was stopped by a well dressed Dutch student on Wenceslas Square one night, he had been robbed at the train station when he arrived in Prague, they took his wallet and passport. He couldn't get money wired to him without a passport and had nowhere to stay. He wanted money for a hostel, I asked why he didn't contact the Dutch embassy for assistance, offered to google the number and call it for him. He said he already called them and they were closed for the weekend. So the muggers had taken his wallet and passport but not his mobile phone.......I thought something wasn't right. He said he had no money for food so I said I would buy him a McDonalds as it was the only place that was open. He said no, If I gave him money, he could buy something in the morning. I wished him good luck and gave him nothing. I don't know if he was a scammer but I didn't believe him enough to give him cash.
I think you should carry some of those old belarusian rubles to give to these guys and claim you just exchanged your dollars for them and start persuading them that they actually are the czech currency. Dunno why I wrote this in english when I am actually czech but whatever.
This happened to me in the states. A man had his whole family in his car. Wife and like 4 or 5 children. And he offered me the same exact ring in your video. I still have the ring. I gave him $30 US dollars for it. I took it to a Jeweler shop and they told me it was 100% copper. They took advantage of my kindness, but everyone has their dues in life to pay and he'll pay for his one day
But you were willing to take advantage of his desperation if someone is trying to trade a gold ring for gas then that's their very last option like gold is like 90 bucks a gram today well 86 with spot price of 80 so a gold ring thats bigger than a wedding band can easily be worth thousand.
@K.M.S.2024 I didn't want his stupid ring. I just wanted to help him and his family. He LITERALLY begged me to take it so I did. I knew if it was real that is was worth more than what I had to give him hence the reluctance to take it in the 1st place. And I don't need anything in return when I help someone. Thanks for the current gold prices smh
@@mattsimpson398 You seemed kind of salty about it though and if you knew that's what was happening why wish him bad karma? you also didn't seem too reluctant to try sell it lol but hey i can check copper prices for you if you want maybe you got 50 cent back and a cool story to moan about.
A guy tried to pull this of on me in Paris. When I started speaking to him in Romanian he said "sorry, I didn't know that you are Romanian" wished me a nice day and left. :))
I don't know about the other one but the one at 1:40 got almost killed by me. He dared to go for my mother's neck. When I saw this guy on other people's TH-cam channels I was shocked. If I had killed him that day he wouldn't be on TH-cam no more.
A very serious and dangerous scam is when you "find" a kid "crying" and they need you to take them to a specific address (nearby usually). Police has issued multiple warnings about this since there are people waiting for you there to strip you out of your cash, car plus you can get abducted for ransom or worse. If that ever happens to you take the kid directly to the police station (cause it could be a situtation where the kid actually needs help)
So, I've experienced the "Dropped Ring" scam. Where someone runs up to you from behind, taps you on the shoulder and holds out a gold ring saying you dropped it. Then when you say it isnt yours, they say you can have it, but to give them some money for both of your good luck. So, I knew about this and in Italy, a lady tries this on us..so I said to her, "Yes yes thankyou so much that is mine!" And I kept walking. She started freaking out, asking for money..and when I said I didnt have any money..she wanted my shoes. I refused her my super comfortable teva sandals and she proceeded to take off one of her shoes, throw it at me, and then pick it up and walked away..with just one shoe on. I threw the "gold" ring in the trash, and hoped I stopped someone else from getting conned, lol. It was great fun.
That's awesome)) i was in Beijing and some guy dressed as a monk in a lift gave me sacred icons (knowing he wanted money). I said thanks and got out the lift))) I think he started swearing))
The same one happened to me and my partner when we were in Paris a few years ago, twice within less then 10 minutes. Like, we literally walked away from one and were talking about it when another person approached us. The funniest thing was that I had just read about it and we had talked about it a couple of days before, with him saying that "that couldn't possibly happen that often."
It's not courage bro. He is paid huge amounts of money! He is part of the scam. I was a cameraman for him for only 6 days when I found out he was a fake. HE IS WORKING WITH CAR DEALERSHIPS, GOLD SELLERS, TIRE SHOPS, FURNITURE STORES, PAWN SHOPS and much more. You are all fools for continuing to believe these viral, supported, funded and even protected by local elites showpeople!
I experience this on Prague 3 years ago. In one of the bridges. The guy said it was Italian and his family were on the backseat (true). I didn't take the ring because I'm from a third world country and I know well you never never approach to a unknow car. I told him that i was from Mexico and i was walking because i didn't have any money. He leaved before i could finish. Personally as latinoamerican i feel really offended... be robbed without a gun? so unrespectul.
@@celticlord88 One time I was at Walmart with my grandma and this lady actually drove up to us in the parking lot and have her (maybe) six year old ask us for money. "We're struggling," the mom chimed in with bags of shit from Walmart in the back. The worst part is that my grandma actually almost gave it to them
I know right? If someone is gonna rob me at least have the decency to do it with a gun. Jaja excelente comentario el suyo parcero, me hizo reír bastante, se a lo que se refiere. Cómo Colombiano entiendo a la perfección!
I would much rather give someone 10 dollars for clothes than for brass chain that is worth like 50 cents, gotta admit the scammers in Switzerland got style
@@G59METH A friend of mine got scammed like that when he was young and from what he told me the clothes were mediocre at best and they asked him something like 30 francs. The logical explanation is that since we're next to Italy it's more acceptable to give someone luxury italian clothes than gold jewellery
