Wow! What a gorgeous boat and the Mercury Verado 600’s are unbelievable. Mercury has really set the bar high on this one. 70+ m.p.h. on a 46’ boat is crazy. The maneuverability of the boat is what every boat owner dreams about. This boat is way beyond my means but it truly was a joy to watch and listen to. 👍👍

Transmission: My first boat topped out at 40mph at 6500rpm and got terrible fuel economy. I have wanted gears on outboards since day 1. Every time I asked, I was told to "just change the prop" which struck me a a bit tricky at 40 mph.....but very happy to see a 2 speed finally available.
But you get that at an 1800lb weight premium. 4 Vorados=5000 lbs. One Cat=6800 lbs. You could add a whole 600 more hp with a Vorado and still not weigh as much as the big CAT.
I’d be interested in speed/fuel burn with outer 2 engines tilted. I would think 1200 would be sufficient horsepower with the added benefit of a useable dive platform.
I understand that these motors cost about $77K each. I'll have to stick with my 21ft outrage and 175hp. The fish don't actually know the difference. I also have the ability to fish off the stern. An added bonus.
But the outrage don’t look like this or have as much detail. Some people just like to have nice things while fishing. And you not going offshore with a 21. If you do not very smart.

Are the transmission controllers electronically linked in the computer to ensure all the shift points are synced? Or maybe they are programmed in a staggered configuration to reduce any perceivable jump between gears?
It certainly is. I think the main benefits are the swivel gear box, two speed efficiency, and the projected maintenance benefits. It was also interesting that he said the trip would still get you to 68-69. That makes a quad even harder to justify.
I love this, after months of lusting after the Everglades 455, the usual set up for which is 4 x Yamaha 425s (giving a little over 60 mph) although there's the option of having 3 of these Mercs. I wonder if they can fit 4 of them...?

I have run Mercury's since the 60's these are phenominal what they dont tell you is the fuel consumption! Probably about 30 G/ph at full throttle! EACH!!!
I get it, for some people, this is their thing... But, for the money involved in this boat, you could get a very, very nice airplane that cruises near 200mph with a fuel burn of 15 gallons per hour. (Maybe a bit more) For this money, your airplane would of course have flat screen Garmin's and all the accessories. You could travel the country and not be limited to a lake or the near-coastal waters. 🤨 I'd rather have the airplane. To each their own.

@DO NOT RESPOND marine engines don't work like that. You can't just change a prop and get more speed. Wode open throttle has to run at a certain RPM range. This is normally a fairly narrow window. For every pitch in prop you add, you drop a couple hundred RPM. this means you only have a couple of prop pitches to run on any specific setup. You also need to account for slip. Too little slip and you'll break parts, too much and you'll waste fuel. Adding blades will decrease slip, but cost you RPM as well, so you'll need to go down in pitch with as you add more blades. More blades also typically reduces top speed, but increases cruise efficiency and holeshot. Then, you have the issue with some boats having cleaner water at the prop, like a stepped transom boat, and boats that have high X dimensions, so more blades are needed to keep slip below 20%. You see, you can't just throw any prop on a boat, and you certainly can't just change the pitch and get more speed. It is far more complicated than that.
The one shot of the helm showing the engines running at 72-73mph nowhere near 1/2 mile to the gallon with 370 gallons of fuel on board. and I heard another figure at 60 gallons of fuel per hour on another video( I think with all 4 engines running) Makes you wonder how far and how much cruising until you run out of fuel.
Help me understand. Same boat with quad 450’s went 70.. quad 600’s gets 74? I get that their two speed and quiet and don’t move but I expected a bigger top end.
Thinking 3 600s might be the better setup on this boat. With ~1,300lbs off the transom and the proper setup, you could probably get it to the upper-60s with slightly better cruising economy and have ~$80k in gas money in your pocket. Less bragging rights though.

These new Mercs were designed for the luxury express and high end Center console markets. 7Marine was basically taking a $16K GM LT4 crate engine on top of a ZF transmission. They really put all of their engineering into the gear case and transfer case. And then charged almost $100K for it. And in many ways, this new V-12 Merc is way ahead of the 7Marine - especially with the trans and steering and lower unit.
I understand Mercury here - They have to make money. I don't understand a prospective buyer of this setup. One would have to have more money than sense to go for it.

If you're only going to get 8 to 10mph more with quads, I'd save the $80k and stick with triples. $80.000 will pay for a LOT of fishing trips. lol. I bet double V12 Verados on like a 42LR Freeman Cat' would push it around 65mph.
Turn on the GPS function on your phone and show us the speed. Why does Mercury call it Lake X anymore? Everyone knows where it's located. Must have been a cold Central Florida day when testing. It lost 10 mph with one motor tilted up.

So if you catch 500 fish it costs $1000 or more per fish per the cost of the boat but not including the 3 gallons to the mile to get the fish home in a hurry to cook.

In 1957, my grandfather bought a 21 foot Chris Craft cabin cruiser with twin 35 HP Johnson’s. We were liv’n large cruising around Biscayne Bay.

Its a cush drive trans, so it is clutched, actuates over a set period of time, you dont even notice the shift on a larger craft
