I herd what i thought was campers. Never saw a canoe. All of the sudden a Cow was looking at me like WTH. The "voices" were the bull grunting. Apparently we interrupted their moment on the landing of Burnt.
I camped there one cold October. Saw a bull and had a cow come 10 yards on the portage to Burnt.

Campsite 439 was occupied. I got two out of three on this lake 438 and 440.

The mosquitos are still there! They outlasted the railroad. Probably some of the worst skeeters I've encountered in the BW.
Impressive! Have you or will you attempt from Kawishiwi side? Because both areas are already busy, I think it would be cool if the portage was maintained. I'd like to go between the two on a daytrip.
It was sort of spur of the moment to do this, so I wasn't well prepared. There are some threads about it on BWCA.com. Yes, it makes a loop possible without leaving the BWCA. Can't imagine too many people would use it to jump from Kawishiwi into Perent (can see why Forest Service wouldn't like that due to quotas). I will try it again. I want to do the whole thing. It's easy to reach from the Kawishiwi Entry point, so will probably try starting from that side on next attempt. The way to do it I think is to load up Avenza map on phone with waypoints, so if you lose the trail, you can just pick it up again at next waypoint. A waypoint like every 100 feet or so. Compass backup in weird case where phone fails. I knew my way back to Perent Lake with compass heading in case I couldn't reacquire the trail, but huffing through woods off trail is hard work and takes a lot of time.
people that use trails should help maintain them in my opinion,bring a saw or brush axe on your next trek though the brush,or these trails dissappear quick😁

most times i turn off the volume and let the video play on a big tv while i do some other things in the room.this time i turned it up full to enjoy the paddle work!
The streams are the most interesting visually to paddle since the scenery is up close. Had to edit the video a bit since there were so many canoes coming along. The paddle up the creek in the other direction will be better since it was evening and there weren't any people, so the video is clean.
Like so many other portages in the BWCA, this is one is also a mine field of boulders.
Luckily this was a short portage.
