    Only reason I can think of for groups that stay with them: they don't want to leave their staff team behind. They've worked with them for YEARS and developed good bonds, routines, connections with their stylists, hair/makeup team, manager, body guards, etc. It's not as easy as just leaving all that behind, and I doubt another company that wants to sign a group or single individual wants to go through the trouble of hiring an entire staff team. So they can feel stuck there. It's sad.

      Artists fear to leave SM since they have seen what happened to the former three members of tvxq (jaejoong and the other 2) who sued SM.Despite winning the lawsuit,they have been blacklisted in the industry due to SM influence for 14 years now (since 2009).They couldn't promote on musics and variety shows, their songs are not played in radio or else.Nothing.They have been releasing great musics for more than 14 years but you will never find a single performance of them on musics shows,variety shows or end of the year awards. And for those arguing it's not the case , A LAW litterally was voted by the NATIONAL ASSEMBLY to prevent the blacklist and it's known as the ''JYJ law'' (google it,it's out there).

    One thing I've noticed is that these companies don't want their artists to be _too_ successful. It's the ones who have success who start getting ideas that they may be better off without their companies taking all their money and restricting their freedom.
    Regardless of my feelings on the JYJ case, it was not right of SM to basically blackmail other media companies by threatening to pull their artists from tv lineups and such if they ever promoted the members of JYJ. I don't think they could pull the same thing today because their influence is much less than it used to be and right now they're going through an internal power struggle.

    It's a shame how SM went down to this. They were a powerful company in the 2.000's and early 2.010's, and most (if not all) of their artists were titans in the industry.
    Now, I barely hear about SM artist anymore.
    Aespa's management is HORRIBLE, Taeyeon's management is poor and she has to do most of the work herself, EXO members are having hard issues with SM lately, Red Velvet is basically forgotten and locked in SM's basement...
    Is a shame tbh.
    I used to stan SM as a whole, but now I can't just for the lack of comebacks and promotions, and I only stan artists I truly like (Taeyeon, aespa and Red Velvet mainly).

    GOOD START! Keep refusing or terminate these big agency contracts until they learn to treat their idols better. Independent is the way to go. Own your own music rights, KNOW your financial status and actually GET paid, control your schedule and image, pick your own sound. Like to me the only reason why an idol is even apart of the company isn’t to make music but is to be an “idol”. Get famous and maybe sing some songs. But with the restrictions in placed in these big agencies contracts there no way majority are actual artists but instead puppets used to make money.

      You’re absolutely right.
      The issue with it is that by taking the path to be an independent musician, for these big name artists, the industry they belong/belonged to prior, will not let it happen.
      It’s more than just signing a contract, anything you say or do that goes against what these major companies like or tolerate, can blacklist you.
      Not only that but blackmailing, manipulation and other can play into this.

If an artist leaves it could be for various reasons, some don't want to be idols for the rest of their lives, some don't like the managment, some want to open their own company. It's just like any regular corporation worker. Newer generations are very unlikely to stay with a company for more than 5 years. Their are so many opportunties nowadays. The biggest strength of SM is Lee Soo Man but their biggest weakness is also Lee Soo Man. We all can hate him for his money greed but ngl he is a really good producer. He is a genius in making and choosing the music for his idols, so that's probably one of the reasons why a lot of SM idols decided to stay despite how badly they were being treated by the company. They respect him a lot for this. That's why the rumour about SM artists leaving has been around since that whole power fight going on in the company. People already saw this coming when Lee Soo Man left the company. That's why I'm not surprised when there is news about SM artists leaving the company.

    • @annying8717
      @annying8717 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      As you said, Lee Soo Man is indeed a very key figure in the development of SM Entertainment. His music selection and production style have become an important reason for the success of many artists who belong to SM Entertainment, which is one of the reasons why many artists choose to stay in SM Entertainment even if they are treated unfairly within the company. The artists' respect for Lee Soo Man's talent and professional ability in music is an important factor in their long-term cooperation with the company.
      However, with Lee Soo Man's departure, SM Entertainment has undergone some changes in the future music direction and management style, which no longer meet the expectations or career plans of some artists. Therefore, they finally decided to leave the company, and SM Entertainment also faced unprecedented challenges. Especially in the context of the power fight within the company, the issue of whether artists stay or go has aroused more attention.
      Although the current people who control SM Entertainment seem to be not doing a good job in maintaining the company culture, but I will still continue to pay attention to the future development trend of SM Entertainment. However, in a company like SM that relies on its soul figure, I really want to know how the company can maintain its core competitiveness and cultural heritage when this figure leaves? Especially in the entertainment industry, artists’ choice of whether to renew a contract is not only based on economic benefits, but also on trust in the company’s culture, future development direction, and the quality of music production. This is a question worth pondering.

