"Wasshoi! Wasshoi! Wasshoi! Wasshoi!“ Great reaction. 🦊🤘 The song title translates as 'Metali' (or 'Metari') - it wouldn't show up in translations because it is a made up word, it is a fusion of the words metal and matsuri (festival). The song is about a Metal Village holding a metal festival, so they have included all the matsuri shouts everybody would be calling out as encouragement to the people carrying heavy floats etc like "Sore, Sore", "Dokoisho" and "Wasshoi!". They are inviting us all to dance - I am reliably informed there is something in the lyrics (Su sings it and it is in Momometal's kabuki theatre section) about we are all idiots or fools - the idiots who watch and the idiots who dance ... so as we're all here and we're all idiots why just watch, we may as well all dance. Interesting thing about BABYMETAL always being covered neck to toe - this has always clearly been a very deliberate policy. It isn't anything to do with the lore, it is because they were children when they started, so everything was always very much age appropriate and they have never resorted to trying to sell themselves or their music through any other means than their talent, their performances and the quality of the music. A big part of their appeal to a big proportion of the fan base is that they have never been sexualised, no exposed skin, no suggestive or dubious dance moves included in the choreo. With so many artists resorting more and more to wearing as little as possible it has made a very pleasant change to see BABYMETAL doing so well without ever resorting to that.
Honestly, lots of fans love how they are modestly dressed, especially when they were kids of course ! It's kind of refreshing to not have celebrities dress like euh.. whatever you want to call it. Why not focus on other things instead, like talent and hard work and having fun.
I've always been grateful these women have never been depicted as sexy. I imagine credit is due to Kobametal (producer), who demonstrates a very strong protective spirit for the girls/women. I want to believe he knows that to make them sexy would be to demean their music/dance.
Obviously this started like that since when they started they were very young and obviously there was no need to sexualize anything, (it would be very creepy af lol). Now they have grown, but in this way the essence continues to be maintained above all, absolutely all the attention goes towards their performance and nothing else. I think that makes them even better.
@@Eliimore93 I agree. It started out protecting little girls and became protecting grown women. Sadly, to the entertainment industry, broadly speaking, sexualizing little girls is not obviously a bad thing. And you’re right, at least for heterosexual men, not making them sexy means we watch and listen because they sing and dance wonderfully, and the message of their music is so good for us. I do have the impression that in Japan the Idol industry has lots of creepiness about it. These women’s talent and success I think kept them above that creepy fray, but for less talented/less lucky Idols in Japan, it might not be so healthy.
I zhink it has more to do with the want to protect the girls while he got the feeling zhat he forced them on stage. We must not forget, originally they didn't really want to play metal, he offered them a longterm contract. So he showed them some metal and they got ready to do some of these things for him. And he was pretty Nervus to force thrm to do anything and they simply took conttol. Originally idols are forced inzo sexy clothes since their primary Feature is how young they are. While Babymetal pretty fast acknowledged, we are either in costume and then we are ready to play or we are not in costume and we don't have to be in character. So their costumes pretty fast devopped into a Kind of armour, and in fact their costumes developed into their armour. It is undrrstandable. On the one hand you want to suit up quickly, but on the other hand you don't want to be restricted in your normal life. And when you nowadays see them you realize that they really wear a costume when they are in their dresses and you doesn't recognize them in Civil clothes. For them their work costumes pretty much are an armour. They have their microphones and Headsets pretty much included and they always Look the same and since they are trained in stage personas they are the same as their characters stay the same.
@@ksbrst2010 Yes, Japanese celebrities are treated differently than we treat ours here. Privacy seems to be much better protected in Japan. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Papparazi in Japan. It does seem like Japanese celebrities actually do enjoy real privacy. And I agree, Su/Moa/Momo/Yui are definitely "in character" when in costume/on stage. I have no doubt their personalities are quite different off-stage. However, they appear genuine in their enjoyment of their work. They don’t seem to be pretending to be happy, and it’s a big reason for their success, as their joyful audience interactions endear them to us all, not to mention their fantastic and complicated choreographies.

Hell yeah!! Song title is “Metali”, word mash of Metal + Matsuri (Festival). Such a fun and energetic performance. Babymetal has always been covered attire-wise, and presented elegantly because they were 12/11 when they started. I respect their label for not going down a dark path with Babymetal. 🤘🦊
I can’t wait to see them tomorrow and the day after tomorrow (3.2-3.24) at Yokohama Arena🤘🦊🤘My last show was in Orlando at the rail last September.🔥Moa saw me and waved at me❣️They have typically performed this song somewhere in the middle, and they usually start their concerts with 'BABYMETAL DEATH' or 'IN THE NAME OF.
