Hey everyone! Back in my own Scrap Mechanic Survival world again and I'm excited to keep working on the floating houseboat! In this episode I end up expanding the houseboat quite a bit, to the point that it is basically a ship, if not a barge! Whatever it is, it is becoming to be an epic mobile base that will hopefully serve as a useful tool in Chapter 2. Oh, and it finally moves! Kinda...Make sure to check out the video and I hope you guys enjoy the build! See you in the next one!
Thanks for watching the video! If you enjoyed it, make sure to like it, share it with your friends and give me your feedback in the comments below!

Kosmo in single player: Ordered and Planed
Kosmo in multiplayer: Steals every single sign from abandoned shops
accurate
True
Just imagine Kosmo finishing this adding tons of thrusters and they add propellers to the game.
Kosmo be like " BRRRRUUUUHHHHH ! "
Honestly they need to hurry up and make that thrusters take so much grinding
Fant Mod has them and they work great!
@@sammyronald8543 I know , 50 component kits for each !!
They really need to add both those to the game
You need to separate the bubble blocks apart as the game takes one big connected slap's centre and lifts it up a lot at the centre point.
This went from house boat to mega ferry ⛴ and it’s still the coolest scrap survival build
Thank you Sammy!
kosmo gets way too little likes for the amount of effort he puts into his videos
That's some insane effort, and even if barge isn't practical to use so far, it all definitely paid off in one great episode
Thanks White Void! Apologies for the late comment. I'm keen on making this thing even a tiny bit more practical! If it can move at a decent speed and turn, I'll be happy :)
@@darealkosmo Oh man, that's awesome! Looking forward to it
Kosmo, if you put several slabs of bubble block that are not attachet to each other, the raft will float much better because of the Scrap Mechanic Physics.
I think you’re right, let’s make this comment go up
Also, you could use thrusters for steering; if you place a couple at the corners, you can use a couple weaker thrusters to turn the boat, PLUS you can add in some logic to give you strafing movements as well (which would make moving it around the dock and the shore a lot easier)
Thank you for 100,000 views, everyone! 😲
I just started watching this vid I just love your vid also I might make a floating bace cause I have this game
Mind blowing🌋🌋🎇
It might be cool to take out the center pallets and replace them with a lighter block; that way you have less weight to keep afloat, and you’ll have a section of floor that breaks up the single texture of the blue pallets
I really hope Scrap Mechanic drops a water physics update so that objects move easier in water. It would also be great if they added wings, propellers, and boat engines (something that actually moves in water)
that would be really nice!
I've built simillar project in crative, so it was realy funny to watch your six thrusters and all that optimism :D Kosmo... it will take like 32 of them. You don't even have your craft bots on board. :)
Hey Kosmo, you can put the thrusters on a bearing in the middle of the barge and have it rotate so you can do strafing maneuvers to dock it
That's a good idea!
Kosmo: hey who could say you can float?
Wood: *physics did*
hahaha
ehh to make a suspension steering you should weld both extremities of the suspension on bearings it gives you twice the power. you can also (probably) put other suspension glitches but all the glitches welded together in one piece (like multiple suspensions welded to the same bearing in a 4 spokes config rt something) i don't know if anyone will understand my nonsense but it's very efficient. I can make one on the workshop for you to see if you want
my mining rig wouldn't steer i've welded two suspension glitch basically build like that O------O------O with O as bearings and ------ as the suspension and it was steering too much. like Beyblade too much.
28:39 Canadians when the sun isn’t up for 17 hours in the summer
“ *what form of black magic is this* “
lmao so true
yooo staying up till 3 brings me this
If you hook a chest up to a fuel canister via the connections you can connect the fuel canister to a thruster and when the canister is empty the gas will get taken from the chest
Just FYI..
Kinda wanna make my own now. But not now. I'm too busy doing nothing.
Edit: You can put the pods underwater and on a steering bearing to turn. Might as well use your fuel if you have it. Also you will probably need to make a fuel pump on the bottom so when you're docked you can make gas from the underwater wells (I don't know if that actually works but it's your only choice for sustainable movement).
1:30 parents talking about walk to school be like:
Idk abt you but I got major "back in my day" vibes from that😂
yes underrated
In order to get more powerful suspension steering you need to stiffen the actual suspension pieces.
46:37 Hello, this is the German coastguard. What are you thinking about?
Also, put those trusters on a bearing, you need all the help you can get! And if you wanna make the barge move quicker, you'll have to leave some stuff on the ground, it's too heavy!
Anyway nice episode, I appreciate the work you put in.
