I went to Bamberg on probably my 20th visit to Germany and I was wondering why I’d never been there before. It was gorgeous. I did go in June and the rose garden was lovely with the views. I happened to be there on Corpus Christi day which was particularly special with the parade around town in June.
I never run out of Photos to take in Bamberg and I live here. If you ever need some super kitsch or artsy photos of the city, let me know. And if you ever want your photo taken in Bamberg, let me know also. I enjoy you videos and was delighted the first time I saw your in my city
I was one of the fortunate Soldiers to be stationed in Bamberg. This was 1993-96. I rate Bamberg as one of my favorite places to be stationed during my military career. You are exactly right there is so much to see in and around Bamberg. I still look back on my time in Bamberg very fondly.
I am german. When i went to Bamberg for the first time, i had to try the Rauchbier (smoked beer) off course. I drank it all up, but stiil, i did not fall in love with it!😊
I visited Bamberg for the second time in 2023, and had my first experience with the Rauchbier. I was sitting outside at a table I shared with a German local. I was OK with the Bier and some great German conversation. He spoke fluent English, but the first few minutes I was using my very rusty German. He reminisced about the Army base nearby and how it was a positive influence on the local culture. I was stationed in Mannheim from 1963 through 1964. It was a fun cultural experience!
I am Polish some of my ancesters came to my region from Bamberg and areas around this city, They say that over 30% people in my region have roots in Frankonien. I would like one day to go to Bamberg it looks astoning.
In Upper Franconia, especially the area around Bamberg has the highest brewery density in the world. Upper Franconia is the german heart of beerdrinkers, no joke !!!
My wife and I brought our kids here in the spring and really enjoyed our few days here. Spot on about the Rauchbier, though I would add that some places apparently have a tourist friendly Rauchbier 101 that a tour guide advised us all to try first. Nice video Mark.
I'm watching this while in Bambert (14/12/24) and everything you say is true - it's a great place (I too have been to many, many German towns and cities). Bamberg is a must see
@stevebartley628 - I am local there, come in September to Lichtenfels. Then is Korbmarkt (basket market), a festival with a lot of beer and bratwurst !
Such a beautiful city! We love getting a huge Schäuferla for dinner…so delicious! We think it’s much better than Schweinshaxe which can be found throughout Germany but Schäuferla is generally only in Franconia. Yum!!
I live there and would recommend other places... but well, not here 😂 as a local you also need to get away from tourists from time to time. But the places I recommend are all walkable within the city centre. Find out on your own.
Hi I live in Bamberg. Best Schäufela in my opinion is served at "Sternla" (you can just google "Sternla Bamberg"). If you are a larger group you should make a reservation for the place is always packed. You can have Schäufela for lunch or dinner, doesn't matter. Just be prepared to feel pretty full after eating 😅

@@doubledbbw it’s too bad there’s no longer a base in Bamberg. Such a beautiful city.

We loved visiting Mannheim and Heidelberg military bases. Too bad so many lovely installations in Germany have closed.

I've been to some German cities and have more on my to-do list. You make Bamberg so appealing, it has to go on my list!! Thanks.
I’m glad you mentioned that it’s like multiple towns. I was just telling my daughter that very thing. I’d really like to go back there someday.

Hey Mark, awesome video
❤❤❤
Sausage and a pretzel sounds good about now.
Just remember, if you're drinking a beer in Germany at 10am, that's 3am CST in the US. So...think of it as close to bar time!
