Finally, an A.B.A player that actually knows how to fight Asuka - breaking the cubes with every opportunity, not letting the player get away with fake blockstrings, etc. Oh wait, this is Gobou, so it makes sense... this Asuka player is by no means bad, either. They beat Gobou in a tournament like a week ago (Gobou used A.B.A), and are like rank 3rd-4th in the world according to the game (not ratingupdate).

@Zedzilliot ...I don't know if I should consider this an insult, or a compliment...
However, so far I've had people say that I use ChatGPT to formulate my responses (do people actually do this?); I've had a colleague say that I'm a good orator; another colleague who said that I need to speak using more Layman's Terms; and my teacher said that I was one of their only students who knew how to use a semicolon - but also that I use too many in my writing... with that being said, saying that I type like Asuka would is not the most peculiar thing someone has said to me regarding my writing/speaking, but still strange to say the least...
Well, I hope that means my post(s) are meticulous, while also being easy to read/understand.

Any Asuka players in the chat want to share their takes on this matchup?
Not as interested in who wins and more your strategy for playing it. Once ABAs got good at timing their party for cubes I feel like full screen zoning plays into the lose condition of ABA being in jealous mode + asuka low on mana. Do you try to smother ABA from the beginning or try to stuff her in her default mode while setting up exodia or something? Any takes welcome I still don’t have a strong idea of what I like doing
Naturally you’d prefer to not let her in at all. If she enters install manually I like to do long block strings and just create a wall of cubes to stall until she runs out of install meter.
2D is also very good because after going into install a lot of ABA’s will try to run straight at me immediately but then get sweeped with 2D buying me a lot of time.
Her super also has a weakness that it doesn’t hit immediately so if I have 50 meter I can actually throw out my OWN super and punish her in time for it.
In neutral the move I look out the most for is 5H because I hits very wide, is a disjoint, gives her knockdown into jealous rage
That’s what I’ve learned about this matchup so far
I think it's fine to toss some cubes into parry, she is locking herself into an animation for as long as the block stun would be. You aren't really zoning to deal damage, just fishing for test case 3 into exodia. Zoning is still preferable than getting close and getting clipped by a stray jab or 2k into rekka hard knock down plus install. And can't throw stray cubes while she in install since her ground and especially jump buttons are too big, but big red spell or ground quake are still great to keep her out.
for now the safest roundstart seems to be to build distance and start shuffling through tc1 and 3, even if it builds jealousy for aba if you get lucky you can wall her out with auto import and mana before she gets in. Its always risky to use tc3 because of all the passive cards, but getting the right hand when she is in install can win the round by eating through her jealousy.
Yeah 5h is really scary, anytime you’re in 5H range and ABA is fully actionable you should be prepared for it.
Beyond that, it’s a matchup that really tests your resource management, as you can’t just cycle things for free.
It’s really important to not go afk and do deck managing the way you would in other matchups, throwing out cubes just to stall and give you time to work through your cards, bc aba will pick up a lot of free gauge off that and then unless you play perfectly you’re fucked. If you see them just waiting at a distance especially you should try something else.
Staffs are strong because they can make it hard for her to do her parry on projectiles. Slow staff can be used as a big tempo changer in neutral because it cucks her command dash and can mess with parry timing. Fast staff is extremely strong because, as long as you don’t play super predictable, it turns her experience into Winnie the Pooh’s Home Run Derby, where parrying cubes becomes nearly impossible, and if she blocks it lets you transition really quickly to the mode you want to play in against ABA
I’m always a big fan of strike/throw asuka using kara dash cancel and such, but I think it’s especially important against ABA. If you can get in and start doing this it makes a huge difference. Much harder for her to gain free meter, she doesn’t have a DP, and a successful strike or throw will let you cycle your hand in peace.
Ending you combos with 6C or a knockdown into a meaty based on situation is important, more so than usual.
Basically, try to get in quickly, staffs help a lot, and then play up in her face and disengage when you can’t continue pressure. Always consider her special resource when trying to manage yours.

Yeah my expectation was that ABA would ignore the cube and bonk Asuka. What we got was like mixing coffee, hot sauce, and a banana. It was weird but definitely not wonderful

I see this type of comment fairly often, and I don't understand why... Asuka can't brawl in the lore, unlike Ram, so if you remove all the attacks where the Tome is doing all the work, then you'll just be left with jK, 5K, and 2K. If they were to give him attacks where he attempts to brawl, they would probably be horrible normals that do like 5 damage to the opponent...
