What an awesome video of such a quintessentially Bauhaus (where function comes before form , or in this case , both were created simultaneously and have par expression , giving it its natural yet simple attractiveness) piece , that looks good in any environment , pure class 👍🏻👍🏻 keep it up :) I think it’s masculine without being brutal = beauty and class. By the way , love the part about brevity , clarity . Those words are good as a life lesson or communication lesson . :)
One of my favourite watches but when upgrading why didn't they improve the terrible lume, use applied markers and a matching date window. And a 38 case and genuine in house (if I'm being picky...)
I purchased this watch on the steel bracelet in Canada 2 months ago. Today I bought the white hybrid strap from Under the Cuff. I hope it’s worth the $104 Can. They offered a 10% discount, but with the $17 Can shipping it was still $110 Can. My watch runs fast, +4 seconds a day. If you place it crown down when not wearing it, it keeps perfect time. I went on a 4 day golf trip, and when I came home it was still ticking away, almost perfect time. The bracelet if very comfortable and the lume is not great, but sufficient for a semi-dress watch. The watch is very east to read, but not the date wheel. I like the white background, but the black numbers should be thicker. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase.
The Mk XX can definitely handle a rubber two piece strap. It’s versatility as a sporty dress watch or a dressy sports watch means it looks great on everything from a NATO to a bracelet. Congrats on the purchase, wear it in good health and will get the strap out to you first thing. You won’t be disappointed! Thanks for your comment and your custom.
Do you still have this watch? How well did it keep time? I’ve read some mixed things about it. Some say it’s spot on, others say it runs fast as it goes through power reserve. I’m seriously looking at one
Hi Rish! That’s a great suggestion. For info, the straps shown on the watch from Under The Cuff are as follows: Hybrid - White Fineweave Nato - Sand Bicolour Nato - Storm Sharks Tooth 2 Piece - Bronze Hope this helps 👍😎
I got approximately +4 secs, on one day. But that is a very unscientific test, just me trying to sync the watch with my phone and wait 24hrs. So it’s not measured on a professional timegraph.
IMO, this watch is the true definition of an understated watch. It is the opposite of a DJ with a fluted bezel, and jubilee bracelet. It is very loud and shiny.
Congratulations, and nice review! I got the blue version last week. I passed on the Le Petit Prince for exactly the same reasons that I got the XX. I've had several watches from different brands across the years, Omega, Blancpain, JLC, Sinn, Nomos, but I always felt there was something lacking. They were either too big, or lacks WR, not too accurate, or doesn't have quick exchange system, there was always some compromise somewhere. But with the XX, it's like all my wishes came true, once the metal bracelet comes out, that is. It's been quite some time since I got the watch and really felt that, yeah, this will be it for me for a very long time to come.
@@underthecuffofficial This piece is so versatile that you can dress it up or down, so yes I am not against swtiching straps, but I would prefer them to come with the quick change system. NATO would also be good, but just worried about scratches on the polished part of the solid back. I got an IWC rubber strap also in blue, which I am wearing now due to the humid weather. Once it gets cooler I'll change to the bracelet, or back to the original leather strap if that is not available soon. I would also like dressier leather straps so I am hoping IWC to come out with one, or third party manufacturers adopt the quick change system. I am not sure about patents, but since it just clips on to a normal spring bar, you won't be limiting your clientelle to just IWC users.
One downgrade from the Mark 18 is the change from a black date disc to white. The black one blended with the dial and did a lot to improve the symmetry that is always lost by adding a date window at 3:00.
That point is always going to be up for debate as it comes down to personal taste. My personal thoughts are that the white date wheel gives the impression of filling the blank where the 3 number would be and provides continuity in the radial sequence.
That does seem to be the more common approach. I wish they would do what Vertex did with its dive watch and just offer both date and no date versions. Either way, I’m quite tempted by this (and the outgoing model).
Matt: all the best to your channel! 1 quick tip: your sound feels distant and with unnecessary reverberation. Was your mic properly positioned with the right sensitivity level? Bring it closer to you or get a lavalier mic that you plug directly into your camera via cable or wireless. You will sound much better.
