  • A gutter on a clients house was overflowing because of the amount of water flowing onto it. The area under the patio was paved so we increased the existing downpipes capacity without adding any new downpipes. This saved money on soakwells and paving.

Dennis, you are a real genius. I just came back from my rental house and water was running from the eaves under the patio. Many thanks, this should solve my problem. 👍

Hi Dennis, thanks for the great video, we are having trouble tracking down some 200 x75 downpipe section - was this piece custom made?

Hi Dennis, good trick with the way you cut the eaves with the screwdriver. My question is would you use the same technique for eaves that have asbestos in them?

It does work on asbestos eaves aswell and is probably the best method as there is no dust. just make sure you wear all the safety equipment and if the eave is old be gentle.

Your sereis on this topic is quite superb. Can you please tell me why you did not just run a 200mm downpipe all the way down to the soakwell instead of using the rainhead with the original size downpipe?

Because at the bottom the 200mm wide downpipe will never fit into the soak well attachment. so, to make it fit you would have to replace the stormwater connection with a big grate. then you would have to alter paving and may have to alter the level of the pipe under the pavers.

The gutter emptying out gets bottle necked by the Downpipe opening/ elbows causing it to bank up. Opening up the initial gutter outlet increases flow without restriction at the gutter end, gravity and straight line down does the rest. Basically think of a water bottle upside down trying to empty without an air flow, glub glub glub verses steady stream when it can breathe.