I'm determined to make it work! Definitely need to have the thrusters turn, and maybe find a way to have an alternate power source to help the thrusters propel the ship forward
If you dont mind having a steam boat looking thing, 00fant has a video detailing how to make actual working paddles that can move watercraft. I use it myself on a small exploration bote in my Survival world
I just realised how much higher your voice is in this series compared to your scrap mechanic coop with Kan. Seriously, it's like an octave up.
that's funny lol
Love the vid! Keep up the great work!
Hey Kosmo! I think kAN showed that the bubble blocks are more effective when in sections rather than one solid layer. Maybe putting a dividing line through them could help?
If louder horns are a thing, you should put a ship horn on it!
Feels like your playing raft in scrapmechanic 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
🎶"Lord I was born a rambl'n man! Tryin' to make a livin' and doin' the best I can."🎶
Really enjoying all of your videos in scrap mech. Keep up the great work.
lol! Thanks for the comment, made me laugh
I'm down for this kind of double feature episodes!
Also, i'd appreciate you showing how to get the suspension glitch working (assuming you'll get it working), as i personally have only very rudimentary idea of how they work. :)
Also, also, you could add a small "lip" to your bridge, so that it comes few blocks over the deck, and get some extra room inside.
U should name the barge “ The Bubble Barge “
this truck with all these lights looks a lot like the truck for the Coca Cola Christmas commercials in the 90's
haha so true!
me singing to the farm bots “I wana run u over in my truck honk honk!”
Never gonna let you go
I love how you do both a solo and a co-op because it means you can test stuff in the co-op because gathering resources is faster and if it works you can make/do it in the solo
43:40 Big brain move. Hook all the lights up to a timer so they turn on automatically at night.
Can't wait to have the clock block for that!
Add cuts between the bubble blocks, the more squares of bubble blocks you have that aren't connected to other bubble blocks, the more stable it will be.
Basically, just make segments of bubble blocks, and it will work significantly better, and cost fewer bubble blocks
thanks for the tip!! I will do that :)
His laugh just makes my day for some reason :D Keep up the amazing work!
Try to go controller-powered. You can try to use oars or steamer wheels to move the creation. By separating individual paddles with bearings or pistons from the main body part you can make the game calculate them independently and thus enable them to move in water with great drag half of the time and in the air with less drag in the opposite direction. I tried it and it kinda works, not sure how it will work for such a giant creation as yours though. Since the setup is cheap, you only need bubble blocks, bearings and couple of max tier controllers. In best case it will solve your propulsion and steering problems without any glitches. In worst it will just add aesthetics for your creation and add extra stability and buoyancy. That still sounds like a better option than water sprinkler powered or slug powered boat.
This is insanely complicated and very inefficient. Also creates a little bit of lag, not ideal for TH-cam content creators.
I’m working on my own house boat and I was using the blue crates and it was slow changed them out with net around bubble blocks and it moves faster with only 4 lvl 5 thrusters the blue crates have a high friction compared to the net and bubble blocks maybe that might help you with yours
interesting! I'll have to do some testing.
Can't wait to watch it. Gotta take my sister to school though.
I think it can't steer because the suspensions have things/blocks around them, which keep them from moving to the sides. Try this: you use offroad suspension, so you need a 5 blocks in a line for supporting the steering, then you need 2 bearings, one above each of the end blocks of the supporting line, then on one steering you place a block, then place the suspension on that block facing towards the other bearing, then place the vehicle on a lift and place another block above the other bearing, touching the suspension. The suspension mechanism (2 bearings, 2 blocks, and a suspension) needs one block of air on each side, for each block of the mechanism. You can steer both ends of the suspension, for a somewhat stronger steering force.
To make the suspension glitch more powerful, you can use two bearings for rotation, and you can stack suspensions together. Staking them parallel is less efficient than staking them in series (suspension, block, suspension, block, etc.), for steering, and for stabilization (suspension stabilizers).
The proper way to make suspension glitch turning is as follows:
1. Get a bearing
(1.1) Paint it black
2. Attach a curved pipe piece to the bearing, the way you want to face the suspension-piece itself.
3. Attach the suspension (can be both sport and off-road suspension, doesn’t matter that much in the end) to the curved pipe.
4. Put a block at the end of the suspension.
5. Build a border of blocks around the contraption you just built (the block at the end of the suspension-piece will move into this border, because totally accurate physics, and will create the glitch turning)
6. The obvious step; connect the bearing to a driver seat.
Now your creation turns on a dime!
@@CivilStig Blocks around it can cause it to phase through those blocks, especially when you hit something. That's why the suspension steering evolved to use two bearings. Place a bearing, place a block (doesn't have to be pipe block), place suspension on one side of the block (just not above the bearing), then one block in front of the suspension place another bearing on the same surface as the initial bearing, then with the creation on a lift place a block on that second bearing or in front of the suspension. Being on the lift will allow that block to be connected to both the bearing and suspension. Now attach one bearing or both bearings to a seat, and you have suspension-steering. For a stabilizer, you just need to start without the initial bearing, while doing all the other steps.
