with your platform is it is a gated community for creators. If a independent non profit creator wants to get in, he cant, then good creators are lost.. I have seen this scheme fail all the time. Full30 for example was one of them.
Pretty much this. The reason why TH-cam was able become the name that it is, is because it was a free-for-all for anyone to post and someone can wander across whatever all the time.
That and TH-cam became a money hole as soon as it became popular. Hosting servers for people to post their videos on for free, and getting the bandwidth to process all of that is expensive.
Thanks for the backstory! I'm not a reflexive cynic, so I presumed there were very good reasons for you going to all the work to set up the video website. And yes, I subbed to HW&W.
“I have nobody I can talk to at TH-cam”
Imagine being one or the most well known content creators in your field, with over 2.62 million subscribers no less, and you don’t even have the ability to contact anyone at TH-cam. But hey make brand friendly reaction content and we’ll pedal you all over the internet!
One of Jörg Sprave's goals with the union he started in 2018 (the comment doesn't want to post if I mention its name) was to get TH-cam to engage with creators' concerns. I don't know if anything's still happening with that - its website doesn't show a lot of recent activity - but did you ever look at joining up with it?
It's not that I can't watch a video embedded or on my TV without signing in, it's that I absolutely refuse to give them id to prove I can watch age restricted videos, and that was before the current war on ad-blockers. TH-cam does seem to want to become Disney, where everything is "good wholesome American Family friendly" with, again, conservative Christian American values being imposed on the world regardless of local culture. Marge Simpson's standards seem to have won at Alphabet. You're right, that insidious and arbitrary measures will increase against such content.
You created the best firearms TH-cam channel EVER. TH-cam sucks.
I'm on TH-cam watching it. I wouldnt be surprised if TH-cam starts censoring guitar channels and heavy metal music videos just because they find rock n roll offensive for being real music.
