    Another great exploration you guys I wish I had eagle eyes vision thanks for doing all the hard work to find the amazing history and sharing it with us the city that I live near has two world War 2 naval ships and a submarine of the same area as museum ships but the two ships were converted to be missile ships but they are still still very cool to see them because my father served in the Navy but we don't have any crash sites her so it's cool to go out on this exploration thanks for dealing with the gigantic blood sucking bugs

    Amazing finds thank you.
    The gun couldn't physically fire through the crank because it was not a complete tube. It did go through the top of the block somehow. I will have to look it up now myself lol

    • @redr1150r
      @redr1150r 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +5

      There is an offset to the front gear box. The propeller does is not bolted directly to the crankshaft. All V-12s have a reduction gearbox. The small gear is on the crankshaft and the big gear has the splined propeller shaft on it. They are made in 1 piece. The cannon is usually placed between the Cylinders. It has to be fairly easy to take out for maintenance.

    • @spamhead
      @spamhead 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +5

      Yes, that’s correct. The cannon was positioned below the crankcase, and fired between the cylinders(inverted Vee)

    This is a great find, worth the research time and legwork, HH. Finding part of the engine block above ground is phenomenal. Actually, a lot of the metal is still left. It looks like they grabbed the military hardware, MGs, and radios and left the rest. I loved the accordion piece; it gives you an idea of how fast the plane speed was when it impacted. Excellent spotting, EE. Great work, people. Stay safe and well.

    The oil coolers, and Ethylene Glycol engine coolers (Radiators) are made with a brass frame designed to hold an exact number of tubes. The tubes themselves are made with a Hex end, so when they are assembled the Hex ends fit together tightly and are then soldered. The Hex end is slightly larger than the round middle section , so when assembled , there are small spaces between each tube, that allow the fluid being cooled to flow through the cooler. The flow is also controlled by a thermostat. When an engine starts to go bad and make metal, the metal flakes get imbedded between the tubes. No amount of cleaning can get them all out. The oil cooler is sent to a shop and the core is then de-soldered and a new core is installed into the body.

She’s now at the Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar in the U.K. ! And I used to work for nearly 7 years as the senior tour guide! So used to see her every day!! She is a beast and super rare ! Great video as always and keep up the great work HH and EE 😊

    Wow, I mean just wow! Guys, this is one amazing explore! Eagle Eyes, you are the man! Finding those first aluminium pieces, in all that forest growth, was incredible, but then, young man, you showed us why you earned your nickname. You did us proud finding the rest of the plane, and yes, the actual crash site. HH, EE, just fantastic work! Seeing what remains of the 109's engine just laying there, broken and wrecked, was just an amazing thing to see. That 109 hit very hard, and just concertinered herself into the hillside, as you can see by how the alluminium has been squashed together. The rest of the engine is probably still there too, scattered into the bushes, and trees. The German recovery team probably had little to do apart from removing what was left of the guns, and their ammo, and just left the rest where it lay. Again guys, just an incredible, amazing, explore, and find! Thank you for sharing this, and, more importantly, for all the effort it took to reach the site! Cheers to you both! Stay Healthy!

    It’s time to start calling Eagles Eyes a young man and not a young boy. If it wasn’t for him you would probably still be wondering around in the woods lol. The second piece of the plane you found looked like it had bullet holes in it. What a real surprise to find so many small pieces and then the mother load of wreckage. Am sure when you found the first piece it got your history hunting skills in gear. Great find in a beautiful location.

    I readying a book right now called A Higher Call by Adam Makos. It's about German fighter ace Franz Stigler who flies Messerschmitts during WW-2. He spared a crippled B-17 bomber and it's crew and protected them on their flight back across enemy lines in 1943. He could of been shot for doing that. I always enjoy your videos.

    I live in the Philippines now and I get into enough trouble carousing forgotten battlefields or remnants of aircraft or caves or finding things..my wife was certain I was out chasing other women..until she found out I was dragging home 'junk' and scraps of metal and photos of holes in the ground that were once foxholes or pillboxes

    I'm from Sri Lanka and there is a popular rumour in my father's village that there was a crashed WW2 japanese aircraft. The reason I said it was a rumour because elderly people have seen it but I have not. My father said there was a tree when they cut down during the road constructions which used to have a ring from the engine or the proplershaft from that plane. I tried to do some research but couldn't find any clue on what that plane was. I asked my father to take me to the crash site (He said he has seen that crashed aircraft in their childhood) but he said it may not be there as people had taken the parts from that aircraft away and according to our climate iron parts won't last two years they've probably rusted away. I Hope to visit tha crash site oneday. Will give you guys an update. Anyway my jaw dropped watching this video cauz that find is totally incredible. Thank you

    23:28 min. Damn no chance to bring it back 😕…. The best thing you can find on a crash side is the Engine.. (last week I revised the P47 crash side in my forest and found a spark plug 😆 i was so happy to have a part of the engine..even a small one.) in my case don’t say keep looking maybe there is the whole thing… i know wat happent after the war ..my grandpa took the engine all 8 .50bmg MGs and all aluminum piece and sold them for scrap metal…

    Aviation Archeology is very interesting to me but I am too old to actually go trekking to find any wrecks. About 20 years ago I did some research and got the locations of several crash sites here in Georgia, USA. From WWII to the 60s.

    No, those are called "Anchor Nuts", or "Nut Plates" , they are riveted in place during the aircrafts construction. A normal screw goes in these. They are for some access panels and fairings. They are used when some strength is required. Quick release fasteners, "Dzus Buttons" are used for things like engine covers and little plates for quick servicing access. They are not nearly as strong as a bolt, or screw.