@@SapioiT Ah, I get it. Still, it might be better to let the boat turn by using 'simple' thruster on a bearing (to a lvl 5 seat so that you can adjust the steering angle to be very large).
@@CivilStig With the principle of the lever, and the practical experience of having a suspension stabilizer on a part of a vehicle which is more likely to rotate more (i.e. mounting the stabilizer of a bike on a flag pole), I think that using a suspension steering on a long pole will likely work bettter, and I will test whether the suspension needs to be close to the controlled bearing, or away from it. If I don't reply or change my comment in half an hour, please remind me to do so.
@@CivilStig Alright, so I found something valuable. Adding a lot of blocks to the pole of the suspension doesn't help, but having suspensions in a series seems to help around as much as having them in parallel, or a bit less. Having a seat connection on both sides does, however, increase the strength of the steering. I have made a short video wit it, and I will post it on my channel in a few minutes. By the time you see this comment, it might already be online.
Tbh I fell like you should make this a car carrying boat when the chapter 2 drops.
Kosmo: Its too dark at my Base at night. Me: At day I have to turn my lights out or it´ll blind me XD
the bubble plast can be acting weird on water if one large surface.
maybe cut a row between sections to make them all have a floatation value.
if just one large block then game can settle it on water even in a 45´ angle and mess up balance.
You just need to get your thrusters above the water. They provide more torque in the air. maybe you build them inside of your tower. Also you might think about building a propeller and a paddle that move when you go and steer. Just for asthetics ^^
I like this idea!
@@darealkosmo and I like your videos. Equivalent exchange if I'm right xD
Also upgrade and stiffen the steering suspension. It works better with every higher level of stiffness
and your boat might start turning if you upgrade the suspension to lv5 or the turning of the bearings aren´t lined up
If im not wrong, what I've seen in ScrapMans video. It's better to do segments of bubbleblock that isnt linked with eachother. So a square meter of bubbleblock, with 1 space in between.
You need to have those flashing green and red lights and a spotlight maybe
you could make a piston powered paddle
This is epic, now I wanna build a ferry
do itt!
I think this is the most longest video u ever done and has a nice content into it and probably this is one of the best video of the month for me
It’s gonna be a great day when Kosmo uploads a video that’s almost an hour long
Another big episode pls it was awesome
Can we maybe get more of these longer videos not just on this but on survival itself?
Ahh i love how kosmo is like:the water base have same weight on both sides and is not tilted, kosmo:its a little tilted to the left i will add some weight there later
I wonder if you spread the thrusters it would move a little better. Craft/Refine bot and resource collector are very heavy, you might need a lot of bubble block.
one way to find out xD
It is tilting a bit forwards, but that’s cause you have more weight in the front, and more pallets in the back
Kosmo you should make a boat that can go underwater then make a moon pool in the centre in you boat house and then you can drop a boat from a boat . The boat house should be called big Maud .
Great project & episode 👍 The colouration issue on the crates is, believe it or not, simply because of orientation 😁
haha uh oh...
Make a refueling station for your bardge to
You should do a small mining vehicle similar to the forklifts they add to the back of semi trucks, how they kind of latch onto the back and can be pulled down when needed.
good idea! I do need a new mining vehicle
Could you maybe use the trusters to steer by making them pivot on a bearing?
I think that will be the next step :)
Great episode! I was excited to see the house boat expanded and now I will await the next one.
you should probably try and make it a bit smaller, make the bridge less tall, and maybe put some engines on for the wheels on there. Or, instead of wheels, you could try a paddleboat type thing if that works
Paddleboats Work, kan and 00fant tested Them i think, They MIGHT Work depending on the size ofcourse
Kosmo, don’t forget to make both sections be able to float separate
good point!
You can make a better suspension glitch for turning but i don’t think the boat can steer with it. If you turn the thrusters you maybe able to do it.
Kosmo figured; Well i might as well make a driving christmas tree.
😂🤩
when the universe gives you that many lights, you make a driving Christmas tree :D
epic video man👍
Thank you Justin!
You should add a multi drive system, it was made by AL Magma, it allows you to change from a gas to electric engine. So you can climb better.
From what I've seen, a single contigious mass of the same buoyant material will NOT right itself in terms of angle; rather, the entire area of that material provides only a single force vector at its centroid. In order to have a self-righting buoyant platform, you need to separate your buoyancy into quadrants (replace a center "cross" of the crates with a different material so that the entire floor isn't just solid crate) such that each corner gets its own independently calculated up-force depending on its level of submersion.
That makes sense! Thank you for the tip!
Loving the barge! If I could make a small suggestion, it could be cool to have the control tower overhang over the deck a bit. It would open up a little space to walk past the stairs on the inside and then offset the seat so you’re not looking at that sliver of metal in first person. Just a thought!
