- Let's talk propane...
Cold weather is already here, which means RV propane is a must-have for us. This week, we're tackling a new upgrade - a bluetooth-controlled propane sensor from Mopeka. We're so excited to be able to INSTANTLY check our propane tanks, and we were happy that it was such an easy install.

What do you guys think of this upgrade?! We're excited!! ❤
A couple tips for the sensors, every now and then the sensor will get jostled or bumped by whoever is refilling the tank and I'll have to readjust the sensor, so I just keep a small thing of dielectric grease on hand with my tools.
Once you get them centered and level, take a sharpie and trace around them. That way, when you have to reposition them, you can get them right the first try instead of having to readjust in a few times in the freezing cold (that's always when it gets jostled).
Your tanks were apparently more flat on the bottom than mine, my sensor wouldn't sit flat. For anyone who runs into that problem, I cut a few tiny strips of duct tape and layered them to make 3 little feet on the sensor so it sit nicely on the tanks. Just make sure you don't make them too thick and move the sensor farther from the tank. But once I got them to sit there without rocking they're stayed very well. They don't slide or come off in travel, even with some of the construction I've driven through that made the inside of the camper look like a tornado hit.
Thanks so much for the tips!
I don't have the Mopeka Pro but have been using the older Mopeka sensors for over 6 years and love them.
Good to know! So far so goof for us.
Tremendous video Mike and Stephanie... so comprehensive and professional. Excellent job! Happy and Safe Travels... Team Mopeka
I"ve been using the Mopeka system for the last 4 years and they have worked great. The only thing I need to do is once a year change out the battery in each one.
Good to know! Thanks, Scott!
As someone else mentioned, get a tube of dielectric grease. Each time I have to refill tanks, I don’t carry the sensor since they might fall off or the person refilling the tanks sets it down on something potentially damaging the sensor. Then clean all the old grease off and add a bit of new grease.
Same rv and I installed the monitor exactly in the same location. It’s been great for two years.
Good to know! Thank you!
I've been using these for close to a year, now, they're great. I picked up the wifi bridge too (Christmas gift actually) so even when I'm not in the camper I can see how much propane is left and get notifications even when I'm away or don't have the app open. I sometimes do short trips away from the camper, to visit friend and family, and in the winter the peace of mind from knowing my furnace isn't about to run out of propane and let everything freeze is a big worry off my shoulders. The halo rings are also very nice when I'm putting the tanks in my truck bed.
I also put on one of their water tank sensors several weeks ago when I dropped the underbelly to install tank heaters. It's much more accurate than the normal tank sensors, until it gets down to about 1/3. For some reason, the sensor usually won't read the water level below about 30% and just stays at about 30%. But overall, I've been quite happy with it.
I saw on their website they sell sensors for other tanks. Good to know they work well! Thanks for watching!
Oh, and speaking of propane, and in this case conserving it, I picked up an induction hotplate a few months ago, mainly to reduce the amount of waste heat I was putting out into the camper in the middle of summer. It's such a difference. The AC no longer kicks on every time I use the stove, I don't have to worry about CO2 or carbon monoxide, and it saves a TON of propane. I'll bet I get an extra day, maybe 2, out of a propane tank this winter. The little one I picked up even has 3 wattage options so if I'm boondocking on a 15 amp connection or using another appliance (like the dehumidifier) I can just run it at a lower power setting. It's turned out to be one of the best camper purchases I've made, which I really didn't expect.
We love the halo rings! We are thinking about upgrading to these new sensors, great review!
Hey, guys! So far so good. We should've done this years ago 😆
We say things like that all the time!@@lifererouted
Great tip my friends!
Thank you! Hope you're doing well!! ❤️
Thank you for the great information.
Our pleasure! ❤️
Bought the kit earlier this year. Couldn't figure out why I would need those halo things. I'm buying a set now. :)
I had to look into it. I kept seeing people had them installed and couldn't figure out why 😆
I don’t think ours are the pros but we’ve used them the last two years and love them!!! I’ve thought about us changing our propane tanks to 30 but we usually camp in campgrounds that sell propane. We haven’t boondocked any yet and don’t think we will. I like having full hookups. Thanks for sharing. God bless.
That's good to hear that you love them! We've held off on getting them for so long, but we're excited to finally have them. Thanks!
Another great video. Very informative. Need to get some for our gas grill and fireplace. Love you.
Thank you! You guys should get some ❤
Now that sounds like a good upgrade, especially when you use as much propane as you do living full-time in your home on wheels, We don't use that much propane due to having a 12v frig so just the stove and heater is usually used. I did receive my Banana bungee just a few minutes ago and have it hanging in the kitchen doin it's job .... stay safe out there and we'll look forward to the next one.
Thx
Larry
We're excited! Should be a great way to check our propane. Love the banana bungee!
We need one of these for our tanks! Thanks for the information.
Yes you guys do! Thank you 😊 💓
Great idea. Hope it works well. Stay safe.
Thank you! Us too 😊
I think these sensors would be good for us at home and with the trailer. It’s fairly common for my husband to run out of propane in the middle of cooking dinner at home.
That sounds like a good idea!
Good stuff, thanks kids!
Er, I mean, 2/10 needs more Khali.
Hey, I just wanted to tell you that was just for you! I didn't want you to worry about her! 😆
@@lifereroutedAw shucks, thank you! \o/
I hope works out while rolling down the road. 🙏
Me too! Thank you!
Have you thought about getting an automatic dual tank regulator? When one tank is empty it will switch to other tank & you don’t have to get up & switch tanks.
Oh interesting, I don't know if we knew they made those! That would definitely be nice to not have to worry about switching over the tanks!
We ordered ours from amazon. No big deal to install.
We have this too. And love it. My daughter installed ours very easy.
Awesome! 😊
Screws in the cabinetry 😱
Use command strips
We usually do!
So we have two 20 lb tanks and we just purchased one of the pro sensors and haven’t installed it yet. We usually have one to two trips per month during the warmer months and a bit less when it’s colder. I’m trying to get a feel for the durability of these sensors so my question is, do you leave the sensors on your tanks year around, or do you leave them on for the season, or do you take them off between trips? And also do you have a sensor for each tank or do you move one sensor between tanks as they empty?
the metal stand off that are provided suck. they fall off every time i take the tanks on/off. will be ordering the rings. did not know such a thing existed.
I wasn't sure why I kept seeing the rings. It all makes sense now! 😆
