Great video. Perfect if youre already done w your painting and just stretching it on but if, like many of us, your sometimes want the canvas stretched on before painting then the middle wood will be touching the canvas and can cause lines. If the middle wood can b cut 1/4” or more down then all would work better.
"You can make this with a handsaw and some glue" -- now that's the video I want to see! I don't have all this equipment like a table saw etc. Someday I hope to, but not high on the list now.
Thank you sooooo much I am doing a 40” by 60” oil painting canvas for a customer. And it’s for alot$$$ and I ammmm sooooo glad I watched this before I I made mine omg last night I had such I problem. I’m sooo glad before I spent more money.
I appreciate this. I bought a very pretty but large (48x58) oil painting on canvas years ago, but now I’m wanting to frame it and can’t afford the hundreds of dollars that may cost. This gives me a good idea of how to do this for myself. Thanks!!
Thanks I just did my first one, worked very well, you explained everything well, I even went the extra mille like you did for the frame, it holds itself very well. Great DIY video, thanks again
PhunKiss Artistic Creations I know right. I took a painting in once and they wanted something like $200. Thank you but no thank you. My $12 frame will do just fine
5 years late, but ditto! I came here because I'm looking to buy a large canvas piece, but worry about the added cost of mounting it. Now, I'm feeling confident about buying it and go for it!
Another way to get squared corners is to add have 90 degree triangles at each joint. I don't have fancy machines, that's the best i could do with a hand saw. But thanks for sharing this i was able to stretch my painting.
Good video and easy to follow. The volume was also good. Thanks. Question.. I've only ever seen canvases stapled and stretched starting from the middle of the bar, and going out to the corners. You did it the other way around. Is there a reason for doing it this way? Kelly
Yeah, starting it from the middle is usually best. If you start from the corners and work inward, then you risk messing up and having a little bit of excess, which will bunch up in the middle and look really bad.
Cool. I just needed to know how to do the corner joins. Cos my daughter has a canvas 30×30 so I don't need it this big. But thanks v much. The first time trying this so 🤞❤
I love your sense of humor! However, I am a woman and don’t have electric saws and such. I bought stretcher bars from an art supply store, but I am having a devil of a time putting them together! The notches are so tight that I need a hammer to put them together!! They still are not square! Grrrr!
Where do you buy a blank canvas that big? I have a large picture i want to mount, but I cant find the right size canvas already made. So i need to make my own, but i dont know where to buy canvas. Thanks
Loved the video, trying to do my own stretch. My picture is 16x32 so I know I want my board a half inch thick. My question to you is, should I do 15x31 or just stick with the original measurements.
No, they're likely far more stable than other frames, I mean, they build houses from them. I've used 2x4 (ripped down to the profiles I want on the table saw) to make a lot of canvases.
How do you deal with weather changes wood shrinking and expanding mostly the shrinking part its gonna make the painting bowed and look dented morphed you know what I mean lol
Yes it would as starting to staple from the center and then moving out... if you start from the corners if you have excess canvas you're screwed, the other way you just pull more... That's why pro's do it the opposite way
Yo. I just applied the canvas print to my frame. I was sitting in my living room admiring it until I realized that I can see the framing under the print in the lighter areas. Owe. This print is 24 by 72 and I am going to have to remove it from the frame. Any suggestions for backing material?
Use a blank piece of canvas underneath your painting to hide any background colors or lighting issues. If you're referring to seeing the frame's shape, you'd have to pull off the painting and rehang it while properly applying tension to pull it tighter.
If you havebu the money you can find them. Better to make your own, but if you can't do that, hire someone to make them for you - loads less expensive then buying ready made.
@@thfi5294 ridiculous, I thought it was just me....I'm not the best at DIY, but should be pretty simple....thankfully my work throw out a shit load of perfect wood pallets for fun 😈
I just got something from Amazon 20 bucks, couldn't I just get a sheet of plywood a little smaller then the canvas picture itself and staple it to the back?
As a viewer I appreciate your time and effort, representing your video, thank you 🙏🏼

you can buy a hand saw with the angle cuting board for $19 at lowes its sweet
Love it. So much simpler than other videos.
Thank you
Awesome! Trying to save money on large painting by stretching and framing myself! Seems simple enough!
That painting is the painting man

Great and inexpensive way to mount a loose canvas. Totally agree that it costs a small fortune to have it done at a framing store. Two thumbs up! 👍👍

He's so funny. Great artwork and video on how to make a frame for canvas. Funny how he walks on his painting and just throws it on the ground 😅
You're the best 👌🏼
Great video. It made stretching my own canvas seem accessible.
Thank you for the video, useful.
Very nice video Komar! Cool paintings too!