Good ideas! Wrote them down
The suspension glitch will work better if they're max level, on max stiffness. May not make much of a difference, but it'll be better
Fuel go burrrrrn.
haha
Hey Kosmo, continue this!!
To be honest I think the captains bridge should be on the front and the living quarters at the rear just because visibility from the back is actually blocked by the house.
And should add navigation lights white the middle green on the right red on the left.
I've got navigation lights on the rear! :)
I would try to add one more thruster cluster, it won't be cheap and it'll probably take a long time. Wish I could help but I really think that's the solution.
THRUSTER CLUSTERRRR
longer episode equals more fun
Love the thumbnail! So powerful!
Thanks Kalsach! Thumbnails always take forever to get looking good :)
Kosmo, did you know tier 3 wood is more buoyant than bubble blocks?
But it is heavier so its pretty much the same
@UnitOfE Not completely true, you have to take the weight into the equation as well.
ngl, it looks like a cargo ship, good job and with all that room im sure you could use it as such.
Glad to see kosmo back to survival
You could expand the bridge at the top so you can walj around the front and maybe up one more floor like a crows nest
Yaaass 🙌
kosmo you should put a bunch of lights on your trailer to make it a more realistic semi truck trailer
scrap mechanic's road generation is soo realistic
😂
he reinvented big rigs
Btw at the end of the video, you said, if there is any ways for movement of the ship
I have been testing an inertia based propulsion mechanism so if it works ill be sure to give you the blueprints!
Thank you!!
10:28 Kosmo shut up and get to work 😎👌
haha excellent
You should make an hour long special of scrap mechanic.
You didn't show (or I missed it) the construction of your suspension glitches. They look like a block of weak suspension glitches. Each suitable for steering something light like your speedboat. Putting a bearing on each end of the suspension makes them considerably stronger.
In terms of getting that barge moving, you'll either need 30+ thrusters or to make use of something like 00Fant mod to use water jets.
Mind you, there's something to be said for aiming at a destination and simply leaving the thrust on for a day or so while you do crafting on the barge.
Hey cosmo pleas e read this
You can make 4 big pontoons made out of bubble block on the bottom of the ship at each corner and add 4 thruster clusters each one with 4 thrusters at each corner of the middle section of the ship pointing at a 45 degree angle upwards so the ship can sort of lift off the water to where the pontoons are on the water line to reduce drag on the ship's body and make you go faster
NOTE: you will need to make 4 more thrusters and much more bubble block for the pontoons I hope this idea helped you but I know it will be very grindy by the way I don't play the game but this idea seems really good please try it out and maybe ask Kan or scrapman or moonbo about this idea first I suggest you go to Kan first and maybe record his reaction about this idea because I wanna know too what he thinks
What do you think?
That seems like it could be worth testing out!! Thanks so much for the comment!
@@darealkosmo you are welcome bro
have a mass storage of oil connected to a crafter and have it constantly craft fuel onboard so you don't have to constantly refill it as much just change the chests
You should add a choper and a pad for it
just so I can say "GET TO DA CHOPPA!" whenever I want to go to mainland xD
WELCOME BACK TOOOOOO... THE LATEST OF IM SINKING!!!
YOOOO I GOT HEARTED BY MY FAV TH-camR!
Kosmo definitely should have tried putting the house on his truck and taking it with him, that would be cool. Great vid tho Kosmo!!
now I want to go back and put wheels on that house :D
14:44 "sraped" lol jk great vid - by far my favorite build of yours. May the algorithm be in your favor and grant you a new top video!
Thanks man! Sorry for the late reply, appreciate you commenting :)
Very nice episode thank you for spending so much time in a episode
I'll have to try!
Put four suspension glitch's in the front and back should make turning a little easier
Been prototyping stuff off camera because it's just that tedious, but so far no success! Might have to call in reinforcements.
@@darealkosmo just so you know you want to make sure that the suspension glitches are reversed on opposite ends turn you trust me I had to do a similar project though that was back in the day when the water mod was needed I don't know it's still works I cannot tell you how many hours I put into the game before I realized what mistake I made I had friends come and look at it they all said it was fine and I was just sitting there confused as to why my boat was just strafing and it hit me upside the head like a semi to a raccoon
hey here is a tip: do not connect the bubble block it treats is as one solid cube not a slab so disconnect them into 16x16 slabs it will be better edit watch some of the new nvp like the one that Kan makes a jet ski
good tip! Thanks man! I'll have to go back and do that :)
@@darealkosmo thank you so much you are the first youtuber that has replied to me and also to make it cleaner you can separate it with wood lvl 1 or up
god those lights :)
I loved the long video, I think it was great!! Keep up the good work!!
Thanks Rex!
