We camped in a lot of amazing places on this trip and it would be difficult to pick a favorite, but I think this spot - with the beautiful river and the soaring cliffs - was near the top of my list. My video series will hit this location at 7am this Saturday. ;-) Really nice episode Jason...very much enjoyed the thoughtful poetic voiceover and seeing drone footage of places I only saw from the ground. :-)
My family first arrived in the Idaho Owyhees in the 1890s and it amazes me what the lure of free land caused some people to do. Homesteaders carved out homes 50-60 miles by horseback or buckboard to the nearest settlement or stage station. With their backs and hands, they built stone-lined roads down cliffs to a riverside homestead. They built rock fences, corrals, houses, bunkhouses, and stage stations next to any water source they could find. Just imagine how labor-intensive building these stone structures by hand would be. Water was the key to everything and yet many of them carved out an existence in a land that receives less than 12" of rain per year, 70 MPH winds, and grueling heat/cold in the summers/winters. Some of the weathered old homesteads we explore today didn't make it and the land was returned to the federal government, but many survived and are now a part of a larger ranch (homestead).

Amazing vieuw! Awesome! I am a Dutch and have been following this channel for a while (and a half ...😁). Keep up the great work you are doing! And..... Thanks for sharing this with us!
I enjoyed your comment about not having internet or phone and just your daily chores to fill your time. I enjoyed it with a little chuckle because years ago I was sent out there to install a dish that’s used to provide satellite based internet. Since there isn’t “regular” electricity they used a generator to provide power so I could “tune” the dish properly first with my meter then by testing the signal at the modem inside. While not quite the same as the internet connection most of us enjoy at home or even the internet we use on our phones sometimes with just a cell signal it did provide a way for the people working there to have some contact with the “outside world” lol. At first I felt that it kind of spoiled the remoteness and solitude or isolation of the place. But then they explained to me that it wasn’t “on” all the time, only for a short while at the end of the day and it meant they could be reached with an email that they easily replied to rather than having someone either drive all the way out there or if necessary someone would arrive by helicopter both of which disrupted their solitude far more than a simple email every so often. It also allowed certain people to go out there for weeks at a time that previously might only been able to be gone for days or a week at most. Until you posted this video which “jogged” my memory I had completely forgotten about going out there all those years ago lol. So thanks for giving me back a memory that was until now gone, lost to father time. I did so many super remote installations back then that they all sort of blurr together anymore lol. It looks as beautiful as ever and the trees have grown so much in the last 20 years or so. It was definitely one of those places that just fills you with nostalgia for a time that was actually way before you were even born lol. I don’t know any other way to describe it. I suppose it’s kind of like when people spend a week or two on horseback doing an old school cattle drive. Not that I want 2 million visitors to show up and wreck the place but it is definitely a place to consider visiting some day if you are into overlanding. I’m now contemplating making a trip out there lol. See what you’ve done to me! lol you keep reminding me of how much I enjoy being outdoors and doing a bit of wandering about myself lol. As much as I enjoy good company and every so often get talked into doing something as part of a large group I’m still more of an introvert and enjoy time spent with just one or two good friends if not just by myself.
Your videos stir up an emotion in me, I can't explain. Maybe its a longing to see what you see or just awe of the beautiful countryside. The scenery in that final drone orbit took my breath away. Thank you.
Jest another day on the ranch! I could not even imagine, waking up to that view every day! Like heaven, but the work must have been, hell! thank you stay safe
Man! I love this guy and his talent for filmography. Thank you Jason for giving us all the opportunity to see these beautiful places, along with your voiceover stories, they are the best. I love Donald, and Edward, and Chads channels too. Great work and safe travels to you. Kind regards, Mario 🇦🇺
