Fiammas role in artificially creating Malice for others (and himself ironically) was quite sinister. Usually Index villains are results of smaller or bigger tragedies of some sort that shape their ideals but Fiamma was straight up just a lonely person that was born special and has at some point completely brainwashed himself into taking the role of god since no one else stepped up.It's interesting because the narrative proposes the idea that if at some point a great hero or a great "oppressor" had appeared to influence the world globally, Fiamma may not have even wanted to "save" the world. Meaning his reason for wanting to save the world was the lack of salvation itself both in religious and natural context which is such backward evil thinking. We are in GT3 and and no villain has surpassed Fiamma in my opinion .
Looking back on it, its very cleaver that Touma and Aleister are the ones to beat Fiamma. With Touma having Dragons and Aleister magic name being best 666 which were symbols of The Devil and Satan in Chastity but if we look at it from Gnosticism viewpoint, Fiamma is playing the role of Demiurge, an evil insane fake God who tried to create a world in his viewpoint and would get rid of anyone who didn't follow its ideals. Touma/Aleister is playing the role of Satanaeal (Satan's angel name) a being who find out that Demiurge was evil and a fake, granted humanity the knowledge to liberate themselves from Demiurge so people could live happily with free will and learn from their mistakes. This very same storyline is used in the climax of Persona 5.
I thought Index III being a bad adaption was an exaggeration at first, but now I read the manga adaptation for these arcs and damn, it's so much better, I hope the manga can at least give Fiamma the treatment he deserves
Ngl I didn’t view Fiamma as someone as evil as you represented him in the video before, but considering the similarities of the dictators and Fiamma and how they think their way will lead to the "perfect" world you kind of opened my eyes.
Finally a villain who does not need an interesting background to be appealing. This shows you can give a villain interesting goal and motive that logical make sense even though it cannot be justified to make the villain appealing
Touma saving Fiamma is what a true christian does. Forgiving his enemies. Something most people are not able to do. It's a powerful act. That's why I like the character of Touma (for the most part). you made a great video explaining why Fiamma is the most Evil Character in the series.
Fiamma most evil? No. As much as I like Othinus, she was #1 in that category. No one else, even came close to that level as selfishness or evil. I know she did it due to being hated by everyone and that she suffered more than we humans could ever imagine, but she was still the most evil villain in the series.

I really like how in index most villains are only villains because of a conflict of interest and even those, that have clearly evil intentions can find redemption later on instead of being dropped on the roadside. I just slightly disagree with fiamma being the most evil, because in his core believes he still wanted to do good, he was severely mistaken about how to go about it, which made him actually evil. But there are some charakters in the story, that in fiammas position would do the same amount of harm, just for their own interest, clearly knowing that they are committing evil and not even bothering with it. I think this just stems from a difference in opinion about what an evil person is and my definition also disqualifies coronzon and aleister as the most evil.
Yes he did want to do good but went about the totally wrong way of doing it. But as I've said in the video, just wanting to do good doesn't necessarily mean it is good. I do believe Kamachi wrote him as someone with good intentions. The premise of saving the world is a noble idea, but honestly it is unrealistic to achieve (which was why Fiamma believed he needed more power to get there, despite him being so strong). It is only really achievable via tyranny and violence, as Fiamma showed through his actions. Fiamma justifies horrendous actions simply because of this one good premise on paper. But the reality is far from saving the world, the world would be ruined.
@@AeonofHorus I think our values here are different, when i evaluate a charakter as good or evil my biggest concern is not what they are doing, but what causes them to do it that is for me far more important. There are just too many charakters that try to do good but are either misguided or dont know any better. So for me any charakter that causes harm out of selfishness will always be more evil than someone that at least tries to do good even if his approach is evil.

They were people consumed by ideology and their own beliefs that they committed such inhumane acts believing it was for the greater good. Then your two examples are distinctly different from fiamma. Hitlers ideology was never designt to do good, but to put germany in a position of power, at all costs. Stalin on the other hand turned traitor to his ideology, the philosophical ideal of communism does state that everyone should be the same including the leader. That means the moment he started to set himself apart from the masses and secured his position of power with violence he acted purely from selfish intentions not out of his ideology. That is s if fiamma would suddenly start using his power to rule the world and silence everyone with a differing opinion. Also if stalin gave up his position after seeing that it doesnt work, i dont think he would be considered evil. Fiamma on the other hand stopped after realizing, it does not work that way. Fiamma feels. Like one of those villains who should bit be redeemed but just like every other villain in this series,he gets an underserved redemption. I understand the message of redemption but having every villain in this series get a redemption is just ridiculous.
That’s not necessarily true. Amata, Terra, Oriana, Coronzon, Thor and more have never had a redemption arc. I kinda touch upon the fact that a lot of the antagonists turn good after their defeat in my LN review but it honestly makes them more compelling characters than ones who stay the same without changing their perspective or goals. I don’t think Fiamma was truly redeemed either, Touma just saves everyone regardless of what they have done. Ollerus had to hide him as Fiamma was a war criminal. Sure Fiamma was opposed to Gremlin as he wanted to support Touma’s ideals, but I wouldn’t say Fiamma was ever truly ‘redeemed’.
Yeah, except most those villains either didn't get much screen time to begin with or were treated as not that bad by narrative which is what redemption does and is what people don't like about it. Also creating a compelling character has little to with their morals.

Old Testament (OT) is the first light novel series of Index. The three anime seasons of Index (Index I, II and III) cover the entirety of OT. New Testament (NT) is the second or sequel light novel series to OT Index, so Index season 4 should cover NT.

I mean he doesn’t care about god that much and he doesn’t really care about religion, but an atheist is someone who thinks god isn’t real at all, so the fact his imagine breaker dispels the Miracles of god should let him know god exist, then there’s the fact he lots his memory, sadly I’m anime only, but as I see it, I don’t think he has said he is an atheist who believes beyond a shadow of a doubt there isn’t a God. Perhaps I could have worded that better. What I mean is that he’s not religious/not a Christian. His belief in the Christian god has never been clear, although due to the nature of the magic side he might think there is one. Touma is actually accepting of some religious concepts like there being a heaven. In Academy City though religion isn’t really allowed or plays little role at all due to Aleister’s influence and science becoming a sorta pseudo religion there. So Touma is a contrast to Fiamma in that regard. That’s what I meant by that.
While I do agree that fiamma was down played in the anime there still is some scenes that show how badass and evil he is (I do agree that the way they portrayed the fight between him and touma is pretty boring)

While I do agree that fiamma was down played in the anime there still is some scenes that show how badass and evil he is
