- I narrowed down over 100 different electric vehicle (EV) options to the Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus (SR+) based on three main factors: price, range, and speed. So it was time to get down to ordering my first EV on the Tesla website. In this video, I go through the Tesla ordering process step-by-step for my Tesla Model 3 SR+.

►Big Update as of 11/2/2021 - The Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus is now listed as the Tesla Model 3 under "Rear-Wheel Drive" on Tesla's website, and comes with a 5.8 sec 0-60 mph time now (previously 5.3 sec 0-60 mph), along with 272 miles of range with the 18" aero wheels and 267 miles of range with the 19" sport wheels (both previously listed for 262 miles of range). The starting price of the Tesla Model 3 RWD is also $43,990 now after two back-to-back $2,000 price increases in October 2021.
►Price update as of 11/4/2021 - The starting price of the Tesla Model 3 RWD is now $44,990 while the starting price of the Tesla Model 3 Long Range is now $50,990 after a $1,000 price increase for all of the Tesla Model 3 trims (starting price of the Tesla Model 3 Performance is now $58,990).
Well sadly got 6k slap In the face 46,999 not going to happen I'm just getting a new one standard model for that price , they raised it to 52,999!!!! It's insane
@@MadmaxMusic93 Yeah definitely. These recent price hikes have been no joke
@ i got one!! 6 months update it's been a great car best car i have ever owned!! glad it came with USS's crazy no more sensors! or charger
@@MadmaxMusic93 Hell yeah! Awesome to hear!
Thank You for uploading this video! Very informative!
Thank you Glen!
I happen to be in MD as well so this was especially helpful. I've never even been in a Tesla but I'm pretty convinced on purchasing a Model 3 Performance after researching deep into them. My last 2 vehicles were white, but it's still one of my top colors. I've owned blue and black as well. Not a huge fan of red in general, but Teslas is such a nice shade of red. Was leaning away from white only because I thought the others may be less prevalent colors out on the road. Having such a hard time thinking about a color choice lol.
Niceee and awesome to hear. And yeah tough choice and I agree. I'm usually not a fan of red either, but I test drove a red MY LR recently and it really is a nice shade of red. I was thinking about white or blue when I ordered my M3 but ended up going with the white since it came with an extra layer with the multi-coat like the red. But yeah tough choice and really interested to see if Tesla comes out with new colors soon
This could be a solid channel if you stay consistent with content.
Thanks! I'll do my best to be consistent and I'll have a new video posted tomorrow.
Thanks for the uploading this. I just ordered Y and received email for the confirmation. but how to get the delivery and registration screen?
No problem, glad it was able to help and very nice. After logging into Tesla's website, the delivery and registration section should pop up after clicking on your Model Y order
I'm going to pick the one as you.
Nice! Love my M3!
Thank you for this. Do you happen to know if the trade in value will be locked in until you get the car? ( for example ordering today and getting trade in value today, delivery date December)
No problem. And nope, the trade in value is valid for 30 days then Tesla will ask you if you still want to trade in a car. I decided not to trade in and the numbers automatically updated after I chose no. If you still wanted to trade in the car, Tesla will ask you to submit an updated odometer reading and the trade in value will be good for another 30 days. From what I've read, Tesla usually doesn't change the value of the trade in after the initial assessment. Hope that helps!
What about the charging devices?
I ordered mine a few week ago - It will not be here until June 2022. Nice Vid
Thanks and awesome to hear!
How do you have Tesla switch from cash to finance later on?
Just ordered a M Y and the estimated delivery date is September 15 to October 20th.
You have a great channel by the way man! Great presentation!
Thanks! Really appreciate it and awesome to hear! And whenever you want to switch from cash to finance later, all you have to do is call your assigned Tesla advisor or any other advisor at your local Tesla shop and they'll be able to change it for you right away
@@CasualTeslaFan Cool, thanks so much! Looking forward to future vids 😊
@@lithiumkc8Any time!
Best video yet! I have a question, I want to place an order now so when it arrives in 6 months I can do financing (my personal credit union). However, what if I need to delay it another 3 months as I am not ready to finance yet.. Can I delay it without having to add another $250 order fee?
Thanks so much Nicholas! And yup that's right. All you would need to do is contact an advisor at your local Tesla store and they'll be able to help you delay your order right away without any additional fees.