Easiest way to get out of these scams is to tell 'em stories that don't go anywhere, like the time I caught the ferry over to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe, so, I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. "Give me five bees for a quarter," you'd say. Now, where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones..
I experienced this in San Francisco, luckily I didn’t go any further once he offered me a gold ring in exchange for a rank of gas . My mom told me as a kid “If it doesn’t make sense, then It is usually a lie
right. same scam happened to me where I lived a few years ago. I didn't get to the ring part because unfortunately for him, there were literally four gas stations the direction he came from so none of what was going on made sense. He had a little girl with him too. I hate that they use family just to cheat people.
I fell for this on a road trip through South Dakota. I gave the “family" $5. Then the junk rings came out. He wanted $50 now. I handed the steel to the toddler being used as a prop. In my hometown we have a scammer/bum who’s been trying to drive some kids to Danville. It’s been twenty years and he still hasn’t gotten there. Those helpless kids must be in their twenties.
What really grinds my gears is that they literally bring their families along with them teaching them to continue the scam instead of making an honest living. If you were any parent worth their salt youd know the criminal life might pay well but it can also have diasterous returns like going to jail for one.
Oh yeah I mean he may or may not be teaching the child to scam but what he is definitely doing is bringing his (maybe even someone else’s) kid with him because it makes him look more legit. Enough people assume that no scammer would bring their kids along and are more willing to believe their story. Some people even bring their kids along with them while they’re actively robbing people as a bullet shield hoping whoever they’re stealing from will be less likely to shoot at their car with kids in it
And honestly - this is so bizarre - this cannot be an efficient scam. These guys are rolling around in Mercedes and BMWs trying to scam a little cash off of people. This can't be cost efficient with gas prices and the time it takes and the opportunity cost of using these cars to get - what - maybe 500 CZK each time?
When I newly moved to the Emirates an Asian man asked to borrow money to get a taxi to his embassy for his passport and money because he had been robbed and everything taken. I gave him $50 because he genuinely looked flustered and upset. He took my number. I didn't hear anything for 2 months and got a call and he gave me the money and a nice designer pen. 🤷♂️.
My husband had the same issue in a Racetrack gas station in Georgia, it was a family that was supposed to go to a wedding in NYC and they were all dressed up driving from GA to NYC, I told my husband, why would someone drive for more than 8 hours all wearing super fancy, elegant outfits?!?!?! Really? The guy was offering him a gold watch 😄
I had this Scam pulled on me when I visited Rome, Italy. The guy almost had me, except for his greed. He was offering me a dress shirt and designer belt for my generosity in helping him. He wasn't happy with the amount of cash I gave him, so I said ' OK, give me back the $50 and I'll give you $100. When he gave me back the $50, I dropped his gift in the passenger seat and walked away.
I had something similar attempted on my in Hungary. The guy "found" a ring in a bush near the station where I was sitting and tried to get me interested in his find. His aim is to get you to pay half the cost of the ring and take the ring with you. I didn't know the scam a the time but I avoid interacting with people in these places due to scams, so I just gave him a thumbs up and went on with my day. Ironically a lot of the time, they rely on your greed specifically. The gold thing is intentional, because it puts you in an almost "too good to be true" position where you really want that once in a lifetime bargain. But if the situation was real, would you really want to take someone's gold in exchange for a fraction of the real cost?
Yep. Had one in Rome too. About 10 years ago. He offered me t-shirts for free. Then he asked money for gas so he can get to the train station. I walked away.
@@ivanlagrossemoule yeah, happened to me on broad daylight in the middle of the most frequented tram car in Budapest. The guy even had a story that coming over from romania, and not having his ID on him, he's not allowed to take it to a pawnshop, so i can buy it for shits from him and take it there myself. In the end i simply declined, nothing fancy unfortunately
Dude tried to pull this on me when I was on my lunch break at Walmart, I usually test people by saying I don't have any money. He immediately said to go inside and get some out of the atm, instead of leaving like a normal person. Dude even had his kids in on the scam. Disgusting people
I had a guy try to pull the same crap on me. I was downtown heading home and he claimed both him and his wife forgot their wallets and they ran out of gas. He also supposedly had kids and when I told him I had no money he told me about all the nearby ATMs. Who forgets their money and phone 🤔
I was heading out of walmart like 30 min ago and some dude with a family pulled up behind me in a bmw x5 and asked for gas money, literally around the corner there was a gas station. I grew up as a teen in Miami and here you would learn to trust none, so as soon I noticed the gold ring and being too friendly, I said no he took off and never saw him again. Always remember to trust nobody. No one is your friend in this country lol.
I think it's because they ask for large amounts of money. They need gas but the only collateral they have is "expensive" so they ask for more than what you'd normally need for cash, a hundred or so as opposed to a tenner
It relies on people's greed. Also they'll sometimes offer it as collateral and promise to wire or mail you the money back, on the premise that the ring itself is worth hundreds of euros the mark is more likely to give them much more cash.
Even if this were real and not a scam... I couldn't be bothered. I don't have time to call someone back and arrange a means of them paying me back while I return their gold. Especially if I'm a tourist, I want to make my vacation time count.
I looked this up because it happened to us for a 3rd time in Las Vegas today. This time they came up to our car window when my husband was in Walmart and my 13 year old was waiting in the car. My husband came out of the store and knew what was happening, he took the ring out of my sons hand and gave it back to the man.