Just discovered you, and enjoyed the part of the Bend to Alvord trip. As Central Oregonians, and having yet to visit the Alvord, we enjoyed the bit of trip we got to see. Definitely need to make our way out there. Thank you for sharing the beautiful scenery.
I am looking forward to a time I get to follow on your tire tracks. The fun thing is it will be so different when I go just because it always is. But I have already fallen in love with this landscape.
Congratulations! It's nice to see hard work, interesting content, and great videography pay off. My golden calls this "The Daisy Channel." She wants to see even more of Daisy.
Great video Jason..I just love eastern Oregon. My buddy and I are planning a trip to explore the owahee River canyon this summer. He's got the short drive because he moved near Boise! We will explore it in side by sides. Your videos are the best although Donald's are okay.. take care brother thank you
Not being from this area it's great to follow along on maps and see where you are and make waypoints for future possibilities. Gorgeous country and great production. Keep em coming Jason, we enjoy every one of them.
That’s beautiful country ain’t been over there myself since I was probably 14 I’m 42 now so I need to make a road trip thanks for bringing back memories Jason always enjoy your vids you travel all the places I used to enjoy with my old man as a young boy.
Thank you for this very outstanding video. The camera and drone work were great and I really enjoyed your narration. The wildlife, lava, ranch and the general scenery were a joy to watch.
The stunning scenery! I want to visit that old ranch. It looks peaceful. When the sunlight hits the cliffs and change the light, a thousand different photographic possibilities..
What a breathtaking video, and that ranch! Just a little slice of heaven on earth. I almost expected to see you run into Josey Wales when you were scoping out the barn.
Beautiful work capturing the scenery of that canyon and area in general. When I was out there at the Davis ranch with Rich - I remember not really believing my eyes when we finally rolled up to the edge of the canyon.
This was an especially beautiful episode. The look around the historic ranch was a bonus. We appreciate the care and craft you put into the production of these vignettes. Ramble On
Absolutely loving this series Jason. It is so well done in so many ways it’s difficult to explain. The views, the footage showing the “road” you were on, the pit stops to look at and explore the rock enclosures, to the voice over mixed with commentary with plenty of detail yet leaving us to ponder a bit on our own. I’ve also been watching Donald’s posts and while he does a good job filming his voice over can be a bit flowery or poetic for my taste. As always you have managed to put together a fine video that you should be proud of. Cheers
I spent some time Cow Lakes next to Jordan Craters last summer, there wasn't a soul nearby - pretty awesome place. A lot of people don't see the desert as a beautiful place, but it's got a lot to it.
6:00 I know that corral and line cabin. It had 3 bunks and you cooked outside. Just barely enough for three men and their bindles. it was used mostly in the winter for winter range.
There recently was a ranch up for sale on the lower south fork of the Owyhee. 500 +/- acres. With its own airstrip. $1 million. I can only dream.....Enjoyed all of your vids from this trip. Hoping to do more exploring there this year!
We visited Birch Creek Ranch a few years ago while camping a Succor Creek. The road down into the canyon is not for the faint of heart. Next week we head to the area around Leslie Gulch. We will be looking for big horn sheep, and wild horses. Have you been to Devils' Garden east of Bend? The road into the center is similar to that of Jordon Craters.
Really enjoying this series. This part of Oregon has been on my bucket list for a long time, and I am getting great previews of the landscape. Hope to make it there summer of '22.

The area at the end with the ranch was absolutely beautiful , the Color’s and the setting was perfect and the accompanying music was brilliant .
Really beautiful and quiet ranch. Wish I could camp out there for a couple of nights. Man, Oregon has countless of hidden gems!

damn what a view there at the end, unreal!
Jason, I think you would have loved to live there in the day! Youre a hard worker and dog lover!!

This ranch has been on our list for like 2 years. Beautifully executed video. Now we will definitely have drop by this location sometime this year.

At the ranch your voice is drowned out by the music. It is a beautiful film all other times.
6:00 I know that corral and line cabin. It had 3 bunks and you cooked outside. Just barely enough for three men and their bindles. it was used mostly in the winter for winter range.