@@CasualTeslaFan thanks! What if I receive my VIN, can I still delay it you think?
@@NickL0VIN Yup, an advisor should be able to help you place a hold on your order and get a new VIN assigned to you when you're ready
Great video! Is buying a used Tesla the same process as new?
Thanks! And yup pretty much the same process but much quicker delivery date haha
question: can you opt to pick up your vehicle even if they offer home delivery?
Please comment from experience.
Question, when you decided to go for a similar M 3 that was ready for pickup. Was there a price deference or change in price being that it had a different battery? And was there any additional steps taken on the financial side of things while having to cancel the production of the original order of the model 3?
Hey Eli, so the price ended up being the same and the prices just went by what they were going for at the time. Luckily, Tesla didn't raise the price between the time I placed my first order and the time I found one in stock that was ready for pickup. And nope, so they created a new order for the one ready for pickup and then canceled my first order so there weren't any additional steps, but I did have to go through the same steps again for the new order though.
@@CasualTeslaFandid they have to ding your credit again?
Can I do all this without a License?
Holy smokes we get ripped off here in the U.K. Monthly on a M3 here minimum is £450 which works out at $550! The finance is also double the APR you guys get.
Damn that's crazy. Just saw that they raised interest rates in the UK even more yesterday too
Just to be clear. I can order the Tesla today with the $250 Deposit, submit that I will pay cash, and can secure financing at a later date? Are you certain? Man thank you for this video. I was just about to place my order but was hesitant about securing the financing right now
Hey Mike, awesome to hear and yup they're pretty flexible with the payment options and any Tesla advisor will be able to change it for you whenever you're ready
What credit score do you need to get approved
What happens after you pay the order fee and everything, but your credit doesn’t get accepted🤔 do they automatically approve you but just for a high Apr??
Someone from Tesla should reach out and let you know if it doesn't get accepted. You can just let em know that you secured your own financing or you're paying cash and it's pretty flexible up until your delivery date
Hi thank for your video, why do you have to choose the battery,?
Any time! And you don't have to choose the battery anymore. It was just an example from when the LFP battery was first introduced back around September 2021 when some owners had the choice. All M3 RWD come with the LFP battery now.
Hi , can I ask you one more question? The wall charger, will it work with dryer outlet?
@@cuocsongkentucky9951 Any time and yup you definitely can. You'll just need to buy an adapter like a 10-30 or 14-30 to use with the charger depending on the outlet
When I place my order, I got the email stating finish up the setup delivery information, it’s not there. Do I keep waiting or should go to the showroom to find out what’s going on?
Gotcha. So Tesla never sent over the order confirmation email?
im planning on ordering a tesla, but im doing with a co signer. is there a option for that or?
Nice! And for a co-signer financing through one of Tesla's preferred partners, it looks like all you would have to do is contact a Tesla rep or your delivery advisor to let them know you have a co-signer, and a new section for a co-signer will appear in your profile to fill out. It looks like the only catches are that the co-signer will also be on the registration and will also need to be there with you on delivery day.
Do you only pay the 250 then you get your vehicle? Or do you pay a larger upfront ?
Hi Aiyana, yup you only pay the $250 when you order your vehicle. Tesla will start making your vehicle and you won't have to pay anything else until your vehicle's ready. Then, someone from Tesla will reach out to you about making payment arrangements before delivery day.
@@CasualTeslaFanI seen on Tesla finance page where it said 11,000 down payment or I’ve personally seen 4,500 down payment. Do you have to do a down payment?
So for the “gas savings” part when doing the loan, if I put that I drive 10,000 miles a year and gas in California is close to $6 a gallon and I put $6 a gallon, am I getting that gasoline savings of -$11,000 taken off my loan, or is that just for show?
Yeah it's just for show. It's cool how Tesla can show us how much gas we can save but it's a little misleading because it's not the real price we pay for the car and loan
@@CasualTeslaFan thank you!!!
@@milesromo1328 Anytime!
Is there a way to see how much the grand total is before making a deposit including fees and documentation and registration?
Yup you'll be able to see all the fees along with the grand total before making a deposit and you don't have to make a deposit until your car is ready for pick up
I’m planning to order a model 3 rwd now, says est Oct to Dec 2022. Should I do the trick with the cash? Will they refuse to change it to finance lease later?