Rule of thumb: Keep walking. Ignore. Don't let anyone stop you, touch you, or hand anything to you. I don't even take someone's business card unless I asked for it.
The ONLY people who will stop you on the street are people trying to scam you, rob you, or get you to join their cult. A person truly in need will be humble and clear what they need.
Unfortunately this is true. Even if they are just asking for directions, or a match for their cigarette. People who want to scam you or rob you want to stop you, and then do their thing. If I do help them I do it without breaking my stride.
I have no problems with street thieves and beggars. I will be far more violent, viscous and noisy than they can possibly imagine. Be warned, these criminals can damage your shoes with their teeth.
@@ppumpkin3282 ehh I don't think you have much to worry about from someone asking directions or to borrow a lighter, I've been on both sides of both of these examples and there was never an issue.
I worked for a jewelry store in the central valley of California and we bought gold by weight. We had the official acid testers and it was always heartbreaking to tell someone that they had been cheated. It happened all the time. Always bought at a gas station from a guy needing gas. some paid up to 50 bucks thinking they were getting a real hunk of gold. It was always a huge man's ring that looks fairly real if you are not trained.
About a month ago, I got played by some middle eastern guy, with his wife and kid in the car. Very believable. I explained to the guy that I'm currently homeless and I couldn't really afford to help, but he seemed so convincing. He got me for $80, i had $40 left over for food. I took it to the gold exchange to find out it's fake. They told me what to look for. I had the 18K stamp in the chain, but I didn't have a manufacturer's name. I'm still homeless, but I have a couple grand saved. I got approved for an apartment for November. Whoever's reading this... have that life insurance talk with your family, or pay out of pocket for a funeral and become homeless like I did, it's your call. Peace.
Iam czech and when i was like 16 (8years ago) I bought "swiss watches" from a gypsy near the train station and he asked me to give him 300 for gas lolololo I did because I wasyoung and stupid but I got a quick reality check from my mother when I cam home from "shopping" hahaha
In July me and my husband go to the Prague, we seen this scamer in 2019, we have idea, in our country ( Poland ) we have a "money for kids to learn, totally fake, looking totally legit ", we take them, and give It to scamers ( if we met them ). "Cheating the cheater is like a public service"- Terry Pratchett
Thank you for making this! I had this exact scam happen in Seattle, WA. I was on a highway off ramp and a guy was stopped with his hazards on. I don’t usually stop but that day I decided to stop and see if I could help. His car was full of his family and he approached me and gave me a card just like that. Same sob story, and stating he has his kids in the car. Also he said the ring and necklace was worth $250 and he needed like $100 in gas. I knew something wasn’t right so I told him to go to a pawn shop and gas station then because I wouldn’t help him. He looked defeated but I’m not out here to be scammed of my hard earned money.
I fell for this scam 13 years ago! I was 17. It happened in my hometown in Bulgaria, a guy approached me and asked for gas money and offered the ring in exchange. I was young and dumb and took it, thinking i could just go and exchange it for money later. Funny thing is i got my first salary ever that day and that guy scammed me out of it. Never again.
When I was realy young like 7 or so I remember this happened to me and my family in Sweden when we were on a little roadtrip. It was the exact same sort of scam with a family that was “out of gas” so they stopped cars and wanted to trade a ring. I remember that we just left them after negotiating for a little bit. I also remember some of the family members were sitting outside the car eating McDonald’s like it was a walk in the park waiting for their parents to Finnish their “job”
Still happens, very similar scams, but only a few months ago an Italian guy stopped me in Värmamo of all places. He had the story he went to a business meeting but the people he was supposed to meet missed the meeting, and he had some very expensive sample watches to sell for a few hundred kronor because he could not afford to pay the duty on them on his return home. Usual deal, luxury car, well dressed, well spoken.
As a child I saw this routine being played out on my father - he was offered a fancy looking watch (1973). When he declined the guy tried to negotiate a watch swap with him - the flashy fake Rolex for my dad's gold Omega. I reckon it's at least as old as the Romans.......Excuse me, citizen. My horse is starving and I need to buy some hay so I can make a business meeting with an important senator on the other side of town. I will give you this beautiful bust of Venus, definitely solid bronze (not painted plaster) for a few solidi.
Worked at a pawn shop directly next to a gas station. I recognized the rings in the videos immediately, they have a very specific look and feel to them and are unlike other counterfeit gold ive seen.
Just for these guys you should have some monopoly money in your wallet to give them. If they call you out on it being fake money, just reply with "yes, I know, fake money for fake gold."
When i was a kid i once bought a fake watch from a guy selling it at the beach (i know i know) told the guy fake money for fake watch, his face was priceless. For the ones wondering why i bought it, i use it for travel incase i get robbed (worked already!)
UK (Redbridge), Guy had a similar business card, Volkswagen Estate car, gold ring, claiming his mother was in Hospital in Netherland and he needs money to buy air tickets, i told him to sell the car 😂
Had someone asking me €50 for gas in Belgium. Tried convincing me by showing his passport. He even had a convienent canister with him, what a coincidence
It literally just happened right now to me. Drives up in a really nice SUV with his family offering me a "huge 18 karat gold ring" for gas money. I tried to offer to give them 20 bucks for gas but they persisted on more and in cash
Omg, this happened to me last month at my parents place (Canada). He called me down from next to my house (suburbs), and after his sob story I blatantly said “Sorry, but what do you want from me?” They asked for gas, which was weird, so I said no and watched them drive away. Why would I give gas money to somebody driving in a car, they clearly had enough gas to get that far. You break down, you walk, you don’t immediately start begging.
