Always remove the negative terminal first. This effectively removes it from the chassis and all the potential points you can make accidental contact. Then wire up the positive lead to your accessories and tighten them down. As the final step, reconnect the negative back and you’re done. Looking forward to seeing the Denali install.

Added CanSmart to my 1200GS today: The ring that goes on the red battery screw had heat shrink too long, down under the screw and adjacent ring terminal: electricians are not allowed to have any wire insulation under the switch and receptacle screw heads for good reason. I trimmed mine on both sides of the ring. Buy and store an extra 30 micro fuse or two to carry on your trips. The long "horn" cord can also feed insulated 1/4" spades crimped onto lights with just two wires, headlights or rear lights. The CanSmart can majically dim these as well, maybe just 50%. Denali sells a pigtail that goes in/onto its 3 wire connectors so you can solder or crimp on a wide variety of your 12 volt things or just waterproof an open ended connector (be sure to insulate each tail separately). They don't sell the microUSB waterproof plug, but my pigtail order requested on too. You can update and program the CanSmart up in your office before you take it to the garage. Hope this helps some.

Am installing one now on a 2023 f900xr and not sure where to find canbus plug in. 2 places seem to have that connector - ,1 with similar gauge and colored wires way back under passenger seat and one with a few heavier gauge wires very close to the circular part that recognizes the key. I have a pic but don't think I can share it here

Our Canbus was by the battery I think. It's been so long since I installed it.

Since you can use the control wheel in your left hand... Could you please show us how it looks at the TFT screen?

Sure! I'll have to produce that in a few months though. Bikes are now in storage.

I'm still trying to figure out why you would need something like this. You never said. Is it a way to wire additional lights? Other things?

Most people who found this video found it because they’ve purchased a Denali accessory that requires this plug (Brake Light, Horn, Auxiliary Lights, powerlet). If you search my channel for Denali, you’ll see there are a lot of other videos where I install other accessories.

Hello, could I connect the LED lights directly to the can bus connector under the handlebars?

Hi, how do you remove the canbus plug, on my 750GS it is blocked with the black plastic cover on the top? Thank you

I believe we fished it out with some wire or cord or something alternatively, if you have a torx 40 or 45 you can unscrew the top luggage rack and then remove the black plastic cover and it makes the job much easier.

Oh, almost forgot the luggage rack T 40s are Loctite it or thread locked in so they’re really hard to remove just be patient

Does installing any of this void factory warranty?

Hi Scott, no-sir. I've never in 6 years of doing CanBus modifications had an electrical damage occur from one of these interface dongles. I've had these dongles fail and Clearwater and Denali send me a new one but not one that damages the bike or voids the warranty. I've had a CanBus interface on 4 different BMWs.