Nice! Yeah I would just go with cash and then change it to finance or lease later when Tesla sends out a more specific delivery date. We just went through the same process with a Y recently and Tesla advisors can change the payment method any time before delivery
Thanks for your info. I ordered my Model 3!!! I think the process changed and now you can only go and finish it up on the app, also there’s a change button on the finance-cash tab, I believe that now they giving you the option to change it yourself. That was the same way for your order?
@@panosfxable Any time and awesome to hear! And yup sounds like the exact same process for our order except for the change button part. It might have been because we placed the order a while back last year, but we had to call in to get an advisor to change it from cash to finance right before our delivery
@@CasualTeslaFan nice! I’ll keep the chat posted if it really works with the button
@@panosfxable awesome thanks!
Can I ask why you put so much down? I think it was $13k @ signing right… is that normal? I was thinking more alone the lines of $6k total at signing. any info is much appreciated!
Sure thing! Yeah $13k was what I got for my last car so I just put that down for my SR+. And thinking about it now, I probably should have put less down because of the lower interest rate and invested the rest. Hindsight can be a mother sometimes haha.
@@CasualTeslaFan oh ok! lol that makes sense, I am not trading in or selling so that’s why I was thinking around $6k being an ok amount, thanks for the info!!
@@NurseCarnivore No problem and any time!
Ok so when do you hand over your trade in?
Hi Angie, you'll hand over your trade-in whenever you pick up your Tesla so you can keep driving your car until delivery day. You can just hand over the keys then and they'll take care of everything from there.
To clarify, I don’t have to fully complete my profile to get a VIN right? I did everything except payment options
That's a great question, J. Yup, you should still get an estimated delivery date and a VIN, but it's recommended to complete everything including the payment options to get your VIN faster. According to Tesla, they prioritize VIN numbers for orders with completed tasks.
@@CasualTeslaFan great, thank you for the help and nice content!
@@yankeesfan2726 Anytime and thanks so much!
How does this work for Tesla I wonder because I am sure that a lot of people are impulse buyers, especially since it’s only $250. Then they decide in a few days, or weeks that they don’t want the car but Tesla has started making it. I wonder how they wouldn’t loose wasted time/money etc. That’s the problem with making it this easy it sounds.
Hello I want to finance a Tesla model 3 but have a question first. If I put down $5000 as my down payment will I be charged anything else besides my $5k down payment and my $250 holding fee? Like will they charge me a week later another 4k in sales tax? Just want to make sure I’ll have enough lol
Hey Javier, awesome to hear and sure thing. So after you place your order and pay the $250 fee, you'll get the chance to customize the exact amount you want to pay when you pick up your car including all the taxes and fees along with the exact amount you want to pay monthly in the finance section. There's no surprises and the amount you choose to pay for your Tesla in the finance section is going to be the exact same amount you'll pay on delivery day when you pick it up. Hope that helps!
@@CasualTeslaFan awesome! Feel more better about this than. Do you happen to know what’s the lowest credit score they will approve
@@JavierPerez-co7sc Nicee. And I'm not sure what the minimum is, but I think the lowest scores I've seen get approved through Tesla's financing partners so far have been around the 600-650 range.
You’re amount due which was $13351, was that because you put $12k as a down payment and they added the sales taxes to it? If so when would you pay that? When you order the car or when you receive the car? I’m also looking to owning one I just need info first
Hi Steven, gotcha. You're gonna be able to adjust the amount due to whatever you want it to be after making the reservation. So let's say for example, you wanted to pay $15k and finance the rest, you can tweak the numbers to make it like that on your reservation. And you wouldn't need to pay that $15k amount due until you receive the car.
@@CasualTeslaFan Think you answered my question. What happens if you get shot down for financing or you don't like your apr and you have tried multiple financial institutions? Does Tesla just take the car that you customized and just sell it to someone who had an identical order?
I'm subscribing to your channel now
@user-fv9dk2jp2c Hey Mike, so Tesla can keep holding onto your order for you until you're ready. There is a limit to how many times they can push back your delivery date though but that depends on each location and their advisors
So wait this is probably a stupid question but does the $250 non refundable fee come out of your down-payment or no??
