  • A group of British museums have begun a multimillion dollar campaign to keep thousands of items salvaged from the Titanic from falling into private hands at a bankruptcy auction. The effort is backed by filmmaker James Cameron and Robert Ballard, who discovered the sunken wreck on the Atlantic floor in 1985. Charlie D'Agata reports.

Artifacts should always be in museums. I know some rich people would like to buy this but still.

exactly. it should either be returned to the family, or in a museum.

Ballard needs to understand that if those artifacts aren't recovered then they'll be gone soon and the stories of those who died will forever remain unknown. You don't touch shoes or anything corpse related but as far as artifacts I think they should bring up as much as possible to save the stories and what happened

I disagree. We already have photos and videos of all the artifacts. Taking the stuff would be like grave robbing. Even if it isn’t clothing or anything, it still is. Some people are buried with gems and other things, and when those are taken, it’s considered grave robbing, so why isn’t it considered grave robbing here?

Yeah, I agree. I know that if I had died on the Titanic I would want my belongings to be recovered and put in a museum rather than just lost at the bottom of an ocean.

It’s disgusting that they want to earn money from this, rather than preserving these findings for the future to remember the people who lost their lives and history . I wish they sink to the bottom of the sea .

I went to the Titanic Museum in Pigeon Forge and I saw all these artifacts from the Titanic they has do go under water in one of those Remote Conrtol vehicles like James Cameron did and the other 3 people did and well I saw a part of the grand stair case and the plates and all kinds of stuff from the Titanic and it was real and I saw on the people who were on the Titanic and who died which is sad But still interesting but Rest in peace to all the familys who died and the animals because I love animals but I love all people and living things like animals equally the same:)

These items should be returned to either their family or a museum, not to some random people who are fortunate to have alot of money.

Sad and should remain in a museum instead of been in rich people's hands! Has anyone got an update on this please? I hope the museum got the lot for future generations to see! In private hands no one see these historical items.

If they were left where they were found, we wouldn't be having this discussion. This is a grave, not for public enjoyment. I find the whole thing disgusting. And James Cameron should have thought about this before he insisted on doing this film.

Taken out of context, they are otherwise perfectly normal items that just happened to be on a ship that became famous for sinking. It's not like they are one of a kind artworks that people would recognize and could never be replicated.

Seeing how you're hiding behind a picture of the most disgraceful president in American history, I'm not surprised by your comment. Would you like someone digging up one of your relatives grave if they knew there was something valuable inside?

Duane Brodnick At the same time, the people who spent money discovering the objects should get paid for it. Not sure how much though. I agree it should be in a museum, but which museum? It's more complicated than it seems.

They do not belong to anyone they belong to the people who die on the titanic so if they belong anywhere it back on the titanic as it class a grave rip to the people who lost their life’s on the titanic anyone who Took items from the titanic are grave robbers u do not need they belongings to see its called pictures and film footage of the titanic if anyone disagrees or went to leave nasty messages on what I said just think about it how would you feel if someone opened your grave and took your personal items that you were buried with you wouldn’t like it so show some respect the items do not belong to England they do not belong to America they belong and only belong to the people who were on the Titanic

Strange that they want to compare it to Pearl Harbor and Gettysburg. Also, the ship will be gone. And bodies aren’t there anymore.

But let me guess you have to pay to see the collection if the museum purchases it right? Therefore it is about money contrary to what the older gentleman said. It’s always about money. Ok purchase the collection for the museum but make the museum free to the public? No you won’t do it right ? EXACTLY you want money too.
