M40 is my local motorway, it’s a very mixed road, when it’s moving it’s a pretty good motorway and not much tends to go wrong, but when it does go wrong, it goes wrong badly. We’ve had some massive and tragic crashes and accidents in our patch of the M40.
It feels weird that some of these motorways are just older than me. I can't imagine what the area was like before them. It feels like they were laid down at creation.
yes it was completed even before the M4 was fully finished through South Wales it was built has high importance to get coal from South Wales to the heavy industrial heartland of the blackcountry to fire the factories and furnises
That unopened stub of the M42 was interesting - presumably they built it but it didn’t go anywhere and had to wait to open it until funds allowed for the rest of the motorway?
A orbital motorway for Birmingham could of been optional with the M42, M5 and M6 being the orbital route for Birmingham. And the M42 would of extended northeast to connect with the M1 near Derby & Nottingham.
@Chris Johnson I wouldn’t Class the M6 Toll as part of the orbital as if you were to travel anti clockwise, you can only join the M6 North at the top end, which leads well away from the West Mids
there was planned a western orbital from M42/M5 to M54/M6 but it was dropped about 20 years ago, which is a great pity because the traffic west of Birmingham is appalling and with many of the railways closed in the 1960s no option but to sit in for two hours to do 15 miles
I worked on a good few sections of those Motorways including the widening of the M5 and M6 rehabilitation through the 80’s
You have brought joys to many lives. The start of many fun holidays!

Wow, didn’t know the M50 was so old! Thought at least it was built after the M5

The m42, m5 and m6 is an orbital motorway for bimingham
Nobody thinks about it as that
@iHonolua It’s the M42, M5, M6 and M6 Toll that make up the “Birmingham Outer Ring Road.”

how come it doesn’t show the m42 i guess its “a42” connecting onto the m1
Can you do a Scottish motorway timeline
The MIDLANDS, surely? ;)
M54 is my local motorway
Cpr1234 mine is M275
Now M5 has those dopey 4 lane sections with no hard shoulder. Every day there seems to be an accident the Traffic Wombles just shut it
I aint gone on any on the channel exept M1 but you didnt film peterborough A1m
A bit too far from midlands I guess
Actually I was there a couple of months ago, it's just not particularly noteworthy for a video though
To be honest i find the M1 awful
Can you please do this with Lancashire and Cumbria