Metali is one of their best live songs imo. Its so good live. Why do they dress conservatively? Why not? They are very talented young women who do just fine without having to sell out for attention.
Wasshoi! Welcome back to BabyMetal's journey. We got another banger for Japanese festival or any festival around, they performed this at the recent World Tour 2023 and getting the crowd going bonkers with this. The live debut was at Apocrypha - Another One exclusive show prior to the track release, it was fun and totally unexpected, everyone was having a blast and even started with a Kami Band solo after a while without it. There's a live proshot version at Summer Sonic Festival in Osaka released in the official summer sonic. You'll notice some slight difference between the live and the studio album. The song title is Metali!! (metal + matsuri, which is a Japanese festival) and you can hear it in the spoken section when MomoMetal is doing the Kabuki moves style. Just so you know "wasshoi" is another shout used in Japanese festivals when men are carrying the shrine, similar to sore and soya in Megitsune and Karate. The traditional Japanese instrument you can hear in the beginning is a shamizen, also used in Megitsune. I can totally see why they pick Tom Morello on this, the groove, the catchiness, the super energetic jump and those typical 90's vibes at funk or alternative metal live concerts. Next suggestion: - MAYA live at PIA Arena MM official MV. Btw they released Babymetal Death live at PIA Arena MM 2023 official MV but i highly suggest to check live at Legend 1997 version instead if you didn't already. Thanks for sharing this Anastasia and see you next time.🦊🤘🎸
Sorry you missed seeing Babymetal this time around. I was lucky enough to see them in both Toronto and Vancouver. Epic shows!! Can't wait until the next time I get to see them. Babymetal forever!! 🤘🦊🤘
This was a festival performance, not a Babymetal one man. It was in Japan though so the festival audience certainly included a number of Babymetal fans. And this is totally a crowd hype song. I for one am eternally grateful that Babymetal has decided not to sexualize their image. It would be deeply creepy and contrary to everything Babymetal is about.
I feel like I always get a very personal perspective from your reactions to Babymetal. I personally believe and appreciate that Babymetal from the start made a very conscious decision that Babymetal was about the power of the music and performance. I feel they've-particularly as adults-dressed as warriors and never felt like they needed to play up or resort to any revealing costumes to get attention. They look regal and powerful and that is definitely part of the mystique.
In the early days their costumes actually showed more skin with the gothic lolita style tutus and sleeveless embroidered "armor". I would imagine that they get more input into the costumes now, but OTFGK... I recall one interview where they were joking about "oh we finally get sleeves, yay!" talking about the look of the costumes (I think it was after the 2nd album).
Ah I see It's not officially announced, but I think it's probably because they want to avoid sexual stares. I think it means that we don't "sell women as weapons".
Babymetal has a bunch of great songs for opening, so they didn't choose to do that, they put this at the start of the second half, after a more quiet song (Monochrome)
Wow it's been a hot minute since you've reacted to Babymetal! In terms of Babymetal retiring, you'll KNOW when that is happening by keeping an eye on Moametal. I don't know Momometal enough, but Moa is a VERY emotional lady. She is going to be balling her eyes out when they perform their last show. It was for this reason alone I KNEW without a doubt that Babymetal was going to return after they performed their last show during Covid when they went on their hiatus. So if you ever wonder the state of Babymetal, look no further than Moa as your telltale sign to the state of the band. Second, I was really looking forward to your reaction when Momometal was doing her solo-piece and then did the growl! In Reality everone really needs to their homework. I'm still laughing 😅 moment about this situation! My great inspiring message is out! Have a great fabulous wonderful day.😀
Metalli was pretty much selected as a special to promote Momo. It is normally placed in the middle of the show since dhe really spoke the No characters, so they had the chance to really put her in the spotlight which was not podsible in other songs, while she was there she wss an Avenger and this meant no one must hear her sing but this meant once she became a mrmber everyone wanted to hear her voice.
The modesty is one aspect that really drew me to my favorite Asian female bands, and particularly in Babymetal's case, since they were so young to start. Sexualization in appearance or lyrical content would have driven me right away. The one exception to showing skin would be Midori of LOVEBITES as you well know, but even she does not do it in a tawdry way.
I enjoyed your reaction up to the point where you questioned their lack of showing "skin" I am sure the multimillionaire ladies from BABYMETAL are looking at your videos and thinking why YOU show so much "skin" is it possibly because you think that will give you some sort of validation. Now where is that do not recommend this channel button, oh there it is.
I agree with pretty much everything you said but we have no idea if the girls are multimillionares. They must be very well off but they are "just" employees for Amuse and none of us have any clue what kind of contracts they have so we really can't know how wealthy they actually are.
