- An enthusiastic longtail boatman shows off the blistering speed of his engine on a canal in western Thailand.
Manop Ruaprasert, 25, took his boat onto a canal in Ratchaburi and showed off the extreme speed and manoeuvrability of his craft, as well as his skill and reflexes as a boatman.
He bought the wooden body of the boat then modified it by attaching a 1-litre car engine which is more powerful than the standard 150cc drag racing engines.
Manop's boat, which he modified himself, can reach speeds of more than 100kmh. He started for fun when he was in his late teens.
The canals in central Bangkok can’t be used for motorboats but on the outskirts, where passenger canal boats aren’t used, they can be. They’re easy to navigate as they’re straight and flat.

that is the turbocharger. it is essentially very similar to a jet engine being driven off of the exhaust to feed more air into the engine.
There are river racing boats that use gas turbines for power, piston engines are cool and all but the turbines got them beat.

That is not a 1Liter engine, they use 3L Isuzu diesel engines with big turbos for 400+ power, and he is beyound 100km/h by far.

@@booboi4050 not necessarily. It will just accelerate quickly. Without some type of 2 speed transmission it won't be able to beat a gas. Because of RPM. Even a high performance diesel will most likely redline at 7000rpm. You can get gas engines that rev to 12000rpm. Which will turn the prop much faster=a faster boat. Many people don't understand this lol.

2. most of them uses holset turbos with 60+psi of boost
3. they go 200+ km/h, it's a racing boat, you can reach 100km/h easily with a couple yamaha outboards...

I loved it when he held the tiller down with the prop out of the water, raced it up to get it the boost up, then held it wide open stood up and pulled the tiller up shoving the prop in the water to get a bite, and he was gone.
I used a spectrum analyzer app to measure that motor roaring up to about 182Hz.
182 exhaust pulses per second. Divide by 4 cylinders. 45.5 pulses per cylinder per second.
Multiply by 2 because a 4-stroke fires every other rotation. 91 revolutions per second.
Multiply by 60 to get revolutions per minute. 5460RPM.
That's a hot rod diesel!

I was at this very canal in sengelek, western thailand, near bangkok. Brought my radar equipment with me trying to monitor a new record as there were several other folks with long tails trying to get top speed runs. This specific fellow topped 108mph on this very craft.

Generally when they say descriptions about a video I think well this is going to be fake. Or at least exaggerated. But watching that water tower quickly disappear and how fast things were going by, I actually think 60 miles an hour was an understatement. I've raced a lot of motorcycles and four wheelers Etc, and that looked a lot faster than 60 miles an hour to me. Good engineering from those guys.

I did some speedboat this year, but you feel confident in the high tech, brand new, specifically design boat. That thing looks like a reliant Robin LS Swapped and the dude is going faster than most cars on highways.
I kept thinking the video was sped up, then I realized it wasn’t... This guy is no amateur, he’s the king of that river no doubt!
I've seen this video before, and I never thought it was sped up until today. I'm quite certain it is now. When he's at full speed, listen to the way the exhaust and turbo sound when he lets off and hits it again. It reacts WAY faster than it normally does. I'm going to do a little research, but I'm convinced this video is sped up. Both sound and video show signs of it.
I'm not saying it's slow. It's a fast boat, I'm sure. But I don't think this was a completely transparent video.

The nice thing about the longtail's long tail is that it acts like a drogue chute when he comes off the throttle. This should provide significant directional stability on braking.
