  • Harry Hudson’s Melody Men - Happy Feet, from Paul Whiteman’s film “King Of Jazz” (Yellen - Ager) Fox-Trot with Vocal Duet (Al Bowlly & Les Allen), Edison Bell Winner, 1930 (UK)
NOBLE: Before joining in 1931 the Ray Noble’s orchestra which made him one of the brightest stars in history of the British pop-singing, Al Bowlly - a South African born British singer and guitar player - wandered across the world looking for his good luck with the various dance orchestras: from Johannesburg to India, Singapore, Surabaya, Berlin and finally - London, where he was hired at first by the Fred Elizalde’s dance band. He had also an episode with singing for Harry Hudson’s dance band, as it seems. Harry Hudson’s Melody Men was a British studio group led by Harry Hudson who was musical director for the Edison Bell Records from 1927 to the end of 1932. During this time he released many really hot dance records credited as Harry Hudson' Melody Men as well as various pseudonyms including The Blue Jays, The Bel-Tones, Gaiety Dance Band, Murray's Melody Men, The Plaza Band, Riviera Dance Band. In mid - 1930s his name disappears from the big band market in the UK.