It would probably work on a generous American. Over here walking is often dangerous, roads are made for cars exclusively with accomodations for pedestrians coming as an afterthought if at all. To an American, no gas == stuck.
Brampton ? Had it happen twice the last summer I lived there ! The 1st guy I dismissed then the 2nd I pointed out a place he could sell it across the street 😂🤣
one time something similar happened to me. a gold chain, traded for gas money. he admitted it seemed like a scam. I gave him $15 dollars. I sold the chain for $25. what a weird experience that was
I once offered a brand new bandsaw ($300) for $20 of gas at a gas station to a fellow construction worker and he refused to help out I ended up scraping $2.50 from my car and was able to get home from work that day.. it was a crazy day I felt so helpless
The thing that doesn't add up here is I always keep about £20 in my wallet, specifically as emergency gas money, as well as another £10 plus some change in the car glove compartment (for parking meters, tolls & any other emergencies). So there is literally no way I could end up driving around asking for money.
I've had this happen to me 3 times here in Prague. My BS detector went off the first time already, when I offered to call the police for help, he instantly had enough gas to drive away in a Lewis Hamilton kinda fashion :P
My friend met a cute girl that pretended to be an escort, took him back to the hotel where they drugged him and maked out his credit cards in the room while he was passed out.crazy and funny at the same time..be safe out there
I had this scam attempted on me. While I didn't know it was a scam I was at the store loading up my groceries and a foreign man come and offered me his ring for help. Instantly I said nope not doing it and that the pawn shop could help him then I left. Glad I didn't fall for it and should have called the cops!
Homeless in Florida will walk up to you at the gas station with a tank asking for money because their car is stranded a mile down the road. If you offer to fill it up they refuse.
Around 2015, I was standing by myself outside my small hotel in London when a woman walking past suddenly bent over and picked something up off the footpath beside me. She turns to me and says "you dropped your ring". I replied "no, its not mine". She then replied "oh well you can have it, it will look nice on you". I still refused it saying that I don't wear jewellery. She tried a third line of which I can't recall but again I refused to take the ring so she gave up and left. I thought it was an odd thing so I googled it and turns out she tried to pull the "gypsy ring scam" on me. Had I taken the ring, she likely would have harrassed me for money as a reward or as a small payment for the trinket.
I had this exact scam happen to me in Fargo,ND U.S.A. The man handed me a ring and a business card saying he needed gas and that he wanted to give me the ring for some money and because of this video from the honest guides I didn't fall for it. Thanks Honza and Janek I could tell right away that this was a scam. Thank you for all you do.
Those "business cards" look like the cards they stick onto your car door window in big parking spaces in Germany, saying they want to buy cars for import export
Yes it does hurt the honest people that really need the help. We have pan handlers here in the states that work pretty much like a company. A car will drop them off and come back later and pick them up and drop off someone different. Best think they say is to look at their shoes. Why would a homeless person be wearing a brand new pair of high dollar shoes? They hurt the people that need help too. If they really need gas then why are they wasting gas riding around asking for gas and if they have gold jewelry, why don't they go to a pawn shop and pawn them🤔.
Bewear of scammers and who you give your money to, I have been scammed from the online scammer but appreciate God for bringing me THEGREAT BEST OFFICIALPAGE on Instagram got my account verified.
I’ve forgotten my wallet and needed gas before. I went in and told the attendant. They wrote down my plate number, took pics and all kinds of info about me and let me have $15 credit until I could bring my wallet. They said it happens a couple times a month. The scammers are pretending to be in a predicament that doesn’t exist.
I experienced this in Poland almost 25 years ago. A car was parked at the site on the road, child inside and a crying woman who wanted to sell her ring for money to buy gas. Coincidentally I had a jerrycan gas in my car, and a petrol station was 2 kilometers down the road. So I offered him gas to reach the station. He declined....
@@telemachus7732 bro i would have just gone with the free gas....bro if you want a scam to work or at least fail without giving you away you have to be smarter than the person your scamming
I had a gas scammer actually come to the door of my condo asking for money for gas. I said "Sure. I can help you." I grabbed my keys and wallet and told them to follow me to the gas station that was 2 blocks away and I would buy them gas. Of course... they refused, got back in their car, and drove away.
I am not even sure this should be considered as a scam because nobody should buy a golden ring or necklace from a stranger they just met!! But if you are willing to take the risk for making a profit from those ''gold'' items then it is your problem really...
This scam is in America too. They wait at gas stations. Had one guy in a military uniform do it saying he needs to get to Andrews airforce base or something. Except he was only wearing part of the uniform. I said no and a week later at a completely different gas station 30 minutes away saw him again doing the same thing, same half uniform, same story.
Same happens to me but it was a family waiting for me with their car at a "automatic" gas station in the middle of the night. Couldn't even get back in my car. They were blocking me to get gas.
Similar one in South Africa that caught me. Was filling up at a petrol (gas) station, guy comes and asks me for a few, well, liters of petrol as he needs to get to a job interview. I unfortunately fell for it. A week or so later, colleague of mine who I had told the story to, saw the same guy at another station, with the same sob story and same car, so told me to blow it, that he knew it was a scam, and the guy ran off.
Tons of people that used to be in the military are now homeless addicts, so he was just taking advantage of the rampant nationalism here in the US, easy as pie. Between 9-11% of ALL homeless people in the US are ex-military.

