Barry is stuck in the past similar to reverse flash. The difference is that Barry chooses to live in the present and love life for what it is. Reverse Flash does everything terrible in order to get back to the future instead of accepting his mistakes and living on. God, the flash season 1 is great.

One of the things I really love about this season is that Barry couldn't straight up beat the villain like he could Zoom; it's just one of the ways this season is tightly written, showing that as relatively powerful as he is Barry still has a lot of growth to do

Tom Cavanagh is "The Flash" show Reverse Flash because he took the identity of Harrison Wells and every Eobard Wells is connected through past, present and future. And Matt Letscher's Reverse Flash is the Legend's because it's Eobards real identity and everyone of those Thawnes are connected too. The Harrison Thawne and the OG Eobard both have different memories(in a deleted scene, it was revealed by Thawne that he obtained some of the real Harrison Wells memories) and different mentally but they both hate Flash and is connected to the Negative Speed Force.

Maybe you're not supposed to think too deep about the time travel mechanics, but if Eddie killed himself and Eobard is never born, he never goes back in time to kill Nora, gets stuck in the past, doesn't live out season 1, which means Eddie never sacrificed himself. Paradox.
