Great question, It was my first thought too! Manufactures have this procedure in their own manual. I reached out to 2 different manufacturers about this, they say the pressure helps push the oil out and sling out any contaminated oil from the pump itself. They said a film of oil coats and remains on the metal parts. A very short run time will not create enough heat to separate the oil film and will not damage the pump.
Isn't bad to run the pum dry ? I wouldn't do that to a car .im just asking tank you