I experienced this two times now in Texas. It was very alarming at first seeing a "distressed well dressed" man with his family. When i offered to pay for gas and ONLY GAS as the pumps were a few hundred feet away, they declined multiple times. They really just wanted to cash and offered to drive further away to a bank (to also trade for a GOLD ring). They left after i repeated my lack of cash. I didn't feel so about about letting down a family "in need" as i saw their rented BMW drive away and my senses came back to me. They really should have known a millennial eating a bowl of macaroni alone in a truck older them him was a bad target for cash.
Had this happen to me in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I was 18 at the time working a part time job. I was sitting in my car (which I had just bought the day before), it was pouring rain, and a guy drove up next to me and did this exact thing. I didn't know about the scam, but since I literally had no money because of my car (not even for gas that week myself), I politely told him I wasn't able to help him. Glad to find out that my situation at the time saved me from being scammed, haha.

OMG!!! So thank god I trusted my instincts but not long ago it happened to me in LA, YESS LOS ANGELES!! Guy was on the side of the freeway and told me to pull over to help, I felt bad and he said he had no money for a plane ticket to go back to his country and little to no gas. He then told me his jewelry was more valuable for thousands of dollars and needed to get to airport. He tried offering a necklace and ring supposedly very expensive and high value in exchange for $. Fortunately I said no because I actually had no money anyways 😂 but I was being almost scammed
Hey, I remember experiencing this exact scam 20 years ago with my grandma when i was a kid in France. The guy had his car stopped right before a highway in the countryside. Actually shocked to see this is still a thing. That also means it must work on some people (not my grandma though she instantly understood what was happening)
I found very similar scam in Italy some years ago, but the interesting part is that the same guy stopped me two times in the exact same spot, telling each time the same story about fuel. I told him "You had the same problem right here just one month ago!" It was near Peschiera del Garda, and he probably targeted German tourists, but didn't expect to find another Italian.
This happened about 3 years ago on my way home from work (UK, Essex). I was driving and his car was parked up on the pavement, right at the entrance to a large A-road. So no pedestrians at all so it looked like a legitimate breakdown. He was out of his car flagging other cars down and no one stopped; I felt so bad for him because he looked like he needed help. I was the idiot that stopped *sighs*. Gave me the same spiel about gas, gave me the card, ring etc. i didn't really focus on his story or the ring because i just thought he genuinely needed help and was trying to convince me to help....but once I opened my wallet....something inside said no...but it seemed rude to suddenly say no to him. So I gave him £5 and his response was "this is all you have?" in a slightly snarky way and I said "yes". I had more but obviously my alarm bells were finally going off so I didn't give more. I got home and checked out the card and address on the back and the location sent me to an open field somewhere in the UK haha. I fell for it. Hope my story helps prevent others from falling for this scam. Just because they are parked up and looking broken down like in my case, does not mean it's not a scam. Thanks for making a vid on this @Honest guide
This happened to me in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. I was washing my car at a self wash station and right after I finished a man in a grey SUV pulled up to me and asked if I had some money because he needed gas to get back to Quebec. After I asked him to repeat what he said because his accent was hard to understand, he asked if I could speak French(no). I told him that I just used the money I had on the self wash. and I had only $1 left over that he could have. He must not have been prepared because after I said I didn't have money, he pulled up a "gold" ring on a chain and tried to offer it to me after without mentioning a card. I briefly told him that I didn't need that he sped off as I walked away. I knew he was a sketchy guy just looking for a bit of money but I didn't know that this is a worldwide scam.
What I don't like is this ruins both of us for helping someone who really NEEDS assistance. We're just tired of being taken advantage of because we're NICE people.
One of the BEST uses of social media is to spread information that helps people, educates them, and (hopefully) keeps them safe from scams and con artists. Good for you. I did not know this one. Here in New Orleans French Quarter....We have those wretched fake monks keeping US busy! LOL...
Did anyone else notice that when Janek's yelling at the second scammer to stop, saying "Hey, Hey, Hey!!", that the car's license plate ends in "HEY"? Seems like he was prepared lol.
The italian suite guy is famous in Dubai! It’s meme material and I managed to see him in person in my last month in Dubai in 2017, as well as other similar incidents around UAE and Jordan. But why is the scam similar all over the world?
I got had by the “Italian suit guy” he gave me 3 suit for directions to the airport as he was a designer from Armani and was in town on a conference. He then asked for some cash to give his wife a present. All I had on me was 100aed so gave him that. In all I got 3 three piece suits for 100aed. Wore them from time to time, got my money’s worth.
the "out of gas" one is now in Canada ."my friend i give you gold ring for gas money"... i grab phone take their picture and picture of dashboard that shows a full tank of gas :D "you out of gas but driving lmao"
"I lost my wallet and I need gas" is how the conversation usually starts. "Sorry, I never carry cash," is how I end it. So no need for me to worry if it's a scam.
Something similar, happened to me, in a supermarket a guy asked me if I knew where he can find a certain product, while I'm pointing at a store employee he can ask, another guy walks past us and drops a plastic bag full of golden chains, and keeps walking like he didn't notice, the guy who was asking me for the product picked it up and showed it to me, $1500 is written in marker on the bag, and says: "do you want to split it?" I told him to keep it and walked away. The next thing is to ask for what ever cash you have and let you keep the $1500 worth of jewelry, If you're greedy and dumb you might fall for this, I am very skeptical and don't trust anybody, plus I don't like jewelry.
Same here, whenever sometime tries to sell me something I say oh I don’t like jewelry or whatever it may be. Once a guy tried to sell me a entertainment projector for movies, he was persistent, I told him I don’t even watch movies. He saiid just make me an offer, I said most I’ll give is $5 and he got frustrated and drove off
This reminds me of the scam where some stranger "finds" an expensive piece of jewelry in front of you and decides to share it with you. You just need to buy their half.
This happened to me in a Home Depot parking lot in Roseburg, Oregon. A middle-eastern looking guy in a large SUV was wearing jewelry, and had a woman working with him in the back seat. I didn''t know about the scam and lost $40 for a large fake gold ring that he was wearing. Afterwards I tested it and the ring was not magnetic (passed the test), and had an 18k gold fake hall mark, but the density was about 40% of that of real 18k gold. Live and learn.
Same exact thing happened to me at a home depot in Rhode Island guy was in a big suv said he needed gas to get to the airport that he is from Dubai had his wife and baby with him I gave him 40 for a ring he was on his knees begging me
@просто улицы сша did he not already do that? what was he gonna do, redo it? As much as I love this guy that was pure theatrics 😭😂 if that guy stopped and got out of the car he'd do absolutely nothing 😂
I am not even sure this should be considered as a scam because nobody should buy a golden ring or necklace from a stranger they just met!! But if you are willing to take the risk for making a profit from those ''gold'' items then it is your problem really...
@@ggoddkkiller1342 Sigh. You're speaking for other people with that "should" logic. People can and do fall for it. There's no "should" about it. Accept that reality instead of being in denial. It's like you copy and pasted yourself.
It is the same as the taxi driver that only has large denomination bills, 8 dollar fare most people say just give me the ten he can’t find more than one or two dollars change so he offers you the ride free, most people don’t want to rip him off for the ride so say it’s ok, if on the other hand you say thanks for the ride he finds a $10 bill in his shirt pocket 🤷🏼♂️🤯