I really like your paintings. Have you ever thought about making a video on how to paint that style?
Did you do those paintings? They’re beautiful!
Good video :) Simple and to the point while keeping it interesting. :)

Nope. You can go any way as long as you get a good stretch
@@KomarProject thanks. Do you find it easier to do it this way on big canvases.. or is this just the way you do your framing on any size?
Yeah, starting it from the middle is usually best. If you start from the corners and work inward, then you risk messing up and having a little bit of excess, which will bunch up in the middle and look really bad.

Beautiful painting!! Do you sell prints of it? I’d buy one.
I don’t. Should I?
@@KomarProject Definitely
Great video, love how you are editing these!
dan law thanks brother. Getting better with time. Like wine lol
5 x 5 canvas what is the exact measurements for to come out 60 x 60 do you cut it 62 x 62?
What size nails did you use in your main gun? How long did you meet the frame sit or dry before stretching the canvas?
Nice video! I am curious, how did you make these paintings if they weren't already stretched?
You can just prime and work on unstretched canvas. Some people put it on the floor like a rug, some people put it on the wall. No difference
@@yyyyaiza My issue is that unstretched canvas buckles after paint is applied.
I always paint unstretched on the floor and stretch it on the frame after it is ready. It works for my mixed media painting.
Beautiful print. Where do you have your prints made?
I actually printed them
Thank you
Agree as some have said music too loud

What staple gun do you use?
Do you use a brad nailer or finish nailer ? And what gage ? Thanks
18ga brad with appropriate length nails

I would go even less then that. 14x30 so you have something to pull on. Hope that helps.
@@KomarProject going 14x30 will that take away from the picture
Can I send you a picture?
Any concerns about the 2 x 4 frames warping?
As long a you keep them inside without much temp changes should be fine.
would mdf be a good choice, as it is more stable and less likely to warp.
No, they're likely far more stable than other frames, I mean, they build houses from them. I've used 2x4 (ripped down to the profiles I want on the table saw) to make a lot of canvases.
Thanks lots
Electric staple gun is much easier than the hand model. Plus it has more power to punch through the thick canvas.
love the cat love how easy you did that and have to say, love you too. love your furry face cute guy.
Thanks so much Tiger !!
Do you have a video making one simpler? I have a miter saw and basic tools.
I don’t but you can just make the corners butt joints on the miter saw. Use glue and screws and you should be fine.
Hey brother awesome video Do you know any company who prints for low price the canvas like that?
Where do you get fresh clean canvas from. (The sheet, I’ve got a load of frames to use)
I usually get them on Amazon
How do you deal with weather changes wood shrinking and expanding mostly the shrinking part its gonna make the painting bowed and look dented morphed you know what I mean lol
May i ask is it oil paint or acyrilis or any other? I am anxious that oil painting may crack.
This was acrylic paint. Oil may crack. With oil it’s good to stretch it first then paint
👍👍👍👍👍
I'm finding the tension on your canvas not very tight. would a canvas puller help?
Yes it would as starting to staple from the center and then moving out... if you start from the corners if you have excess canvas you're screwed, the other way you just pull more... That's why pro's do it the opposite way
Should canvas already be painted ?
so how do you add the outer frames to this?
Do you perhaps have schematics of what lengths are required for making the frame?
Mmmhh.. pero no se vale con un gatito ayudante jeje... gracias es un vídeo muy instructivo y alegre.
Frame shop quoted me $650 to get my 3 paintings framed... gonna try my luck with this lol
Did you paint those

What is the name of the wire you are using please?
They are not 2 by 4 inches, are they? Or what metric is he using?
I think I would want to paint after
Now how the heck did u paint it without it being on a frame?
Is there a version of this without the music?
Thank you from a fellow veteran and police officer. For some of us have seen too much.
Gary Stokes yes we have brother. But the world wouldn’t be the same without people like you. Much love !!!
I am confused why you start stapling at the corners instead the center of each side.
Super loca
Can you make frame for me. How much? 72x36
