They were without a doubt the most dynamic performing live band. I saw them in '82, my first concert. Even without Moon it still was epic. My older Brother took me to it. He was a bonafide Stones / Zeppelin person. Never had a Who album of his own. He saw Zeppelin in '77 and the Stones in '78, and pretty much any big band that the late 70's had to offer. But after the Who concert he said it was a far better show live than the other two gave. And even before he passed in '99 he still said it was the best concert he had ever been to. For whatever reason he was really happy of all their "expect to hear" tunes in the setlist that they played Squeeze Box.
Have been to a couple Who concerts in SF Bay Area, never thought how much John Entwistles Bass had so much sound for The Who sound!!, well let’s face it The Who. is definitely one of the the best rock bands 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🎸🎸🎸🔊🔊🥁
Pete is playing point guard here. He's playing the strings, adjusting the amp, and in total connection with Keith, John and Roger. Even if you don't like the band, this video footage displays rock music at its best; Simply brilliant.
November, 1975. The Summit had been open for about 6 weeks, the home court for the Rockets and ice for the Aeros hockey team. I was 17 and finagled my way into getting a job selling popcorn at games. I had a laminated pass from Harry M Stevens Vending that got me into The Who that night...sat 10 rows from the stage, directly in front. After the concert a buddy of mine who was a bartender there found me in the crowd and told me to hang tight, we're gonna party with The Who, he said. I had mid term finals the next day but oh, well! Long story short, we followed the entourage to the Galleria Hotel, top floor and watched as Moonie danced with about 10 bare chested big tittied ladies for a "Squeeze Box" party, Entwistle got thrown in jail for being D&D, spoke with Pete a little...time of my life.
First heard this when Live at Leed's was released around 1970. I was stunned when I heard Young Man's Blues and Sparks. Never heard anything like it before. I never got to see them live or my favorite drummer Keith. This footage is such a blessing. Thank you for posting! ❤
There was a quote, maybe from a documentary or a new album promo that went something like: ' the truth is and it cannot be denied. No one plays rock n roll like The Who'.
The only thing that come close to this beautifully ferocious squall is Jimi. I love LZ but they NEVER made this kind of "brink of collapse," elephant in his death throe wail. They were the hardest most talented group of their day. That bass! Those drums! And Pete! That's only three boys doin' dat!
With Keith's 🥁 still on the Stage Floor. (No 🥁 Riser) They remained basically a Power Trio! Which enabled The Who to have these spontaneous live Jam's! Improvising 🎶 Through the Tommy set! They truly were a magical Group! Mick Jagger's young Ego! Kept the Rock and Roll Circus movie from being released until the late 80's. Because He thought "The Who" had blown away The Stones Live!! With They're Pre-Tommy song, "A Quick One" While He's Away! The Who were 1 of the best Bands Live in the early days & late 60's. The Who Opened for Herman's Hermits 1966 🇺🇸 Tour. Herman's Hermits never Toured again? 🤔
this is damn good. I always tend to think their best period was from, well, first signing in '63' til about '72 ish. I listen (like the rest of this house),usually to the Woodstock 'Sparks'.but YT proves again that they had their moments on any given night, especially if they were relatively sober that afternoon and evening. and no LSD was thrown in their dixie cups.
Regarding the '75 '76 tour (and I saw it at the tail end in Portland on Oct. 13th 1976 (oh, yeah, the barrier broke in the center, but I managed to stay left of it. Sheesh! THe crush was so strong you were FLOATING. It was not for the faint of heart!)), John Entwistle said that tour was so good, they could have played forever. When I saw them it was CERTAINLY an "on" night. Holy SMOKES!
@michaelworse6034 It's one of his many Les Paul Deluxes he had, in various colors. And Pete cherry-picked those from a truckload of Deluxes. So he was sure to get the best sounding ones. Les Paul's are like that - they all sound different. He got the best ones. And he played them through the best amps at that time. I have duplicated his tone chain. But I don't have a gold top.....yet....that one that he played through the 70s was a really good one and didn't get smashed!
@@harrykadaras9459 Hopefully you‘ll gonna get one ! My best wishes . I‘m more the SG guy , especially with P90s . That’s what I‘m hunting for . Peace out !
@michaelworse6034 thanks...yeah, I love the whole SG P-90 - 100W Hiwatt tone chain...Pete was so smart..he could have an engineer, and in a sense he was...he was half engineer and half artist...(or maybe 70% artist)...but as far as engineering a particular sound, he was right on the money in 1969/1970....
Also I believe maybe this is the concert Eddie Van Halen went too and got to meet both of his guitar heros..Pete and Eric Clapton who was there also. According to Ed's story..
My theory is Moon peaked around 72 or 73. Drinking and drugs took their toll by 75 so he was a shadow of his former self. He decided one way to remain relevant is to increase the size of his kit: two rows of toms, timbales, additional cymbals, hi-hat, etc. Since his talent was compromised, a bigger kit offered him an equal amount of attention.
These are great bootlegs- the only official of this stuff is Live at Leeds and Woodstock, 8 believe. Tanglewood of Sparks Amazing Journey is my all time fave boot of this, London is also good
Ladies and Gentlemen.......this is the real thing...
Yes Alan Yeeeeessss!!!!
Fuck yeah
Freaking awesome
Yes it is
Pete never gets credit for his lead playing. Great shredder
Entwistle, the best invisible bass player in the history of Rock.
Right? His playing carries this tune yet nowhere to be found.....
totally agree!
The Who are unlistenable without him.
It’s as if there was a conspiracy amongst film crews to not show him!
At their peak they were the greatest rock band .

