    go with the 34" tyres , seems like the best option. a bit lighter a only 1/2" lower from the axle to the ground, gives you a bit more wheel arch clearance and is 100% legal , maxis Razr or Yokohama G003 be a good option as both are heavy duty (10ply) and great mud tyres that are fairly quiet and get good milage

    I'm just about to collect our new caravan......now thinking about going back in size from a 35. Also thinking about gearing it down though.....🤔

    As a fellow Nitto trail grappler user (33" on my GU) I agree they are a great tyre, one of only a few that are made of real rubber. The downside of them is the weight - they are a very heavy tyre. This exacerbates the gyroscopic effect markedly and plays havoc with auto change points and fuel economy - I'm tipping your Y62 on 35" Nitto Trail Grappler is not very economical anytime, especially towing :) But you'll probably never need the spare.

      Thats about it, big difference in fuel economy 34s to 35s

    Thanks Chris, I will definitely be staying with the stock rubber for towing.

    Hey, when you mention 34" is better for towing etc, what metric size are you referring?

    • @OzPatrol66
      @OzPatrol66  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      305 65 r18 is just under 34
      I ran the bfg a/t this size, were good, halfway between standard 32.6 and a 35 which is usually about 34.6

    Are 35's with a 2 inch lift legal in any Australian state, that would be something to verify

    • @OzPatrol66
      @OzPatrol66  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good point
      I run 33.6 all terrains or 35 inch nitto muddies.....i know you can have 50mm lift whether its suspension, body or tyres. But 35 inch tyres only gives you 1 inch overall height lift, thinking i might be pushing the boundaries having both. The rules change so often i may have to google that. Do you know?

    • @ausguy4385
      @ausguy4385 ปีที่แล้ว

      No... 50mm total without engineering. Some states are 75mm.
      Also tyres can only be 50mm bigger then plated. So only 34 is legal.
      So no 99% of patrols will be lift and 35s... tyres are over and total is over.
      Be less the 5% to 10% that would have done a gvm and had all the engineering done

    Do you really need 35 though ? this car has no low hanging leaf pack and diff center in the middle

      Yeah 34s no worries, although if they are very wide, can hang below diff

      Yeah, like it more than all the alternatives and as youve probably worked out i put it to the test often. Its a good vehicle. Not real keen on the nissan service techs tho.

    Agree’d with everything you said except the 62 looking tuff… it’s easily the ugliest Nissan ever produced! fantastic VK56 motor with an outstanding gearbox both of which I wish I had the coin to put in my 01 GU.

    • @OzPatrol66
      @OzPatrol66  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha, I love the look of them once molded but stock, very ugly, then again most big cars are ugly til they get 35s and offset
