  • Here is the next in my collection of Dewalt 18v tool reviews, the router has many parts and so is a complex review but also i will cover the correct operation of each part so you get a good idea of the tools capability

    There is a supplied spindle centering pin and base plate centering cone with the tool to make replacing the base plates easy. From new the base plate was out of centre so familiarising with them is essential.
    Hope this helps.

    I accidentally stumbled across this video.
    I bought one of these routers in Summer 2022. It was on a good deal. However it was Feb 2023 when I actually went to use it for a little urgent job, I thought I would try it instead of my 230V router. I opened the box and just stared at a mass of bits, taking them out singularly not having a scooby doo what bits are for what and I had 2 bags of screws and plastic bits. Nothing came out easy, Dewalt screwed up with the case size for sure. I attempted to try to get something usable quickly to no avail and gave up. I was unable to get it all back in the box so had to left parts out. Meanwhile I continued with my old 230v router. Having seen this video I will go back into the shed for another go.
    Final note, I don't like the power switch, the router should have a no-volt switch to prevent start up on fitting a battery.

    Seeing the masses of DeWalt tools behind you in that shop, I was a bit worried that the review would be more of a thinly veiled paid advertisement for another DeWalt tool.
    I am glad to say that the criticisms and frank honesty here convinced me that if the tool was rubbish you would have said so. Which is in a way, much much better for DeWalt because this is the review that tipped me over the edge to investing in a router-kit from them.

      I have this tool in my work van and use very often and I can honestly say I have no issues with it at all.
      Thank you for watching and the great comment.

    Many thanks for your review, you are so right about the box, it is so badly designed. I did not notice that the "sleeve" came out until I saw you take it out. Just a pity the instruction booklet is also rubbish and difficult to follow. Still on the positive side it is a really good combo.

    I have just watched this video in full - it is excellent 👍
    Two questions for you if I may; what part would you use for doing door hinges please, and also, could you recommend a router bit to me please specifically just for doing door hinges ?
    I love DeWalt tools, but I am very new to Routers..
    Thanks, Simon.

    Hi Dave! Love the video..... I just have a quick question what do think about this router for sign making and how long the battery lasts for sign making?

    • @dmgladden
      @dmgladden  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Mike, i don't do a lot of sign making but what little i have done i can say i find in the plunge base very easy to contral and esay to see what you are doing i think that is the most important points as for battery life it's good in the jobs I do but as I don't have it in my hands for that long I have not yet had the same battery on the machine until it's drained so I couldn't say but with all my other tools the battery life is very good, hope that helps

    Is it possible to install one of the conical bush alignment bits, that are availabe, in the router....leave the actual perspex base slightly loose with the guide bush affixed to it ...and plunge the router into the guide bush then tighten the sub base firmly ...to save the tedium you mention..of aligning the base. Similar to aligning a guide bush perfectly centred, on larger machines

    That’s a great little router and I have it. Agreed the bases are grim to keep changing the bits.
    I have now bought another base that I leave set up on my circle jig. I’m very happy with mine and not having a cord is a god send.
    Runtime is fantastic on the 5ah battery.

      Hi Mark so what base have you got? is it one that came with a jig or did you get it separately maybe you could send me a link i can have a look, cheers David

    • @markjarman7819
      @markjarman7819 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dmgladden hi David. The jig is one I made. The base that came with it is the one I use on the jig. The second one I bought was from ebay £30.
      It was for the 240v corded model but there both the same other than the rubber overlay with brushless on it.
      As it goes it’s a slightly better fit than the one that it came with. It was from new a tight fitting base that you had to fight with.
      I should have sent it back. Cheers mark.

    Hi Dave just see ur video vary nice just like to point out that it well all fit in the box if u pack it right u can leave the dust bit on and if u put the black ring to the top of the rotator it will fit in the plunge base ok save time putting it on and off hope this help as iv got it use it a lot and iv got a lot more in the box to then u have anyway great video nice job mate 👍

    • @dmgladden
      @dmgladden  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Shaun, yeah I did try a few times but nothing felt good and it seems the guys that packed it in the factory didn't know how ether or I could have copied what they did but nothing was fitting from new, anyway it's all turned out quite good now as I've swapped boxes around and got a whole lot of stuff in the router box with the sleeve removed.

      I had no problems solving how it all fits in the tray and still allowing each part to be removed individually even with the dust accessories fitted..

    Hey do you have any tips for efficiently getting correct and perfect depth for when plunging into hinge jigs/ lock jigs as it takes up my time when switching from routing hinges to the locks and then back again.

    • @dmgladden
      @dmgladden  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah next time you use them measure the depth you set on the router and cut a bit of wood the same then stick that to your jig to use as a setting gauge from then on

    Bonjour, Alors pour la caisse de transport avec ce système en plastique, c'est pas très bien comme vous dites!, cela aurait pu être mieux pensé par les ingénieurs de Dewalt sur pour le prix qui n'est pas donné! Néanmoins, je verrais plus une mousse de protection, collée latéralement et sur le fond avec le gabarit de positionnement pour les batteries et le chargeur, ensuite pourquoi pas un plaque de protection et de positionner en vrac mais ordonné! Quand pensez-vous? Ensuite malgré la barrière de la langue, j'ai pu voir avec votre présentation un avis positif sur cette machine, Je possède une défonceuse Bosch filaire, mais parfois avoir une machine de ce type sur batterie est très agréable et rapide à mettre en fonctionnement, Je vous remercie pour votre avis sur cet outils 🙂🙃😉😊