    I also personally think it has a lot to do with Lee Soomin himself like love him or hate him. He was a real backbone for this company and people forget just how invested he was with these artist as people too. They have been numerous articles in interviews over the years for members of these groups have talked about how when they’ve had a hard time are they felt some type away just like with Jay YP they would go to him and talk to him about certain things and he’d help them through it or he try to do what he can to help them with whatever idea or Vision that he might have like this man to a certain degree definitely cared about the artistry in the artist, but like he was also a businessman at the end of the day.
    . So late getting rid of him was probably one of the stupidest things that the people at that company ever thought of doing. I genuinely believe there’s probably a handful idols who’s not going to leave because of the staff and the relationships that they’ve created with some of the people who work there, but there’s also quite a lot of them who have talked about. It have stated for years that he only reason why they stayed in. The company was because of Lee Soomin was because of the way that he did things and interacted with him, even after his step down as CEO, and he was just there is a producer and a creative mind and now that he’s gone I feel like we’re probably going to see quite a few of the OG idols, and probably even a couple of the newer ones leaving SM entertainment because there’s no reason for them to stay anymore.
    I remember seeing couple of people talking about this, but also Val why other companies don’t have idols leaving for this reason and I think we’re people tend to forget that music JYPE or HYBE while the original founders and creators of those companies have some down as CEO they’re still working and a part of those companies they did not get kicked out of the company by the people working for them. They just no longer have that CEO role they’re still the biggest shareholders in their company they still are considered producers in their company. They still are considered creative mines in their company so even though their companies might have changed in terms of who the CEO is and how it might be ran to a certain degree they still have those integrated people who, for a lot of those idols is a big factor on why they would want to stay with that company in the first place.

    Kyungsoo's case is different frome the other Exo members tho. It was clearly mentioned that he was the ONLY one who did not renew his contract. Which means all of his activities will be handled by his new established company. While the remaining members are required to Establish their own company if they wish to have somehow freedom to do what they want as a Soloists. But this condition is under the new Exclusive Contract that they signed. Which means they have no choice but to make their own company. The only member who has the freedom to do what he wants as a Soloists is kyungsoo Aka D.O...Everyone else is still under The NEW EXCLUSIVE CONTRACT.

    • @UlfaOmeg

      D.O case is the same like Kyuhyun and Super Junior Donghae & Eunhyuk. Khyuhyun even join other agency Antenna to handle his solo activity, D&E established their own management. Even during their Fancon World Tour, D&E able to manage the transistion smoothly, between under SM Management then half of the tour manage by their own company. And so far they are doing good with SM even they still able to joking about non-SM member aka Half-blood. Luckily, Super Junior know the priority is their group, so they dont have any schedule problem. Still manage to join SM Town, Kcon and many group activity under SM.
      Let's hope all SM senior idol will follow this path, the blueprint already there. No need to backlash SM too much negativity if you are not ready to set up the path for your departure. Do it like this 4 legends, Kyuhyun, D&E dan D.O.

    • @Ms_Ella

      @@UlfaOmegI'm sorry, but I'm not really familiar with the people you have mentioned but if they were able to join different company after their contract ends (As you stated) then that means Kyungsoo probably has the same case as them (Kyuhyun and others). The thing is excluding kyungsoo the other exo members are not allowed to join the other establishments. Kyungsoo, on the other hand have the freedom whether to join other well established company or choose to just make his own Entertainment. But in this case, he chose the latter. The 7 remaining exo members are required to Established their company if they want to pursue their individual career more but still they're still under SM. This condition as I mentioned is under the New Exclusive Contract that they signed. But I think they really made a wrong decision about this one 😅 I mean if we are to think about it SM still have a say with their future activity as a Soloists and probably Sm can still earn their profit from the company that they will established in the future while kyungsoo can get all for himself and Sm is now out of his individual business (Except as an Exo member). I'm pointing this out b'coz I think a lot of people sort of misunderstood his current departure situation.
      If they really want to understand his case there's a recent released article. It was well explained and the choice of words are easy to understand.