Congratulations!!!! I went with the older Mark XVI which is fantastic and very special too. I like it a tiny bit more, but that's personal preference. The XX is amazing... Some of the differences I've noticed on my XVI: - matte black hands (the whole dial has no shiny metallic surfaces (reminding me of the stark white on black contrasts and tool look of my old dear Omega Speedmaster 1861) - missing numerals give it a cross hair look. Nice balance - batons and triangle are 3D pieces of lume which is applied (similar to Tudor Pro) - Black date window - triangle pushed up and is part of the minute track These older marks are also superb and can be had at a good price (mine was £2700 on Chrono24)... So for anyone on a budget, I strongly recommend it I would have probably gone with the xx if I could afford it, and especially when it comes out on a bracelet, but I'm glad that I picked out the one I did Really loving this brand now and my love of Rolex is very quickly disappearing... I'm glad that AD never called about my DateJust!! I feel free from the Rolex hype, which allows me to discover wonderful brands like this Hallelujah!!
Thanks for the great review, Just received my new Mark XX, with blue dial,,,,I like it a lot,,,much improved over the xviii. I am now waiting for the steel bracelet to be released,,,would also like a rubber strap for this watch.
Great review! I've been eyeing the new Mark XX since they came out, just wish I had a local shop to try one on. Love the on-the-fly micro adj for the bracelet and quick change system. Plus it looks great on almost all straps. Your wrists appear larger than 17.5cm (6.9" ) ? I have 8" wrists so it's good to get an idea from your pics. Thanks!!
Great video mate. Planning to buy one with the bracelet in October for my birthday. It will be my first IWC. Also, the 8 year warranty makes this watch more attractive.
Thanks Hemant! Yes, I was told about October for the bracelet to be released. For a first IWC, you can’t get better really for the value. Solid provenance and an superb watch in its own right.
Tried one on today and loved it. It looks like it could cost £100 from a small distance which is fine with me. The strap felt mega stiff and apparently the price is going up a lot in September 😬
very good review, still I believe the most beautiful mark design was mark xv spitfire black dial (dimensions and dial were amazing such a shame they dont make dial like that anymore)
Thanks for sharing! Loved seeing more of this watch, that has gotten very little coverage so far. Your photos are great as well on Instagram. I'll be adding this watch next year for sure, as an upgrade to my Stowa Flieger. Subscribed and looking forward to more content. My one piece of constructive criticism would be a little bit more camera time for the watches (close ups) rather than the majority of the video being so far away from the watch. I definitely think it's nice to show your face and establish a personality, but just something that I wanted to share as you look to grow. Best of luck!
IWC is a brand that has engaged in ridiculous overpricing. I don’t know how much value they put on their metal straps because on a leather strap this watch is £3000 at best. indeed, you can get the same movement for exactly that money. I’m not sure how much more money their printed dial costs than the printed dial on a Tudor. I would agree that the IWC printed dial is the best one, and I do like the design, but Price is way over the mark.
Agree with u that Iwc is overpriced but then again so does every other luxury brand. Rolex is also overpriced if not for its resale value and if Iwc has the same resale value, overpriced or not people will flock to buy it.
This is exactly what I said about it, when you look at it on a leather strap, it should cost about £1000 less than the bracelet because what you’ve basically got is a watch that is no better than a tutor ranger cost no more money to produce.
Buy a Laco Pro. 200m water resistant. You can custom build your watch and have a sapphire case back with a decorated Top grade Sellita SW200 inside. Case finishing, date and logo options…. 3 sizes and 2 types Flieger dials to chose from. All that for around $1500 for a fully spec watch. And Laco is one of the 5 companies which supplied watches for the Luftwaffe, and is founded 1925….. Ton of pedigree. IWC is just an overpriced, heavily marketed brand. And you’ll be paying for that 4x the price for an inferior IMO product. I own a Laco Pro in 40mm and it runs +1 sec./day already for a year since I got it. Beautiful with its heat blued hands shining under the double anti-reflective coated domed sapphire crystal.
I don't like the date window. Then I see the lume. Instant deal breaker. No thank you. I would rather have a Stowa or Laco if I really want a field/pilot watch.
