I just bought the new small pro (4 shelves) from Harvest Right a couple months ago and have been running batches continuously. I found you after my purchase. But my FD came with this pump as well as their impulse sealer. I watched your video on replacing your sister's teflon tape, and how you were impressed with how the Harvest Right sealer was made, and now with watching this video and you impressed with this pump, I'm so happy with my purchase!!! I'm on run 25 and the oil in the window is so clear clean! Thank you for your videos - I'm going to start watching all yours. Right now I'm starting to think of meals, and too, Christmas presents of FDed things!
I have that same pump. I haven't changed the oil since I've gotten in and I've been worried about it. I do plan on changing it once this summer heat finally breaks. Glad to hear how clean this runs.
Sorry, I've never made a how-to video about building the filter system. These videos do show it in more detail, perhaps they will help. I'll answer an question I can. brother i know running that fan over the pumps to make them run cooler seams like a good thing but those pumps need to run at a high temp that is how they remove water from the oil
Thanks. Yes, I know. It's not like we're making it cold! Most electric motors run more efficiently and last longer when kept under 160ºf. Very high temperatures also degrade the oil faster, leading to less effective vacuum and the need to change the oil more frequently. Properly run, no water/moisture should ever make it to the pump. The cold trap should be stopping/capturing all of the water, and on her machine, the way we run it, it does. Her pump has never had a single drop of water. I have a much older machine, I know what moisture in the oil looks like. I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything, I'm just trying to show what I do, try to tell why I'm doing it, show what's been working year after year, and show resources when I can.
It's purpose is to insulate the seal. The machines don't _need_ the seal insulation or the door disc we add, but for us it's a useful addition because of two related things: condensation and heat transfer. First, while it's cooling, but before the vacuum pump starts, it helps with heat transfer. Second, because I often (very often!) don't get to the machine right away when it finishes, it just sit there chilling. Sometimes it waits 12 hours or more. Very chill, -40 chill. By the time I get around to it, without the front disc and seal insulation, the entire door and seal would be covered with condensation, both liquid and frozen. And then it melts and makes a mess. For people that stay right on top the the process, ready to take it out and check it the minute it beeps, all this is much less needed. it is an informative video , i appreciate your efforts i thank you in advance if you can explain what inside the machine to know more about how it work, specially the cooling cycle
I honestly don't know why not. Maybe the oil breaks down over time and loses some important property? We certainly saw no issues with it; as far as I could tell it was still perfect. Maybe a vacuum-pump-oil-scientist will chime in and let us know!

It is stunning how clean the oil has stayed with this pump.
That really is amazing how clear it is

Do you have a vodeo on building a recirculation system ?

Is there foil around the black seal? I am new to freeze drying. Mine has not been used yet. Trying to learn all I can.

Curious, if I end up getting a new pump does your link give you credit for that also? Or just for new freeze dryers?
😁 As far as I know it's for anything.
@@SchoolReports sorry I didn’t think of it when I ordered the hose. Two valves, new hose, still no good. 🙁
@@eileenniehaus5368 I wish I could get my hands on that machine!

Thanks. Good idea!
Do you think it would have been okay if your sister went more batches without changing the oil? Could it go 100 batches?
I honestly don't know why not.

do you have a link the the web site to upgrade our freeze driers to the new pro upgrades
I haven't seen anything on the website about upgrading yet. At this point I think you just have to call them.
