Stairway Portage - Duncan Lake to Rose Lake in the BWCA

Description: The 78-rod portage from Duncan Lake to Rose Lake. This is the famous Stairway Portage. There is a fabulous view of Rose Falls and all those steps to look forward too. Going from Duncan Lake to Rose Lake is the easy direction, as it is all downhill. The Border Route Trail intersects the Stairway Portage near the middle. Also, if you head to the right down the Border Route Trail a short distance from the intersection, you will come to a rickety wooden bridge (shown in video) that crosses the creek just above the falls. Just across this bridge on the right is where the Caribou Rock Trail connects to the Border Route Trail. This is in the BWCA.

Stairway gives you a nice break in the middle to check out the nice waterfall, before continuing. One of the more interesting portages.