      Well Kyuhyun is Super Junior member, he is well knows as one of well known solist in Korea/Kpop industry. As well with Super Junior D&E. If you are not familiar with them, I guess you are really new into Kpop and not watching much EXO content because Super Junior known babying EXO back then. They are in the same center with Exo too.
      If you still don't recognize them, I suggest you to read articles about the departured of Kyuhyun, Donghae and Eunhyuk for their solo activity, and how they manage the issue very smooth. I guess both them and SM come with a good term about this case. And hopefully EXO can learn something from their Sunbae.
      Ahh Donghae & Eunhyuk established their own company too. So I think SM is already open with every possible opportunity, probably it's just the matter about how the idols dealing with the conract.

    • @Ms_Ella
      @Ms_Ella ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@UlfaOmeg Well it's really great that they chose to built their own company (Donghae & Eunhyuk). But as I mentioned, Sm might be open for any opportunity for the remaining Exo's members but that is still under their new exclusive contract. It's not like they have the entire freedom. SM's Condition for the new exclusive contract is to establish your own company and be somehow free to pursue your career as a soloist, if not you can't do whatever you want as an individual artist as well. Kyungsoo is the only one who has the freedom to do whatever he desire in the future without SM butting in his business. I'm proud of kyungsoo tho, he really stick to his decision despite all the pressure. SM did him dirty with his talents he can be much more bigger than he is already. So this news is really a good take for him. He really made a right decision of not renewing or else he will be stock more in that dungeon.
      Btw, I've heard of Kyuhyun and I know the he is one of the best vocalists in K-pop as well. I also like his voice I am just not really familiar with the remaining ones as I am very much focusing more on my fav 😅 I hope you don't take this in a negative way.

      @Ms_Ella I still don't get it when you mention he can do whatever he wants as a soloist. If he still wants to work as an EXO, of course D.O., and the rest of EXO members have to agree with SM conditions. How they will make the group running if they don't set the rule about group project. It will just make the group more scramble. I don't think SM will let EXO leave either.
      I heard this a lot, that SM never disband any of their group. It's a tough battle here, but hopefully, EXO can find their way to satisfy their needs and the fandom.

      @@SadiaIslamShouki EXO don’t have their own label, but individual members DO. When I say left, I mean cut ties completely. As long as they’ll remain active as EXO under SM, they’re technically SM artists. The only they won’t be and still be EXO, is if they all just leave.
      Lay is a different situation all together. He was never going to re-sign under SM. And the reasoning has nothing to do with SM and it’s management. He’s a successful soloist, actor, and personality in China who has his own successful company. The second he went to China and then didn’t promote with EXO again… the writing was on the wall. He may be a member in perpetuity, but his presence is more spiritual than physical. Barring an appearance in China, you probably won’t see him with EXO again promoting.
      But you are right about it being difficult to see them promote as EXO with busy solo schedules. Some fans seem to think them leaving SM will get more group activities but it’s doubtful.

The video at 0:58-59 showed a black man’s hand holding and discussing matters of a contract while saying the word slave at the same time is discriminatory. This small part automatically threw me off balance since I’ve worked in law/discrimination etc. SMs unfair treatment and greed will be their downfall. I hope you understand. Thank you.

    I'm pretty sure it's just them looking for better opportunities they believe they deserve. SM can no longer offer these idols much besides a better contract and if they can't offer one that's good enough for them then the idol is going to leave. Exo's (and the member's names) are so marketable it would silly for them to agree to a contract that doesn't benefit them.

    Let’s not forget that SM has the worst profit distribution in the whole industry. One would think that they have more than enough budget to promote their artists properly. Sadly their tactic is to make them famous enough to make money, but not too much that the artists will have more power over them.
    I’m just basing this on their 3rd gen groups cause that’s when kpop went huge globally, but if they did their job correctly, EXO and Red Velvet would be at the same playing field as bts blackpink and twice. By that I mean performing at these huge stadiums all over the world, promoting officially in the western market, pushing thru with the collabs, performing at non kpop festivals. I don’t know about rv but EXO wasn’t even given a world tour! They mostly perform in Asia yet they’re still up there in the ranks. Could you just imagine if they both got that western debut.

