Incredible. Thank you for taking the time to prepare and share this. I’m learning so much about Kabuki and its artists from you. ❤❤
The concentration and spirit of the dancers was impressive. Thank you very much for your valuable video from Japan.
How sad that we lost him 😢valuable gem of kabuki
Thanks for this video! I really enjoyed learning more history about one of my favorite plays
Kabuki is just fascinating. I'd love to see a live performance
Brother, Kichiemon II was an indomitable force of nature when it came to tachiyaku roles. For me, Benkei, Kumagai Jirō Naozane and Sakuramaru will always be my favorite roles in relation to Kichiemon II, as he always balanced toughness, stoicity and emotion to make his performances unique.
Well, by the way, I need to vent: I'm sorry if I haven't been commenting on the channel's most recent videos. But unfortunately I had a panic attack and ended up having to isolate myself for a while. And since I have anxiety and depression, you see...
So once again I apologize...
No need to worry Mavio! I'm sorry that you are going through all that, and hope that it gets better soon.
You pointed out that Ichikawa Danjūrō and Matsumoto Kōshirō are the only actors who portray Benkei in Kanjinchō regularly nowadays. I think the reason why is because kabuki is not as commonplace as it once was. As a traditional Japanese art form, it's important to preserve the tradition, and putting out videos like this so foreigners can understand is one of the best ways to reach the wider world. Keep doing what you're doing!
I am 17 going on 18 my interest of kabuki started when I was 10 i think that Kabuki should be more widely known!
So glad to hear of young people interested in kabuki! I wish I knew about Japanese theatre when I was 10. Thank you for the kind word of support!
You rise a good point, although the number of performances have not diminished significantly over the last several decades. In the last generation there were 4 great Benkei actors, but Kichiemon II died without sons, and Nizaemon XV had not passed the role of his only tachiyaku student (Kataoka Ainosuke VI). Hopefully more other actors rise to the occasion!
Great kabuki video.R.I.P great kabuki actor.
引っ込みのシーン何回見ても凄すぎる。。。
五十年、二代目を観てきた❤
Why isn't Hakuo II performing the role this year? He would have fulfilled his brother's dream
He would have been the perfect choice, but I'm not sure his health would permit it. Lately he has been playing smaller roles in plays with his son or grandson, once every six months or so. He has definitely earned to take things easy, and I'd assume his 2021 Benkei was his last, although I'd be happy to be wrong!
Are there any resources to watch kabuki with english translations? Im really interested haha
