Our structures nowadays are more beautiful , because of the modern architeture and modern technologies...But compared during this 70s era ..The philippines was more beautiful in its simplest form...The streets were very clean. The structures were more organized and spaced properly( except those in avenida). The people looks more organized and disciplined. Traffic was manageable. I know during this era we are at our best as compared to our neighboring countries.

On the other hand, I tend to believe that neither one of the Philippine Presidents had anything to do with creating the resulting ambiance of Manila and its suburbs as it was once in its glory days from the late 40s, the 50s and through the later part of the 60s. Many may disagree with me, but I tend to think that this whole line of thought is a misconception. The only connection I see between any Philippine President and Manila as a City is that in its infancy as an independent Country, the Seats of its National Government, including the official Presidential residence, were mostly if not all located in Manila. After WWII, on its own and as the Country was weaned, it slowly developed into a stable Nation. Manila became the center and hub of Governance, Commerce and Industry. With little or no influence at all from its national government and more of good senses from its local City Leaders and City Officials, the City of Manila bloomed and transformed into a community with the right infrastructure and economic culture to support a modern City of the times. Much of the faster economic boom and more visible phase in this City's transformation as we see them in these nostalgic images of the past, came about in the early 50s through the early 60, during the terms of then Mayor(s) Antonio Lacson and Antonio Villegas. President(s) Quirino, Magsaysay, Garcia, Macapagal, Marcos, or Cory and the likes had nothing to do with it... or perhaps yes, but only a little. And yet, Manila was not the perfect City as reflected in these images. It had its share of faults and problems common to all growing metropolis. Many of its administrative Officials were no Saints nor were they Angels... with perhaps a few exceptions to the rule. I can say many citizens were happy but probably just as much were not. Some were content and yet some were struggling to make ends meet. But in the mix, people carried on with life as one made it. Everyone went about its business day after day, just as we all do today. No big deal. Those were the days, a bowl of good times, bad times and some so-so times. But we all survived and we have moved on. Today, in the Autumn of our lives, we look back at them... somehow a strange longing exists. Perhaps a wishful thought, to be young once again. Perhaps that is all we really want. But for all its worth, isn't it nice to glance at this nostalgic images even for just a moment, savor the past and smile... instead of looking back in anger?