@@ggoddkkiller1342 They take advantage of people's greed and folks that are little bit too simple to understand they are about to be taken advantage of, I would say that pretty much fits the definition of a scam.
The fake business cards were so funny to me, especially the first one. I'm from Germany and I know those places, I do live at one of them. First card had the street wrong (it's Ellerstra'ß'e), no house number and an absurdly long postal code that wasn't even near the actual number (40227). They also put a european union flag instead of a french one, lol. The phone numbers are from Germany and the UK. The second one actually has a real adress, which leads to the 'Tomi Automobile GMBH', a car dealership with a really bad rating. I don't know if the scamers belong to this company tho, because the business card phone numbers and the ones listed online don't match up. 🤷🏼♀️
This almost happened to me in NYC. It was an SUV with two males in the front, two females in the back all of "middle Eastern" descent and they wanted money for gas...driving a SUV they need money for gas...Yeah, I didn't fall for it. It seems they target people because at the time I was returning home from the grocery store with bags in my hand, so they must of thought I would be the perfect pigeon for the scam. Besides, living in NYC, anybody coming up to you asking for money with a story is 99% scam artist. And before you might say, some people are homeless asking for money, there have too many supposed homeless people asking for money and all they are doing is using the good nature of people to supplement their already comfortable lifestyle. I saw a guy once asking for money while wearing air jordans and four gold chains. At least look the role of being destitute, not dressed better than most people working a 9-5.
How disgusting!! There are many different types of scammers all over the world. Thanks for showing and telling about this type of scam. I wonder if the license plates are valid for that scammer driver or are they also fake???? Thanks again and take care.
Life is full of potential unpleasent events. It's not going to go away by ignoring it. Doesn't mean get walked over. Does mean face the problem to resolve it. Otherwise it's just living in fear. Way I see it got to at least try. If nothing else the expreince helps with when it matters the most. Which it does. That said I don't reccomend going to Africa. People will death march you there. Though even then the one that challenged them was let go (with some others still alive). Those that seek stength value strength. Spines get respected. When they're honest. It's about getting the other person to consider that they're doing something counter productive. Fear will breed violence. Escpaism is the path of self destruction. If only scammers were the least of some peoples concerns. Thing is if you get scammed, deceived or taken advantage of then you were ignorant, weak and fragile enough to fall for it. How will you ever build up an immunity if you avoid? You won't. Therefor face the situation to learn how to catch on. Same logic applies in various situations. Things will get worse before they get better. Once they do get better though, you got it. You know. You're aware. It's not about "each and every scam". There's just certain "patterns" to look out for. You'll know them if you make it a point to look for them. Doesn't happen with what you know/fear alone. If you want a hook then consider how the lack of expreince could cost someone their sanity or even their life. I have saved peoples sanity and lives because I don't avoid the unpleasent events. Really important to talk sense into suicidal nitwits when they lie to themselves. It's why scammers are so unpleasent. They represent that "self delusion" that we can fall victim too. Yet even a scammer (or someone that hides themselves and self hates) can be convinced. Just keep asking questions. Keep showing you're observent without assuming. Keep getting people to ask themselves with the right questions. Then they can't take advantage of you. Even someone with a gun in your face will be defused if they question themselves when you're showing you're undestanding. Provided you know what you're doing. considering the advantages, I think confronting and facing a few unpleasent events is worth it. Make no mistake though. My reasons are selfish. Just happens to benefit others too. Consider this though. How many people have you taken advantage of without even realising when you're selfish? How many times have you been incosnidirate and refused to consider another perosons opinion? Perhaps after getting the last word in then shutting down communication. If this is so many people in the world, if the world is that selfish (which it is. Unfortunately) then it's no wonder scammers scam. That triggers them too? Does anyone consider that? Probably because they too live in fear. Or maybe someone judged them so they do it just so they know they have the choice. Could be any number of reasons. Reasons that none scammers gave them without even realising. Better to assume nothing. It's what scammers take advantage of. Question everything. If you fall for a scam then you might have bigger problems.
Growing up in and around Detroit really prepared me for the international scamming community. This is a classic at gas stations here, except our scammers have gun on which to fall back if all else fails. Only place that I've been where I felt more unsafe was Kingston JA.
this never happens in states. people are at stop lights with card board signs beggin for money. but usually you ignore them cause that shit is illegal.
The odd part is. someone with a car that's seen better days and sounds like it has issues. would actually tug on the heartstrings more. resulting in someone feeling sorry for the driver and being scammed out of a tank of gas
Lol, because of this scam, I wasn't able to sell a bracelet once. I was going to the pawn shop, but they closed right before I arrived. I needed quick cash, I was just trying to get $5 or so. Nobody thought it was legit. Ended up selling the bracelet the next day, for $100 at the pawn shop I had missed. But, I totally get it, don't buy unless you know for sure it's legit, and very very rarely will it ever be.
Happened to me twice. Once in Long Beach, CA 2022 & once in Charlotte, NC 2019. The first encounter i was fresh out of my CCW class and decided to open carry (NC is very gun friendly) and the guy hops out a SUV pitching the gold ring. I even held it for a sec- told him i didn’t have the cash and walked away. He tried to make me go to the atm but i wasn’t having it. And my firearm kept catching his eye. Needless to say, he got df on. As he drove away, i could see three or 4 ppl w/Halloween masks on covering their face as if they were ready to kidnap someone. Changed my life that day. The incident in Long Beach was a couple wks ago. I got flagged down by an SUV who looked like they were having car trouble and he offered me a gold ring. I was hip to the scam but did not stick around Long enough to let him pitch me. Y’all be safe and vigilant out there
When we were on bus tour in Paris and other European cities, our guide told us multiple times to ignore people on the street with "gold rings" asking you something.
I experienced similar scenarios in the middle east. People driving cars claim they are in need of gas and hence need money. But it was more of panhandling than scamming. They would ride cars full of families - women and little children and I cannot fathom what kind of effect that would leave on their children's minds.
Sadly this video was a few years too late for me. This happened to me here in the US. They said they were on vacation and were in need of gas. They claimed to be from somewhere in the middle east(Abu Dhabi..?). They were driving an SUV and had the family setup, well it was 2 males and kids in the back. I gave them 5 dollars thinking they were being honest. They also took out the rings and offered them as thanks, but since I had declined they didn't continue with the full scam. The whole thing just felt sketchy specially since I don't live in a tourist area and hence why I didn't give them more, but now that I know it was a scam it feels different...
A friend of mine met one of these guys in Brno. He knew what was going on, he got the ring, asked if it was a gift, the scammer said yes, my friend smiled and just walked away.
What's terrible about it all is now I won't give my money to someone who actually might have lost their wallet. Slowly devouring my sympathy towards others.
Many years ago, a friend of mine and I were approached by guy with an Italian accent asking for money to buy fuel. He offered a couple of jackets for our money and said he was a designer. Somehow he picked out accent and figured out we were from Venezuela and, in his efforts to empathize, name places from our city which really called our attention. At the end he lost his patient because we refused to give him money. He got mad and asked us to returned the jackets. So, yes. I'm familiar with that pretty old scam. My experience was in 2007 y Paris.
This was attempted on me in the dusty little one-horse town of Baker California. The guy was European and with his family. He offered me a necklace that was worth over $300 for $100 worth of gas. I knew it was a scam but played along. I told him I had a gold tester in my car and that I would be right back(I did not have one but went to my car anyway). As I walked to my car he took off. It was mildly funny.

