This movie really extends Joseph as a person. Really just shows that Jesus wasn’t a loving man because he was just the Messiah, but also because he was raised by a Good Man who loved his wife and trusted God when he rightfully had his suspicions of Mary’s pregnancy.
Remember this is only an artistic representation of the nativity story. The writers of this movie will have had to fill in blanks where the scriptures are silent, we know very little about Jesus as a child and Joseph as Jesus’s adopted father. We can know why Jesus is loving though because the Bible says “He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature”.
I love this movie! I saw it in theaters and have watched it every Christmas since then. It isn't Hallmark and is actually well done and handles the story with nuance and sensitivity without "over-baking" it. The international cast and crew come from every corner of the globe, including the Middle East. It gives the movie a richness that is rare. For those of us who still celebrate Christmas as the religious holiday that it was originally, it is something beautiful.
Honestly this is the best Nativity Story I've seen !!! . It's absolutely brilliant in the way it is put together . So natural and realistic . Acting is so on point too !!
I just started reading Matthew and it reminded me of this movie trailer I saw when I was 10 or 11. I had forgotten all about it. I'm gonna have to check this movie out! Praise be to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

This movie did well in casting several people from the Middle East (one is from Iran and the other Palestine) and those who resembles Middle Eastern people.
I’ve always felt like Joseph is the unsung hero of this story. I mean Mary was the vessel chosen for our Lord to be born to this earth and Jesus well He is the King of Kings but Joseph he is quietly in the background. I mean God chose him to be the patriarch of this family here on earth. He must have been a strong yet humble man.
Joseph was from the line of David, and it was prophesied that the Messiah will be from the tribe of Judah, descendant of David. Joseph had a big part to play. 😊
Exactly, and plus he stayed with Mary throughout even though her child was not his. Some fathers leave their wives when they know that the child is not theirs
Keisha I just watched why the nativity, beautiful job on playing virgin Mary. I never new the whole story. I'm glad it finally came out. God bless you Merry Christmas to the family
This is the true meaning of the Christmas holiday. Jesus is the King of Kings, Lord of Lords, prince of peace, Emmanuel, the son of man, the son of God. Yes, he’s without any doubt the promised messianic savior.
+RJ Exactly. There is no scriptural provision regarding a holiday the Catholics/Gnostics created to disperse the pagan's winter solstice. It's puuure Macy's!
When you suddenly realized that Joseph was Apocalypse of X-Men, Poe Dameron of Star Wars, Spider-man 2099, and Moon Knight. Damn, Oscar Isaac what a man!
This is my favorite movie of any I've seen. I felt the presence of God. After being at the Holy Land I can say this movie is more authentic than any other. Thank you. 🙏
Watching this as a double feature with The Passion of Christ makes it that more beautiful, cant wait for Mel Gibson's The Resurrection of Christ..which would complete the unofficial trilogy of Jesus Christ..His birth, His death & His resurrection.
The beautiful soaring music that kicks off with the bell gong at 1:47 is from the 2005 Lassie film. This has been one of my favorite film trailers since 2006, partly because of this music, and it was only today I watched Lassie and realized that that's where they got this music from. So cool.
One of my favourite trailers to this movie is the teaser. I love how they show the sunset and they feature the beautiful music. The most phenomenal and beautiful teaser trailer I’ve ever seen
I love this movie! It is well-balanced and very moving because it shows them as real people, but with God coming into the midst of their lives very dramatically as they are going about an otherwise normal human existence.
Rabbi Yeshua the Messiah! Great to see this story of the original Christmas, the night he entered the world. And I will always respect the historical Santa Claus, Nicholas of Myra, a Greek missionary who spread the word of Rabbi Yeshua as Messiah. Merry Christmas 2023! 🎄
Shown in: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest How to Eat Fried Worms Everyone's Hero Open Season The Guardian Flags of Our Fathers The Prestige Flicka Flushed Away Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause Happy Feet
The story of the birth of Jesus is perfect, and everything that Joseph, a descendant of David and Mary his wife, went through to fulfill the Bible Prophecy about the birth of the Messiah, Jesus Christ our Lord, awaited for generations and centuries.
Why is the wonderful Ciarán Hinds always cast as a villain? This film looks good, but I can't get over how dismayed I am that this likeable and thoughtful actor (who was at his best as the most humane of the Mossad assassins in the film Munich) is cast as the evil King Herod.
This is not right, Mary never asked : Why is this God has chosen me? I am nothing. SHE NEVER SAID ANYTHING LIKE THAT, SHE SAID : "I am the Lord's servant. May everything you have said about me come true." Then the angel left. ( Luke 1:38) Mary was humble, not in disgrace and there is not a conersation about Mary and Elizabeth, not in the Bible. and Mary really loved Joseph.
Well we only get a glimpse, 10 verses as how Mary felt. It is very possible that she did feel unworthy or felt unbelief. She accepted what god had for her but that doesn’t mean she questioned it at times.
Yes she asked "How can this be? I've never been with a man"? Then after Gabriel explains to her about what will happen she says "Here am I, the servant of the Lord, let it be with me according to your word" and Mary did love Joseph she wouldn't have married him and had children with him if she didn't
And she brought forth her first born son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
This is not base on the truth of the Holy Bible, for example Mary was a 35 year old virgin, we do not know how many wise men were there and we do not know their names, and the villages did not have dirt floors or the roads were paved and there were sidewalks.
Well truth be told Bethlehem was kind of getto and tiny, Jerusalem had cobble stone roads yes but not signs of side walks like Rome. Some liberties have to be take with a film, finding the right Mary who is also Jewish aka bit white or black is also not an easy job. I'm qm glad the armor was period correct, the robes where right the jewels the Jewish priest had was right. The masonry was right and the races where right. Your being a bet too nit picky here guy. Your not gonna get much more accurate then this unless we had a combination of Bible schoolers combined with archeologist and historians. These events took place over 2000 years ago technically most likely around 2.6 thousand years ago as there was a gap between Christianity gaining enough power to create the terms AD and BC, BC means before christ so as you could imagine things tend to get a little lost over time.
