Hi everyone! This video was scripted back in April, and as with any video that takes a long time to put together, I always think of new things to say and better ways to say them long after the VO has been recorded and edited. So here's the addendum:
    - In this video, I wanted to focus on macro beliefs that have changed, rather than the small habits that I think are helpful in personal finance (e.g. have a budget, track expenses, get a credit card etc.). I still believe in the importance of these actions but it might be for another video!
    - At 17:45 I mentioned "median income" but I misspoke - anyone at any income level can start investing, as long as you have enough money leftover after your expenses. Median income in Singapore is $5k (in 2023), and I'm not even there yet lol but I was already investing back when my salary was $3k!
I'd love to hear your own money beliefs; please share them in the comments if you want to!

I am in between 2 cultures, 2 families where the chinese part strong work ethic & practises wealth should be passed down to children. The Muslim part believes in Zakat & puts religion above wealth. Wealth is not evil, is what we do with it. I feel very lucky to be loved by both perspectives 😍

A month late but i finally got around to watching until the end. Very insightful video. And I resonated with what you said in 4:09. I think its a common malay family belief/culture. Hope us/the future generations can take the time to learn about money/budgeting/finance & what not because it for sure can benefit us. I also truly love that you include the story of Nabi Muhammad (SAW) about tying your camel. Also like Allah mentioned in the Quran which i feel can also benefit us, is this - “Verily, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves." - Quran 13:11

This is a great video. Mindset can be vague, but once you breakdown one by one, and start to see how these beliefs evolve inside our brain, then we can see it clearly. Good for learning too. Sometimes it is the "unlearning" that is the hardest part

I enjoyed hearing how your perspective has evolved over time, especially in unlearning certain aspects. It’s clear that financial stability (vs way back when you were a fresh grad) has played a significant role in this transformation. Agree alot with this "a good and fulfilled life is not a destination but a way of living"
p.s love the new graphics - great job to both you and your friend!

I like this video, and its enlightening. I do learn a lot and have tailored some of the things I've learnt from you to my own finances. I'm sometimes disheartened when a lot of non-muslims comment that malay/muslims are lazy or just not smart with money because not many of us are as rich as our peers. but having our religion govern our mindset around money can truly be a beautiful thing where we ethically grow our money and be spiritually aware of the role of wealth on this Earth and in the HereAfter. I really do love your vlogs and I can understand the mindset shifts and the difficult journey.
I'm not one to comment on a person's relationship with God, but I do sincerely hope that as you are taking on the responsibility of being your mum's caregiver, that she understands the role of riba' in growing your finances. I'm bringing this up as religion seems to play quite a bit on your mindset in the first two sections of your video.
I wish you all the best with your new role in TWS too! Look forward to more content :)

Hi Lisa, thank you for all your videos, they are very educational. I often watch your videos with headphones on in the mrt. I’m an audio engineer and one thing I noticed especially with this video is that the audio quality can be improved with better editing and processing. I’m talking about things like sibilance and plosives especially the former which can cause ear fatigue under prolonged exposure. I’m willing to help you with the audio for free. Please feel free to drop me an email next time if you need to. Thanks!

Sorry to know you had depression, but is all good now. Pls be aware that you are not alone.
I have had a decent career and yet now suffering from anxiety disorder which placed a brake to my burgeoning career. Let’s just say it allowed me to stop and smell the roses now.
Never regretted this condition be learning to accept it, spent much more time and effort with my family now instead of in my career.