i read about teh gold ring scam right before i visited Paris. Sure enough, an old lady approached my wife and i (walking in the opposite direction), pretended to pick up a gold ring and when she handed it to us i couldn't stop laughing.
We were on our first self guided day in Paris and someone tried to pull this on my mom (ring scam) near one of the RER stations. My mom turned the tables. She took the ring and walked away from them. LOL 😂
I live in Paris and I get stopped on the streets 2-3 times per day. Usually it’s people straight asking for money. Somewhere in the States maybe they could have cause and the reason , but in the country where a big chunk (in fact, the biggest chunk) of my salary goes to the social security protection I just don’t see the reason to give any money to them, whether they are in actual need or not. But yeah, if you are in the mood, you can ask THEM for money, sometimes they give you 😅
This just happened to me 30 mins ago in the US. Everything about the guy set off my instincts, I honestly thought I was being robbed. His voice was pleasant enough but his demeanor was menacing… then he glanced away which made me look behind me to see if someone was sneaking into my car to steal or try to grab me later. Anyway he sped off when I told him I couldn’t help. I checked my car just be sure I was good and left. Won’t be at that gas station again. Y’all be safe out there.
The same thing happened to my cousin about a week ago, except she caught the other guy trying to get into her car, the guy pulled out a knife, she pulled out her gun, she said she’s never seen anyone run that fast ever, even the guy in the car peeled out of the lot
100% same scam and scenario as you described, in San jose, Ca. I was working on my truck in my driveway, the guys roaming eyes kept looking behind me as he was showing me his ring, freaked me out so i grabbed the nearest hammer and told him to move on i didnt want non of it

