It will be a complete disaster if a Mario film pretends to be deep and even attempts to give you some sort of a lecture on life.
It's just a superficial kid's movie. Adults shouldn't even be giving their opinion on it. But frankly if you allow your child to become obsessed with these "iconic" characters and brands purely intended to make money, you aren't a good parent. Get them to read a book for god's sake.
It was a mediocre film, and should never be above criticism. Even for a kids movie. Puss in Boots TLW blew it completely out of the water. There's no excuse for how mediocre the film was, especially not 'its for kids.' But people jizzed themselves over it because memberberries. Brand recognition is not a substitute for decent writing, acting, etc.

@@theraymunator I been a fan since 1989, and went into this film with low expectations. Objectively I thought it was a decent film. The mix of the US Brooklyn Mario with Nintendo’s world was done well, the visual style, how Bowser was straight out of the manga was nicely done. Peach was out of character for me when it comes to her voice, and some of her mannerism, like a 90s US cartoon girl power personality, but from a marketing view I see why they did it to appeal to the Western audiences. Over all from a critical view, not counting references to games the film made, it was good. Thing is not one thing is made for everyone.

It will be a complete disaster if a Mario film pretends to be deep and even attempts to give you some sort of a lecture on life.
It's just a superficial kid's movie. Adults shouldn't even be giving their opinion on it. But frankly if you allow your child to become obsessed with these "iconic" characters and brands purely intended to make money, you aren't a good parent. Get them to read a book for god's sake.
It was a mediocre film, and should never be above criticism. Even for a kids movie. Puss in Boots TLW blew it completely out of the water. There's no excuse for how mediocre the film was, especially not 'its for kids.'
But people jizzed themselves over it because memberberries.
Brand recognition is not a substitute for decent writing, acting, etc.
This perfectly captures the fanbase. We don’t even care whether the movie itself is bad. If it gives us nostalgia from our childhood, it’s a 10/10.
That's what makes me sad though. Our standards are so low that this meets the bar we set.
It's honestly kind of sad reading some of the comments here. It's fine if you like the Mario movie, but I don't think it deserves anywhere near the praise it has been getting from people. It especially gets on my nerves when people praise it and then go on to say that you shouldn't criticize it much because it's for kids.

When it’s being praised for character design/animation style and etc it’s also reasonable.

@@theraymunator I been a fan since 1989, and went into this film with low expectations. Objectively I thought it was a decent film. The mix of the US Brooklyn Mario with Nintendo’s world was done well, the visual style, how Bowser was straight out of the manga was nicely done. Peach was out of character for me when it comes to her voice, and some of her mannerism, like a 90s US cartoon girl power personality, but from a marketing view I see why they did it to appeal to the Western audiences. Over all from a critical view, not counting references to games the film made, it was good. Thing is not one thing is made for everyone.
