As we continued traveling along the north island, we stayed at Pohara Marae. During one of our nights we engaged in a cultural exchange with the local community and had a great time doing so. It was one our first real experiences to exchange our Native American culture with that of the Maori people. This is two of our favorite songs we experienced in Aotearoa. I

It is a taonga bestowed upon us mai te runga rawa when we see our tamariki joining in with us.That young tama at the back is our future and an inspiration to all our rangatahi.

I've never seen anyone perform so gracefully in 'SHORTS'. That wahine inbetween the one with the green hoodie and the other with the black jacket is stunningly gracious. Thank you all for such a wonderful performance. So naturally, so awesomely amazing.

I can tell you as I'm from the Marae so my Marae got the word cause our original name was zenana and our founder was told that our Marae couldn't up hold the name since zenana is a prestige name for Maori and we were poor so our founder moved the Marae and changed the name to pohara to keep us humble and the people singing are all my family and im happy that you were interested in how my Marae got its name

Wow never seen Toia mai performed like that that was awesome. Can someone please tell me the history of the marae? I’m real curious to know why it is called Pohara Marae. Is the Marae a shared one between different iwi? Was it established built for everybody like all people and not just Maori? I mean was Pohara Marae built for pakeha and other races from the local community so those people in its community also had a place to call home a Marae they can call theirs if you know what I mean. Pohara means poor so yeah was it built for homeless and for anyone of any race? I’m interested to know how it got it’s name. Thanks
