haha for the previous tutorial I tried to do that thing of projecting an image on the plans but I couldn't do it, it's good that you released the second part to achieve it, I still don't understand them very well and believe me I try but I always look to learn something new with them nodes but I always think I stick with the basics but well, little by little I'm improving thanks for teaching for free you know what was missing in the video the cube asking the questions hahaha I identified a lot with the cube hahaha
Holy cow, this looks even better than the animated grass in The Boy and the Heron (new Ghibli movie)!! You are so talented, thank you for teaching us your ways 🙏🙏🙏
I am really enjoying these toturials, i finished the tree and rain one. I was like some grass would go with the tree and rain. Glad to know i been blessed by your toturials.
my texture just displays as black, not sure why the uv map isn't working. at 8:44 when i connect "curve to mesh" and "combine XYZ" to the viewer to check, the texture is still gray--no green/yellow/red gradient. same thing when i use the viewer to check the mesh islands, no colors just gray. can someone help??? i've rewatched the video so many times :( i'm using ver 4.2.3.
@@maceocz just tried it with the addon and i did see the UV and mesh island ID colors, but the UV map still doesn't seem to work in the shader :( let me know if you figure it out!
@@WBlueberryW It actually works for me... Did you switched to material or rendered view ? Normally if you follow the tutorial after this part, it will work... When i had issues, i tried it on his file instead of mine (link in the description), maybe you'll see some differencies with your setup...

I wish to understand why certain nodes are used and what they do and why they are connected the way they are. This is very much explaining step by step how to make grass like you reading off the script. I really dont understand what each node does though
It's a really nice looking grass, thank you for sharing! However, my grass planes kinda stand on one end, like the grass "square" doesnt have the edge against the ground, just one corner. So the grass kinda leans
Hmm there might be something wrong with the UVMap data as that is responsible for driving the textures. Try enabling the node wrangler addon and ctrl + click some nodes to verify the output. 👍
@@gondola9515 @tawansunflower Thanks! Tweaked curve line node + some other settings and now it looks fabulous. 👍 Is it possible to make the grass interact with objects? For example rotate away from an object to make it look like its moving through the grass. I tried to combining a technique from another grass tutorial, but wasn't able to get it to work. So far I only managed to delete grass when an object moves through it.
I love the tutorial and how you teach! i followed your instructions but i would like to know how can i create my own "grass" pattern, because i saw in the file there is a png file with a collage of grass, but how did you do that? how can i create mine?
Ou! The grass texture was created using a collage maker online XD You can create your own grass textures in Clip studio paint or photoshop, export them and put them in a grid using one of the collage makers 👍
Mhmm. You need two things: the closest point from the grass to the cube and whether or not the grass hit the cube. I'd personally use the Raycast node because it has Is Hit and Hit Position output. I'm not sure if there are easier ways to do this, but I hope this helps 👍👍
For this, I created a "color attribute" on my plane (in the data tab, where you can also create vertex groups) and painted it as I wanted in the 3D viewport/vertex paint tab. Then I went back to my grass node and opened the "grass generator" that he compiled. Inside this, you can add a "named attribute" with the data type "color" and the name of the "color attribute" you just created earlier as parameters, and link its "attribute output" to the "density mask" input of the "generate hair curves." I hope I could help... I also want to do it for the "hair length," but it's not working... If someone can help!
Hi, amazing tutorial! for some reason objects don't cast shadow in my grass, any idea what can be the cause? i can send my file for you to have a look if you want
Of course! You can duplicate the cards and rotate 90 degree to make them look like those in Minecraft or even turn the them in to cylinders if you have proper UV for it. 👍 The Curve Profile of the Curve to Mesh node can be any curve.
great tutorial but for some reason in the finished product for me, only the grass is showing up. The tall grass and flowers are not showing up in the end. why is that? i really wanna fix it
Does the geometry shows up in the Viewport? 🤔 If it does then there maybe something wrong with the UVMap as that's responsible for displaying the grass. If it's wrong it will display transparent image.
@@tawansunflower Just had to reset blender, the trick as old as time works when you least expect it. Thank you so much for being so fast with the response! Love your videos!

keep going.
I changed my teaching style with this one XD

Hi, great tutorial~, is it possible to add geometry proximity to the cube, I tried but it didn't work well, can you give me a hint~many thx

How would I use the "Mask Texture" part of the Generate Hair Curves node to mask off certain sections of the ground to prevent grass from being there?

Is there a way to cover grass material to full length of grass curves. Grass material only covers half of grass curves.
i really love your videoo

@@tawansunflower tks bro, love your tuts :3
is this possible in blender 3.6?
Mhmm maybe. 🤔 But I think it's going to be a little harder because you won't have some useful nodes like the Active Camera to use.
great tutorial but for some reason in the finished product for me, only the grass is showing up. The tall grass and flowers are not showing up in the end. why is that? i really wanna fix it
Mhmm there might be something wrong with the "random" attribute as that's responsible for picking the different types of grass.
@@tawansunflower it works now! the domain in the "random" attribute was set to spline instead of points.(my bad) Thank you!

At 6:16, I almost give up. How the hell artists figure all this out? Like, how do they know which node connects to which, and how to use each node?
For some reason when I render it doesn't show up :c

I really need to know how to make it in Unreal5
I think it's possible 👍 I'm not an expert of Unreal Engine, but I believe it can be done using the blueprints.
why does mine simply turn into big triangles instead of grass like in 1st video
Hmm there maybe something wrong with the curve to mesh node. 🤔 See if your curve profile is set correctly
