    Sadly, I'll have to cross Barona off of my list of casinos I'd like to visit someday. Can't have a beer while playing VP and the autohold would make me nuts. Enjoyed your video, though!

    Funny you mentioned that the Casino may have had the machines feature auto hold in order to attract new players. When I first started playing VP, it was on an auto hold machine. I didn't know any different until, I met a machine without the feature. It was more fun to select my own holds but, I value the time I played the machines with the feature because, I carried what I had learned onto the other machines and enjoyed the play and mystery so much more.
    Thank you, Professor.

    I think the autohold on games you are unfamiliar with would be a learning tool. The bonus poker holds looked alright but I would be very interested what would happen with a flush containing four to a royal. Any thoughts about the other game holds?

    • @johnsworldofvideopoker
      @johnsworldofvideopoker  ปีที่แล้ว

      Practice on a simulator for whichever game you like playing is a necessity in order to have a shot at hitting Royals. But, for games that a player is not that familiar with (but is just learning to play) it may not be a bad idea to find an auto hold machine of low coin denomination (such as 5¢, 10¢, or 25¢) to use as a quick refresher course just before getting on a high coin denomination machine, as a reminder of the different strategies used for each game. (Sort of like a warm-up😁). I’ve gotten a little in my play lately, and need to get back to daily simulator practice in preparation for high coin denomination play.🙌🏻🙌🏻🌎

      Wow. Thanks for the info, Dale, I appreciate that. Under the right circumstances, the King-10 may be the perfect long strategy hold depending on the other cards that happened to be displayed on that particular hand. When an uncommon or weird hand shows-up, I always take a photo of it, and then when I get home, I’ll look it up on an analyzer and see if it makes sense. I really appreciate your input. The first poker vlt machines I ever saw (30yrs ago) that were in bars from where I grew up only had 1 game, Poker with 2 Jokers and it auto held the best hand. You could cancel the auto hold and hold whatever cards you wanted to. A Royal Flush paid 4000 credits.

    I’ve seen another auto hold feature on an old joker poker game called Trey Trey during a live stream at El Cortez. It’s similar, just push the button as fast as you want. I think Barona’s auto hold is to get people sitting there mindlessly pushing the button thereby pushing money through faster. House always has the edge, if you make it accessible, less intimidating for casuals, more people playing, more money pushed through. Compared to a casual player who would sit there for a while thinking what to hold.

    • @LuckyLegionSlots
      @LuckyLegionSlots ปีที่แล้ว

      Wanted to add the Pot O Gold machines at Soboba has an auto hold also. Pala has old Pala Gold machines which look similar cabinets with the custom “Pala Gold” name. I think that might have a similar JoB with auto hold?

    John I’ve never seen auto hold and based on watching you, I don’t care for it, way too of a fast pace. I think they do it to get more hands out of the player. Also, I enjoy your commentary on when and why you hold particular cards in different hands.

    Greetings again sir! It is kinda weird for the auto hold. Makes me wonder if everything is predetermined. Its almost turning video poker into a slot machine. It could be faster, could be more of a precise way of playing, or it could take too much control away from the player. I did watch a slot tech reboot a machine once at Pechanga and noticed that the machine had an IP address. I realized that the machines are networked to a server. Makes me wonder? This is why Mom and I like the old VP machines. No outside forces controlling anything. Anyways, that's my 2 cents. Thanks again sir!

    I’ve seen auto hold machines on cruise ships and the U1 gaming machines will also have the option of auto holding for a lower percentage or choosing your own cards. U1 video poker machines tend to have somewhat nonstandard pay tables though. Part of going to play video poker is for some intellectual challenge, just pressing the buttons over and over again is no fun. Thanks again for showing a new casino.

    John, the auto-hold is very fascinating to me...from the perspective of the casino, why offer this when most players would make mistakes? Is it to more closely mimic slots, is it offered as a perk for players, or is it some sort of law in that particular jurisdiction?

    • @johnsworldofvideopoker
      @johnsworldofvideopoker  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the auto-hold feature comes with a lowered pay table, and I’m not aware that there’s any law regarding its use (?). It is something that can be optional for the game when they set up their machines at the casino. Great question. Thank you!🙌🏻🙌🏻🌎

  • @davidc6928
    @davidc6928 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    John, are you sure that the video poker machines are class 3? The auto hold just seems like a class 2 machine. It is too much like the class 2 machines here in washington State. Instead of holding the cards for you, the class 2 machines here have a match card that fills in the mistake a person may make when they are supposed to get a winning hand.
    I am really leary of this auto hold. Just seems fishy.
    Another thing, Barona Casino states, on their sight that they have the loosest slots, video poker, blackjack, and roulette in San Diego. I have played on video poker machines that are loosened, and they play terrible. I couldn't get a 4 of a kind for the life of me. I feel like something is not right at this casino.

    • @johnsworldofvideopoker
      @johnsworldofvideopoker  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’m sure that it is a Class 3 (Random Number Generator) driven machine, but nonetheless, I much prefer a machine where the player chooses their own cards, otherwise, what would be the point in gambling? I’m leery about some machines too. Best bet is to stick with a traditional RNG driven machine. Thank you for your comments.🙌🏻🙌🏻🌎

I remember when I (regrettably) let that dream go in 8th grade, when my thoughts, could not imagine at the time, that I would ever get find a way to live in California, so I gave up on that dream. Go figure, that years later, a dream long forgotten, would find its way on to TH-cam. If I had to do it all over again, I would have gone to film school at UCLA or USC, and I’d be a film director of some sorts today. If my channel gets big enough, I may very well write and produce some short films of my own. At 67, I’m realistically out of time, so I may just have to keep what I’m doing on TH-cam.