Nope, not a stupid question. The $250 fee will show up separately as a minus from the car price. So for example if you put down $5,000, the order fee will show up as -$250 and the down-payment will show up as -$5,000 in the finance section
at 8:37 how did you go from 45k total cost of vehicle to 31k est amount financed?
Hey Anthony, I had a trade-in vehicle that made up the difference between the two
What happens if you pay the 250 and here you dont get approved. Do you get the money back ?
Nope they don't refund the 250 unfortunately. You can ask and see if you can delay your delivery date though if you're able to get approved for financing later
It's insane now for model 3s 47k now.. that's just to damn expensive shame for us still paying these prices, but yew savin up getting a used 3 long range awd hope 46k with only 12k miles!! Putting 22-23,k trade an 1500-2000$ down get my payments under 400
Yeah it really is crazy how much the prices have gone up in just the last 6 months. But nice! That's awesome to hear and sounds like a great deal without the wait. Crazy how much the wait times have gone up too
@@CasualTeslaFan yeah if I was to put 27k down car trade in an little down 318 a month!! Of course 84 months but more time to pay it off!
@CasualTeslaFan. Why is your amount due so high?
Hey Sheng, it was just an example screenshot I took at the time and I adjusted my final numbers later, but the amount due in the screenshot is high because the down payment amount was set high. Tesla makes it really easy to pick the exact amounts you want to finance and pay at delivery after placing an order
Is the process of leasing almost the same as financing?
Yup def the same process for both and you can switch between leasing, financing, and cash whenever
@@CasualTeslaFan thank you, im thinking of buying one soon
Hello sir, congratulations
Thank you!
@@CasualTeslaFan did you get the car?
@@piyushkanthak1087 Yup I did and should have new videos up on it soon!
@@CasualTeslaFan man I am excited, please post the videos.
@@piyushkanthak1087 For sure!
Where does it get delivered too?
Hey Brayden, your M3 can be delivered to your closest Tesla service center or any Tesla service center you choose. Depending on where you live, they can also deliver to your house too.
Is it true that they don't finance taxes you have to pay that separate?
Great question. IIRC, the taxes and fees were included in the finance section and there was a sliding bar you could use to customize and adjust the exact amounts you wanted to put down, finance, and pay monthly including all taxes and fees
@@CasualTeslaFan so yes they finanace them. I was watching another video where it said due at signing and gave a huge balance so it confused me. Buying on next month so didn't want surprises. Thank you
Ah gotcha npnp. Yeah def had the option to roll everything into the loan and choose how much to pay on signing/delivery day
hey i have a question my dream car is a tesla model 3 and im 15 rn in one year ill be turning 16 and getting a driver's license and according to tesla i have to pay 49k for tesla model 3 but if i put down my card information where will the 49k dollars go?
Hey hey that's awesome and hella exciting you're gonna start driving soon. Just wanna make sure I'm understanding your question right. You wanna pay for a Tesla model 3 using a credit card?
@@CasualTeslaFan uh no I mean like you know where you pay for the Tesla and customize it when you purchase it where dos the 49k go
@@CasualTeslaFan like how do you pay the 49k
@Skizzerzs Ohhhh gotcha. Yeah so Tesla's gonna reach out to you whenever your car is ready. Then you'll be able to pay for that 49k in the Tesla app where you'll put in your bank account info like your account number and routing number from a checking or savings account
@Skizzerzs From my most recent experience getting a Y, Tesla pulled the money from my bank account the next day after I put my bank account info in
If I wanted to finance the full amount without putting anything down would I be able to do so? Or is a down payment required?
Hey Johnny yup so once you place the order and get to the finance section, you can adjust the down payment to whatever you want it to be from 0 to what you want to pay
@@CasualTeslaFan ahh okay I understand thank you.
@@MRiGOin23 Anytime!
Would it make your monthly payment more expensive
@@tylishacrawford9410 Without a downpayment, your monthly statement would ultimately be more expensive but it would save you from having to come out of pocket with large sums of money initially. The larger the down payment you put down on a vehicle, the less money that you’d have to finance.
Is this model roomy?!
Hey Shavon, it's def not comfortable in the back seats with 3 adults but works out for short rides. Would say it's about the same amount of room as most cars in it's class
