  • Victory Motorcycles has started a pilot program where the manufacturer is providing Harley-Davidson motorcycles to be test ridden back to back with various Victory Motorcycles.
    In this video, DSJR70 from TheVOG.net gives his opinions after riding both a 2010 Harley-Davidson Dyna Wide Glide and a 2011 Victory Vegas.

    It cracks me up when people always bring up the resale value of HDs. Some of us buy our bikes to ride the hell out of them, not to sell them..
    Admittedly, I have owned 2 Vics and love them. I think that Victory overall make better cycles than just about anyone.
    That being said, this video is a bit biased, and is purely subjective on most points.
    Ride what ever you want, they make a lot of bikes, choose one and ride.

      HD sounds better, better transmission, more stable at speed, better start up, better fit and finish, he liked the black paint on the engine better, better key position, has fork locks, etc. The only thing he liked better on the Vegas was the position of the kickstand and the design of the swing arm. “I still prefer the Vegas.” You’d think an editor would have caught that and made him come back in for adr to explain himself.

    I thought this was a Victory push but based on the conversation the Harley gets the nod over the Victory, even though he said he'd buy the Vegas, I guess he forgot that he actually preferred the Harley, lol. I considered the Victory but bought a slightly modified 2009 Harley Davidson Night Train and don't regret it, it's a keeper. Ride safe.

    Funny how the only complaints he has about the Harley are the signature Harley things. The shake, wide bike.

  • @canecorsodaddio

    This video is so funny. Thank you Victory for the free Harley ad! He spends the entire video saying he likes this and that better on the Harley. I'm not biased I like most bikes for one reason or another, but this is just not a well thought out video by the victory group. He basically said he likes the Harley better but would still buy a victory........? Brand loyalty is dumb, if you like one bike better than another........ride it and smile!

    • @pendragonshall
      @pendragonshall 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +canecorsodaddio I was thinking the same thing. What exactly besides the kickstand and lesser shake at below 40 did he like about the Harley. I basically heard the Harley performs better on the highway and is more comfortable etc etc.
      The only thing he didn't talk about was handling so I assume they were comparable. Sooo yea. What exactly was better on the Victory for him to choose it.. Like you said, brand loyalty??

    No one actually thought he was going to pick the Harley, right? It's a Victory commercial and he says in the beginning this will be his 4th Vegas. Even though he says he likes the transmission, braking, sound, and finishing touches better on the Harley. He should just tell us he's getting a discount for doing the video. Hahaha!

    Didn't matter to me what bike they liked, this was by far the best "talk" i've ever seen about 2 bikes. Most comparo vids are less than 3 minutes long and give you no clue as to which bike would be better. Engine heat, cable mounting,speedo mount....... thumbs up to reviewing stuff that really matters.

    • @tommoore9562
      @tommoore9562 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ha, that's kinda what I thought. The review seemed to be leaning toward the Harley, then the overall goes to the Vegas.
      But, on a different note, 8 years ago when I reached a point in my life when it was 'time to buy a Harley', I came home two weeks later with a Vegas. Tried again 6 months ago for a bagger/tour bike and came home with a Vision. Not many people set out to buy a Victory and come home with a Harley, but a lot of folks the past 15 years have set out to buy a Harley or other big V-twin and come home with a Victory. Their slogan 'ride one you'll own one' rings very true for me.

    I have owned both the Harley Dyna and the Victory Vegas.
    The major appeal for the Harley is the look, sound, and tradition. The major drawback on my Harley Dyna is the vibration of the engine.
    The major appeal for me on my Victory was the smooth engine and ride but the looks are lacking. I just find myself drawn to the classic Harley look.
    Both are nice bikes but I found myself using my Dyna more especially when riding with a group...The Harley is just more of a head turner and the sound is unmatched. The Harley with its thunderous sound just beckons you to ride it. It touches your soul in a way that the Victory just can't.

    Love the HD! I'd pick a Harley over any Victory anyday. I don't care about their shortcomings. HD has been around for 109 years so therefore must be doing something right. I don't know any other brand that has such a loyal brand following as HD does. I have ridden other brands as well but nothing compares to an HD ( in a very positive way ).HD's have indeed been copied but never duplicated. I think they're truly unique bikes a real household name.

