  • Sorry for the wind noise at the beginning; SDG&E shut down the power because of the high winds to help prevent wildfires. The timing was so good we had to get up there to get a video since we had just commissioned the system the evening before.
    You can call Dave directly at 619-333-4824 ext. 3000 if you have any questions about the system and how you can keep the lights on. Or, you can visit:

    Dave I was surprised to find this video. What a great job, we are enjoying our solar especially because of the spa. Thanks. I have made a couple of referrals and will continue to do that . Keep up the good work.

    Why did they mount the batteries in the garage? That takes up room inside the garage. Can't these be mounted outside?

    • @mysolhome
      @mysolhome  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You might notice the wall with the rest of the equipment was full, so the owners requested to put the batteries in the garage. And yes, they are rated for outdoor installation as well.

    • @JasonAndrade427
      @JasonAndrade427 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They can be mounted outside but it is suggested not to install them in direct sunlight.

    Is generator “tap” (Encharge battery backup) now available for this Ensemble configuration?

    • @mysolhome
      @mysolhome  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not that I know of.

    • @ChuckD59
      @ChuckD59 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I understand you, I think this is being done elsewhere on YT where a Generac is on standby to recharge if the solar can't keep up. I also am on track or an Ensemble system, upstate NY, and am very interested in the idea of a portable generator I could jack in as needed to recharge.
      edit: See Switch Electric YT channel. Enphase with a Generac (and four Enphase 10k batteries!)

    By the way, I thought that IQ8 Enphase inverters were still in beta i.e. not in mass production (as of Fall 2020). Was this a beta install or are they available for anyone to purchase now?

    • @mysolhome
      @mysolhome  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They are only being shipped with the Encharge batteries currently.

    In California, for a single family home, would you know what is the maximum resiliency SGIP rebate you can get with enphase batteries? For example, can you get enphase 40(4x10) and get a $1/watt rebate(ie 40k rebate)? Listening to some SGIP resiliency webinars, it sounds like it matters how often the battery cycles(52x/yr). So as an installer, do you keep track the batteries you've installed and track the amount they cycle?

    • @nicksgarage2
      @nicksgarage2 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd like to know about the SGIP rebates as well. It's so confusing. I live in Ramona, CA and my elderly parents live with me with medical equipment but it seems I'm outside the shutdown areas that qualify for the top rebate. Battery systems just don't make financial sense for me otherwise but would give me great peace of mind for my parent's safety as shutdowns seem to happen when I'm away from home.

      @@nicksgarage2 Type in your zip code in this map:

    Do you have any project that uses battery only w/o solar panel? Also, can Enphase be used as a "UPS back-up" for computer equipment?

    • @mysolhome

      Not yet. And yes, this system is UPS back up compatible as far as I know.

  • @nicksgarage2
    @nicksgarage2 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Were they able to get a SGIP rebate for that system? I'm in Ramona but seem to be just outside the area that qualifies for people with medical needs in a fire area.

    • @mysolhome
      @mysolhome  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The short answer is yes. SGIP Can get complicated however.

    did you install consumption CT monitors by Enphase on this system? If so where did you install them? I have the same meter box and the installer said they would not fit.

    • @mysolhome
      @mysolhome  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They go in the main meter panel next to the main breaker. There are similar looking panels that are not compatible with the CTs.

    • @nicksgarage2
      @nicksgarage2 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have what looks to be the same main panel and my CTs are installed in there. It was a tight fit but they work. I got them when I upgraded to the newer IQ microinverters.

    Holy guacamole
    That's easily in the range of $100k for the solar loan.
    $100k spread out evenly pays for utility power for 29 years, at $295/month. ( that's assuming cost of power remains within reasonable margins throughout the years )

    • @mysolhome
      @mysolhome  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s actually quite a bit less than that, especially when you consider the 26% federal tax credit.

      @@mysolhome perhaps a bit less
      Depends on factors
      Azimuth, site shading, tilt...

  • @GioSinatraFan

    So I'm learning through misrepresentations of salespeople so to speak. I have a 200a panel in my house, and I am contracted for 18.4KW solar system with 20KW encharge system and was told my whole house is backed up, but then when the guy for the roof inspection came out he said uh, no your whole house is NOT backed up with the batteries. In fact much of it wasn't. Then the company told me I need to spend either 3k for an upgraded panel or 11k for a third battery to eliminate the need for the new panel and that the third battery should in fact back up the whole house. But then I see in this video that even with 3 batteries, this guy's house is still not 100% covered under battery power. Help me understand this? Am I working with snake oil salesmen?

    • @mysolhome
      @mysolhome  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on a lot of factors like what appliances you want to be able to run off grid and for how long. Each scenario is different. Where are you located?