    NCT DREAM’s last album shows it all. How can a company us an opened cd box as an album image? How can they tease a video for Poison and never release it? You spent the money for production and marketing so why not use it? If you are going to hang on to these kids for years wouldn’t you want the revenue to keep them making you money for your company? I really don’t understand. It’s so sad for these kids who have given them their lives and talents only to be gaslighted.

    When BangPD of BigHit and HYBE wanted a share of SM because he wanted to promote in the west all Kpop artists after BTS basically open the door for Kpop artist. BangPD believe in the talented artists of SM but their stopped BangPD from doing so all because they thought he only wants money. BigHit is now the biggest music company in South Korea and the 4th biggest in the west alongside Universalcand Sony Music etc. But the SM management or top honchos only wanted money and look what's happening to them now. BangPD really wanted to promote KPop artists in the West not just HYBE. BTS is considered the world's biggest band whether you like it or not. They have positioned themselves at the top and BangPD that other Kpop artists to join BTS and make it big too. But SM honchos did everything to stop him. So BangPD is just promoting the BigHit and HYBE artists in the West. So TXT le sserafim Seventeen ENHYPEN is now making noise at gets all the attention. And ofcourse BTS members are doing their solo projects before enlisting in the ARMY. JKook is really making waves in the west now and even Suga after his successful world tour has his own TV talk show. BangPD gave his artists freedom to grow as artists and support. His artists go to him for guidance unlike SM management didn't really support their artists that's they are leaving.

      KPOP works on a debt system, so you either owe tons of money to the company when you first start out, or they pay for all your training to the point that you feel obligated to take whatever deal the company gives you. Most of the groups when they first start out range from 15-early 20s, so the labels also prey on them being too young to realize they need lawyers

Now they are doing the same to the insanely talented NCT 127. So sad to see all these groups that has amazing potential to breakthroughs to Western market, just wasted. There is a lot wrong with how SM and other companies treat idols, but that's for profit. The theory that SM reduces groups' activity to pressure them makes no sense whatsoever, because they would lose money in the process. Notice also how in another video YG idols say they envy SM idols because they get a lot more comebacks etc. I think the reasons are much simpler: They emphasize quality instead of quantity, they don't want to oversaturate the market, and they don't have more capacity.

    • @patriciamezarina2496
      @patriciamezarina2496 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Why don’t u just go ahead and say you Stan SM. It’s for profit? At least other major labels like HYBE, YG, JYP pay their artists more for the work they do. YG artists might say they envy SM artists but it’s because of what you just said it’s because they have more ‘comebacks’ which most groups under YG don’t have. Even so after everything that’s been unveiled about SM I doubt any other artists or groups from any of the other BIG 3 groups (apart from groups under SM) would actually want to be under SM. U saying that it’s because they value ‘quality over quantity’ is the same excuse as what YG does with their groups (eg Balckpink) they say the EXACTLY same thing. Except that everyone knows it’s the company’s strategy to only release 1 album a year because it keeps the fans wanting for more and buy it as soon as it’s released. The idols are pressured to stay under SM. Like you can even look up articles about how when Taeyeon (female soloist) was nearing the end of her contract with SM, there were no staff whatsoever escorting or protecting her. It’s highly suspicious and at this point it’s like SM aren’t even bothering to hide it. Like some EXO members themselves said it’s because in their contracts there is a condition where if they don’t meet certain sales or criteria then their contract AUTOMATICALLY renews and they HAVE to stay under SM.
      Here is a clip of some members of EXO themselves hinting to their unfair contracts:

    My top 3 reasons as to why an artist won't leave could be that they still may have debt to pay down. So being employed with a company they owe money to that pays most if not all of their expenses is just easier to stay with than quitting and finding another company that pays less and or none of the artist expenses. Not to mention the previous company would still be owed the artists debt. 2 - They like the fame, credit, and benefit that comes with being under a big company even if said company they are with are sh*tty, and 3 - Not all artists are unhappy with their companies. They could very well have decent contracts that us fans are unaware of, even if it may look bad from the outside.