You've met that scammer two weeks ago? So there are still scammers in Prague even if it's no tourists there?
was stopped by a well dressed Dutch student on Wenceslas Square one night, he had been robbed at the train station when he arrived in Prague, they took his wallet and passport.

In Switzerland these scammers don't offer you golden jewellery but luxury clothes ; it's pretty wild that these sort of scams happen worldwide

@@G59METH A friend of mine got scammed like that when he was young and from what he told me the clothes were mediocre at best and they asked him something like 30 francs. 7:15 he did mention that in the video
They only happen cause morons fall for them.
Is it you on 7:08?
A never ending story😂
Be sure to have your wife and children interrupt with crying as you deliver the endless "story".

Some people even bring their kids along with them while they’re actively robbing people as a bullet shield hoping whoever they’re stealing from will be less likely to shoot at their car with kids in it
All cultures are not the same. What a lovely addition to Prague.😃

And honestly - this is so bizarre - this cannot be an efficient scam. These guys are rolling around in Mercedes and BMWs trying to scam a little cash off of people. Really? The guy was offering him a gold watch 😄
Same thing happened to my son in Georgia at a Love's Truckstop. Took him for a hundred bucks worth of worthless jewelry.

What level of gypsy was he?

I was heading out of walmart like 30 min ago and some dude with a family pulled up behind me in a bmw x5 and asked for gas money, literally around the corner there was a gas station. I grew up as a teen in Miami and here you would learn to trust none, so as soon I noticed the gold ring and being too friendly, I said no he took off and never saw him again. Always remember to trust nobody. No one is your friend in this country lol.
Happened to me in a Target parking lot in Texas. Didn’t know about this scam but it sure felt like one. I just told him “no” and walked away.
What a strange scam. I would have thought that just asking for gas money would be more effective without the gold and other parts of this con.
I think it's because they ask for large amounts of money. They need gas but the only collateral they have is "expensive" so they ask for more than what you'd normally need for cash, a hundred or so as opposed to a tenner
Lol right? People in the US do that all the time.
A variant of the scam is that they want you to hold onto it until they "mail you" the repayment when they get home.
Happened to me in Kingman
It's a bit sad but that's the truth.

The thing that doesn't add up here is I always keep about £20 in my wallet, specifically as emergency gas money, as well as another £10 plus some change in the car glove compartment (for parking meters, tolls & any other emergencies). So there is literally no way I could end up driving around asking for money.

@@ggoddkkiller1342 Sigh. You're speaking for other people with that "should" logic. People can and do fall for it. There's no "should" about it. Accept that reality instead of being in denial.
No, really, you're lying to yourself with that logic. As for "your problem" (stop looking for someone to blame), I been over that with you in another comment section here. It's like you copy and pasted yourself.
I for one am always happy to help these guys out, and I’m saving all the gold rings in a big jar for my retirement. 😊
Honestly who would expect someone to trade real gold for a few bucks of gas

Gypsies
Why are they all Middle-Eastern?
@@IBarkForMakima They are not middle eastern - they are Gypsies. It's not hard to spot the difference in looks and typical behavior.
How disgusting!! There are many different types of scammers all over the world. Thanks for showing and telling about this type of scam.
I wonder if the license plates are valid for that scammer driver or are they also fake????
Thanks again and take care.
After travelling a bit, I will not speak with anyone who approaches me in the street anymore. The amount of scams and pickpockets is incredible.
The trick is looking very aggressive then nobody bothers you😁😁
@@ggoddkkiller1342 or spend your holidays in Switzerland
@@kingcookie3920 Because it's to expensive for the scam artists to survive there?
@@kingcookie3920 There's a comment above some one experiencing this sane scam in Switzerland 😀
Only place that I've been where I felt more unsafe was Kingston JA.
umm... did you just drop this gun? No? Hands up!
@@daviddionne8296 lol that would be hilarious "is this your gun? No? Too bad, because if it were, I wouldn't be robbing you...."
this never happens in states. people are at stop lights with card board signs beggin for money. but usually you ignore them cause that shit is illegal.
This just happened yesterday in Detroit Suburbs.
@@pluckypluckster You can’t have shit in Detroit. Everyone knows that.
Anyone who watched the movie "Zombieland" knows the scam. Don't forget they're usually driving a nice car.

“You have some gold rings for sale?” Beat em to the punch. Fun and informative video as usual
A good rule of thumb for this sort of stuff is to never give money when you’re trying to help someone out, only the necessities themselves.
I like how Dubai is labelled as a country along with France Germany and England
A friend of mine met one of these guys in Brno. He knew what was going on, he got the ring, asked if it was a gift, the scammer said yes, my friend smiled and just walked away.
What's terrible about it all is now I won't give my money to someone who actually might have lost their wallet. Slowly devouring my sympathy towards others.
Yup, I have to treat all strangers as scam artists because I can't tell the difference.
I highly doubt somebody is ever going to genuinely find themselves in this situation, so I wouldn’t much worry about it my guy.
no, it just means that u have to be better in readin people
As he says in the video, if they really need gas, they'll take gas instead of cash.
what are the chances that his license plate actually says “HEY” as he’s screaming HEY!!! that’s funny af
*_LOOK, did anyone else notice the Hey, hey, hey; _**_2:58_**_ Then notice the licence plate literally says 'HEY'? Wow what a coincidence lol!_* 😱😲
Six years later, in the middle of midtown manhattan, I was offered the same two jackets from the same designer!!! Six years without fuel. BIG TANK.

The best way to avoid any scam is don’t acknowledge strangers when they ask questions. Don’t answer the phone for unknown numbers.
But yeah, if you are in the mood, you can ask THEM for money, sometimes they give you 😅
Bad idea to try this, they can call the cops on you then instead and say they dropped their gold ring, and you stole it instead.
@@rdizzy1 I made her give it back…. My mom can just be a bit headstrong. It happened within 3 seconds of me looking at the ticket options. LOL 😂