    As a Victory owner I'm glad they're not trying to compare themselves to Harley anymore. Many of us wanted a big American cruiser that WASN'T a Harley. Nothing wrong with Harley's bikes, in fact many of them are awesome, but it seems like they have lost their focus. To me the Victory is more of a rider's bike where a Harley is a name first, much like a BMW or Mercedes. So you have your die hard HD guys and also a lot of poseur yuppie types just looking to show off how bad ass they are on the weekend. We Victory riders are the gearhead nerds trying to show how fast we can go (or how many miles we can go). In stock form the Victory does sound very much like a lawn mower as the HD sounds pretty awesome. I can see how some people could easily be persuaded. With pipes the Victory sounds like the hounds of hell as it should. Now that Polaris owns the Indian name and pretty much manufactures the same bikes with that name, I'm wondering if my Vic is going to be thrown to the scrap pile (as far as a name goes). I wonder if there will be a recall program to paint the Indian name on my Highball. Let's hope not.

      So you are saying anyone buying a Harley is a poser and the Victory buyer is not. Man grow up. You just refuse to admit that the majority of cruiser buyers buy Harley, consumer reports 48% of cruiser sales are Harley Davidsons. The rest of all the manufacturers make up the remainder. But if you cant do math then keep thinking the way you do. At any rate enjoy your bike but it makes you look foolish to trash talk other brands, that to me is the real poser, anyone that thinks their choice is the only choice. ride safe.

    @MrClanCularius Exactly. I used to ride a Vulcan VN800A. Beautiful bike, great handling (for a cruiser), brakes that actually work and great performance for 800cc. I always ran rings around my buddies on their Fat Boys. Still: Every time I rode with those Harleys, I always envied them their engines' character. Start-up/idle-sound, the "clonk" from the gearbox .. The Kawa's V2 just seemed soul-less in comparison. That's why if I get another (cruiser)-bike, I'd always go with the Harley.

    Interesting comparison. The Victory has a modern sweeping look to it. Cool but not for everyone. I love the Wide Glide, but it has the 103 A Motor in it. If they put the 103 B motor in, it would be a better bike IMHO. The A motors bounce on the rubber mounts shaking the hell out of the bike. That is why the gauges are on the tank, you would never be able to read them on the bars. But I guess that is what most HD people want.

    I just purchased my 5th Harley and plan to add another before the end of the year. To me nothing with an engine looks better, sounds better, or feels better than a air cooled Harley v-twin. I wouldn't mind owning a victory cross roads as my third or fourth bike but I would never trade my Harley for one. Victory, triumph, and Kawasaki all make really nice bikes and I wouldn't mind owning one of each.

      So did you get a chance to ride a Victory and a Harley? You should compare Indian and Harley both are better than the Victory. I tried all three and the Indian and Harley were comparable, but the Victory was nice also but a noticeable vibration that the Indian and Harley didnt have. Buy what you like and by the way, pricing is close.

      Dragan M while I was riding the victory I also felt a little extra vibration so I rode a harlydavison fatboy S and a indian chef vintage. I found both the harley davidson and indian to be more to my liking. I think I am going to pick the Fatboy S because it felt like I could move it around easier and also I like the gloss black look it has.

    • @draganm7823
      @draganm7823 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Madcatdave good choice, the S has more power. it's always best to be your own judge because these Victory videos are crappie and biased. I mean this in a nice way....told you so. I bought an 09 Night Train with a stage 1 kit, and was problem free. both the Indian and Harley are a good choice, in my opinion the Indian is for older folks lol. another good option is the Harley Breakout. I drove one this summer with the 103 ci and liked it but I felt it needed a little more power. I'm 5'7" and I loved the riding position better than any other cruiser except maybe for the V Rod that is a close 2nd for riding position.good luck with whatever you choose.

      +jojojeep1 No, but with Victory's forward thinking (as oppossed to the 80+ year old technology of a Harley), I wouldn't be surprised if they did!

      victory is a better running bike, but I'm true to my bike, it's never let me down, I'm sure if it were a shovel head I'd be fixing on it all the time. with me I love the shovel, and I love the pan and the knuckle the older the better, if I was to do some long mile runs, maybe just maybe I would get something with more technology . safe riding brother.

      I love Harley, to be honest. Always have. I've test drove pretty much all the Dynas, Softails and even a couple of Touring bikes in the last 6 weeks. I'm going to be deciding and purchasing a new bike in January.
      There is no denying it... Harley has soul. Their technology has improved greatly, and of course their styling is (IMO) the best.
      I've just starting to look at the Victory's lately... but haven't test drove one though. This all is going to make my final decision all the harder.
      There's one thing that I do know. My next bike is going to be American.
      Ride safe bro.

      good luck , look it's the man on the bike , not the bike under the man, I just let go of my warrior 1700 with a lot of custom touches on it, I have all types of bikes I just like my trouble child so I kind of stick with the older Harleys, no computers no wires no sensors, just two pistons and a carb.

