    Do I need an irrigation system? No since I don't own a garden or even a yard in my tiny house. But did I finish watching the whole 25 minutes of video on how to swap out your irrigation system? Definitely YES! I'm so thankful you've been uploading daily so I get to see the outdoors through your garden everyday. It has been a blessing especially under quarantine and I'm stuck at my home 24/7 staring these 4 walls.

    I often lament the wet weather we get here in Ireland, but when I see how much work goes into watering in a dry climate, I'm suddenly very grateful for all that rain! Thanks for the video guys 🤗

    • @kevinrowan4464
      @kevinrowan4464 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Another Hibernian? How joyous! I was curious if we would need ne over here, an irrigation system I mean. Or is it just a dry climate thing?

    • @ClaireBear8031
      @ClaireBear8031 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@kevinrowan4464 I think there are some scenarios where it might be worth it, for instance a garden with a ton of containers, a polytunnel, or if one is gardening on a very large scale. But for the average Irish garden I don't think it's necessary. It's a relatively short period of the year that flower beds need to be watered, and i've never once watered the lawn!

      Yes same here. I wanted to install a drip irrigation but we get so much rain all year round that It's kind of unnecessary. It's only 2-3 summer months that I need to water my plants every day and that's fine because I have only a middle sized garden and its manageable.

    • @Bamboo4U2
      @Bamboo4U2 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ClaireBear8031 exactly. I'm in New Jersey. We get a ton of rain; sometimes way too much *and* I'm on city water (it's not hard water) so for the few weeks during the dog days of summer, if we don't get enough rain, we can get by with a cheap sprinkler. I get the convenience of it and the aesthetics (if properly mulched to conceal it), but cost-wise, I'm not convinced drip irrigation is worth it.

    I love when you guys do these irragation videos. My older brother does this for a living. He is the hardest working man I know. This is his busiest time of year getting all his clients ready for the spring and summer seasons here in PA.
    I heard Aaron mention about systems that arr run from indoors. That's the big concern he was having this year with the current virus going around. He was just telling me recently, many of the properties he services, has their access boxes inside their garages or basements. Watching yiu guys tackle this makes me admire my brother more for all the hard word he had to do. Thanks for sharing.

    Wow, I had no idea this sort of thing existed and it's exactly what we need. We have old valves that used to have electrical decades ago, but that's long gone. Have you thought about growing some big gourds on the teepee or a fence? That would be fascinating for your son, and us grown ups too. Hi Aaron, I am not an irrigation contractor but I have an underground sprinkler system in my yard so I am familiar with the setup. Looking at your 4 independent controller boxes, I think there is a solution for you without having to use those Hunter node controllers on each box. You can get a 16-zone (4 boxes multiplied by 4 lines) controller box unit and wire each of those solenoids to the new controller. The nice thing about this setup is that you no longer need to use batteries since the new box runs off of an AC adapter and you can program each zone for day and watering duration. You can also mount the 16-zone controller inside your house, garage, barn, or wherever it is close and just run the wires to the 4 boxes. You may not have the bluetooth control via your phone with the new 16-zone controller but it is basically a set and forget setup once you have determined the length of watering time for each zone.

    Have you ever tried a blow torch? Just heat the tube with a few seconds of heat to soften and expand the plastic. When it cools it'll retract and create a nice tight seal. It makes it considerably easier to cram joints and couplers together. It saved me from some very sore fingers when setting up my own irrigation system! Love your videos, they do so much to brighten my day!

Laura, it’s going to be interesting when Benjamin gets older to see if you will allow him to take the spot light once in a while where he would provide commentary and instructions! Aaron, thank goodness you’re the technical expert because the watering system still looks very complicated to me!

    My new drip goes in this year for the raised beds and hanging baskets. Thank you for the nudge. 💜💙

    Omg Benjamin is so so cute with his lawnmower. Have you ever thought about setting up one irrigation box for your in tire yard and would you do this on the new property so you don't have irrigation boxes everywhere

      For a large property the 'mainline' travels to the 'zones'. Whence the valve boxes. A smaller property a guy can get away with one valve box. Also there is so much componentry in a sprinkler system that needs to be accessible. The valve box was created for this access.

    That’s nice that you can take a photo of the area for the online app.

    You make this look so easy...gives me a little confidence in at least trying when the water comes on in April. Do you ever do consulting work? I have 1.2 acre blank slate in Middleton... I just need someone to draw me a pretty yard!

    Hi Laura, really waiting to see your gird drip set up. The question I always have is when you have a patch of bulbs or spinach, does the drip have to run around everything so every plant gets water or is it enough to circle the drip around the patch? Thanks for everything you post, you have always been my inspiration to do more in the garden!

    Aaron should be in more videos (of course to add onto his huge workload lol) but also because he’s naturally admirable like Laura is and I feel like I love Garden Answer because it’s a gardening channel and also a family channel. I watched this whole video not for the topic, but because I love the gardening content and family content💝 AARON IS PART OF FAMILY CONTENT and should be seen more. Like if you’re with me 😂

    Loved this one! Even though I wouldn’t need it on this scale, it’s so helpful to see how you’ve implemented it. Thanks for the consistent, wonderful content!

    Looking forward to the videos showing you changing over to the grid system from your “Willy nilly” style.

    Thank you! Even when you just run around making repairs, I learn something.

    I saw a large well at the center of the new property. It housed all watering needs but looked like something out of a fairy book.

    The best time to do any repairs and plant replacement, and for those who do not have a drip system, "new water hoses"! Every single one I have has kinks and they all have bad names right now!
