Am not Kenyan, but I have lived there. They tend to know everything worth knowing about literally every African country, I was talking to a 14year old, who was in what they call (form one) (freshman year) the guy knows his stuff!!! We talked about world geography and I was blownnnn awaaayyyy!!!! He even knew so much about countries like north and south Korea, when I asked how? He said it was due to the education system, and the internet!! I felt really stupid. 😅 They also make a point of learning foreign languages, and their English is Top notch. Love from Australia.

Malawi doesn't need to review its curriculum rather it maybe needs to make History and Geography compulsory. The lack of knowledge reflected in this video is partly because History and Geography are optional courses in the Malawian secondary school curriculum. Otherwise, Kenya like most countries is part of the Secondary School History and Geography curriculum. For instance, I learnt in Secondary School Geography that Kenya and Malawi are the top producers and exporters of tea.

"I don't know much about Kenya" seemed to be a standard answer for most of Malawians in this video. Sorry African Tigress for the cold reception. It has a lot to do with countries not sharing anything culturally, no exchange programmes, no prescribed books from African writers, etc. So, we know very little about each other. But, say something about the US, Hollywood, UK, because of TV programmes we know a lot about them that we even feel they are closer to us than African brothers and sisters. Good work!

As an African American , the great Jomo Kenyatta, the beautiful Serengeti, the majestic Masai and other tribes , Mt. Kilimanjaro , the courageous Kenyan fight to overthrow the British , were just some of the items we learned and discussed in the US. We have maps of Mighty Africa, learn the regions, familiarize ourselves with the various cultures, histories, languages and traditional of the Greatest Place on Earth- Mighty Africa. All this was in line with the concept of Pan Africanism.
If these youngsters do not know Africa, then WE have failed them, as they are our future and our present responsibility. Lack of knowledge can be overcome but we must be ever watchful against apathy- the strongest enemy of all. Please, Sisters and Brothers, let African Tigress’ presentation be a teaching moment for us to step up and educate our children - they will learn , IF we teach them.
Mighty Africa is the future of the world and world’s future rests upon the strong shoulders of Africa.
African Tigress, my respect and appreciation to you for highlighting this state of affairs.

No. My reference to Mt. Kilimanjaro was to point out people and features of Africa as a whole. I did not mention Samora Michel, Omar Mukhtar,Lumumba , the Pink Lake Senegal , the Namibian mystical landscape or Timbuktu. The main point was that Africa has so much history, landmarks, events, people , that the teaching of students will never be exhausted. My error in not clarifying.

And for the few who were to dense in class to follow any subject, internet has brought the world to our phones. Kenyans love poking their noses (positively) into everything and there aren't many topics Kenyans are shy to discuss and they do so quite knowledgeably. I recall watching a similar interview in that took place in DRC and the Congolese knew a great deal about Kenya too. Even the Zimbabwean interview established that they (apart from the Advocate) know a great deal about Kenya.

To be honest, I am sad, but I would like to thank the African Tigress, for today’s topic. The post Dr Kamuzu Banda governments have dampened down Malawi’s education. How can you have a Form 3 kid, not knowing where a fellow East African Country which is less than 1000 Miles away and border your immediate neighbour is located. Malawians where once ahead of Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, education wise. Rhodesians used to go and study at Malawian High Schools for their Secondary Education, and later go to Makerere, Fort Hare and UK 🇬🇧. I hope their education department sees this video. Thank you African Tigress

The point most people are missing in the comment section is that Geography and History are optional subjects in the Malawian secondary school curriculum. I dropped history in Form 2 then dropped Geography in Form 3. Our music industry is mostly influenced by Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Angola, South Africa, DRC, West Africa (Nigeria, Ghana, etc) the Caribbean, and Western countries (e.g. R n B, hip hop, etc). Thus, it is not surprising that most of the interviewees do not know much about Kenya like most African countries that have minimal contact with Malawi.
Nevertheless, African Tigress like most African TH-camrs is doing a great job of educating the Africans about our continent.

Africa has 54 countries. Most of our syllabuses concentrate on their own country or those significant to their country. It is unreasonable to expect people to know all 54 countries in Africa. Just because one country decides to concentrate on African history or Geography it does not mean all the countries should do the same.

Quite intriguing though. I think we learn n know much about the continental countries of Africa here in Kenya without even having to travel