      +solomyngrundy1968 . Harley Davidson is a piece of crap too bad . Did you see how the Harley was vibrating like crazy . Imagine you ride 500 miles when you go to bed tuck under the cover you still feel your hands vibrating like a hammer on a construction site . I don't want arthritis oh no .

    Well of course, if it's a "HONEST" video comparison from Victory Owners Group, between a Victory and a Harley, WELL, surprise of course the guy is going to take the money and say that he would pick the Vic over the Harley. That victory is hideous in my opinion, as far as I'm concerned the only VTWIN in this video is that of a Harley.

    Well I can say that I own a 08 HD Dyna Street Bob and it's for sale. I am considering a Victory for my next bike mainly because Victory has just come out with the Hi-Ball and that's the look I really want! In order to get that old school bobber look from Harley I would have to downgrade a bit from a Dyna to the Sportster Forty-Eight and then spend thousands to modify it to look like I want. It's going to be a tough decision as I love HD.

    Victory did make some excellent bikes...but all vic owners would be sick right now! That dyna can still go to any Harley dealer and get serviced...u may be able to get the Vic serviced at an Indian dealer...but if not, good luck finding sm1 to work on it if, and when it breaks down!

    He said in the beginning he preferred the Vegas. It wasn't as lopsided as you made it out to be. Some items just get weighted differently. For instance, the freedom 106 for me spanks the annoying big twin hands down. The wide glide also has an annoying kickstand and the tank gages are also not preferred and also noted in the video. It's all preference and opinion. I'd ride a 1200 custom long before an ultra. My preference. YMMV

    Well I had a 2011 Wide Glide with the same paint as this one, it got stolen within my first year of owning it (even with the fork lock locked) I guess crooks found the Wide Glides desirable. I replaced it with a 2012 Wide Glide that I still own and ride today. I obviously prefer the WG and took it touring a few times. Found I really like to tour, so I ended up adding a 2017 StreetGlide Special. People who rag on Harleys just because... are exactly like Harley owners who rag on other bike makes just because... If you are on two wheels and we pass while out an about, I'll wave to you no matter what bike you are riding. Its all motorcycles to me.

    I judge a motorcycle on FUN factor, not which one has the most technology. Not a brand loyalist but so far I find Harley Davidson the most FUN. Of course I have a 2002 dyna wide glide with a carburetor so it still has the " old harley" soul.

    Steering locks, the Victory has two holes that line up on full left lock to put a big ass padlock in it. Yeah you have to carry the padlock but that is way stronger than a steering lock.

    went to a motorcycle expo. checked out the victory and liked them. went home to look for a dealership. there were no dealerships that dealt purely victory. they sold snowmobiles, jetskis, sportbikes, quads, and victory. i have a harley and am not a slave to the brand (don't own a single piece of harley clothing), but the dealership gave me pause. i like that the guys who on my harley do nothing but harleys, that the dealer sells nothing but harleys? any victory riders have any thoughts?

    Can't get an unbiased opinion from a dude that owns three Vegas model Victory bikes. Go figure. I rode two models of Vegas (8 ball and Judge) before deciding to buy my Super Glide. The one factor that swayed my decision most was the "not sounding like a industrial floor polisher" factor. I love my Harley. 'Nuff said.

    So Timmy if I am a brand new bike maker my motors must be 6 valve, ice cream cooled, inline 5 cylinders right? Because 2,3,4 and 5 valves per cylinder; air,oil, and water cooling and single cylinder, v-twin, inline 2,3,4 and 6 cylinders have all been done on bikes before. This is what I MUST DO, if I don't want to copy anyone elses hard work that is...right?

    Pretty good real world comparison video. The Victory owner liked the H-D in almost all respects better than the Vic, yet he would buy the Victory - huh??? Because he can operate the kickstand easier and likes the fork mounted speedo? That just doesn't add up.

    8 balls aren't bad looking, highball is really cool looking. I've ridden pretty much everything, Victory included, rode all the Harley models, never a wide glide but a street bob. Ill say this...for me personally, I like when a bike has a character and personality, the only bikes that I have ever ridden that have "spoke" to me, were BMW Airheads, and Harley Dynas and Road Kings. I rode the Vics, and I really really wanted to like them, but...they felt very robotic to me. souless.

    Realistically though fit wise would probably be more appropriate to compare the fxdl that also includes adjustable seat and risers. Not a harley that's more built for larger people, by that I mean above 5"8.