@@jacktheripoff1888 Enjoyed reading that. Thanks!
So true Mark!!!!
@@jacktheripoff1888.. 82,, my first Who concert also! Houston,tx sold out!!!!
Undoubtedly the greatest rock and roll band of all time
Townshend going off one of rock’s greatest spectacles.
Some of the best Who footage ever.
Yap I agree, seen them 3 times - this was the WHO I remember, they always delivered 110%, took you for a ride you'll never forget.
The true innovators of hard rock
Keith in 75 is still really fucking good. Really shows!
The Who was controlled chaos. Such an epic band.
Will always love this piece of music. It's good to see it performed so well even as of '75. Keith was still a force here.
You hear the expression: A well oiled machine" The Who personifies exactly that
Pete is playing point guard here. He's playing the strings, adjusting the amp, and in total connection with Keith, John and Roger. Even if you don't like the band, this video footage displays rock music at its best; Simply brilliant.
SPOT ON!!!
Wish we could see more of the Ox. Bass playing incredible.
Goosebumps
And that's why i love the WHO.
When Townshend leans on Moon....then it is inspiring...the shaman pushes the boat right out...what a trip
Greatness coming out in every bead of sweat.
This is a JAM BAND.

If even half of that is true , what a night , cool story !!!
Dam outstanding - the standard
I saw this band maybe a dozen times Happy Jack thru Who Are You eras spanning years. They never, ever were anything but the BEST live band ever.
This is why rock was so inspiring… on the verge of meltdown - so much energy… amazing

Live at Leeds was one of my fav LPs to trip out to in the early 90’s… it was totally massive mayhem…
My Heroes 😊
every note is special
The Birdman makes another appearance !!! its a rare sighting
Soy fan de los Who desde hace 10 años y esta es una de las más increíbles interpretaciones de Sparks en toda su carrera...
la verdad que tenes toda la razon jajaja
"Sparks" doesn't begin until 2:24. Everything before that would be the last part of "Amazing Journey."
Keith’s a very aware intuitive drummer to be so tuned in to Pete’s pace and tempo which could speed up or slow down at any time brilliant drummer
There was a quote, maybe from a documentary or a new album promo that went something like: ' the truth is and it cannot be denied. No one plays rock n roll like The Who'.
Thank you for uploading this. This is incredible!
Just the BEST!
Does not get any better than this.
Kenny Vaughn said ..... they were like a SWAT team😅
brilliant
Rock'n Blues!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
75 best concert video ever ...

Pete at 4:07 - this is rock at its finest
Agreed
The drama of that moment is quite something. A rock god in action.
So good
This entire concert is available on DVD.
Thanks, I just borrowed it from the library
As far as trios go
GOAT🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
4:07 Entwistle plays THE BIG NOTE.
Как в загадке: один на брынчало, один на стучало и один на бухчало? "Искры" звука и драйва!
The Summit opened Nov. 1, 1975. The Who played there Nov. 20, 1975, and this was the first date in NA of the tour.
BRAVO!
Moon!

che forza , gli Who !!!!!!!!
Great bass tone from the Ox. Simply Monster!
Forget about "Mr. Beast", Pete Townshend is the ABSOLUTE BEAST on guitar.
I once met pete townshend out side his house once with his children a quiet family man on stage a job !!
Epic
Entwistle ....the invisible hero.
Fantastic
yeah man- great times
They should release a dvd of it
Sonic and glorious
как же круто!
RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWKKKKK!!!
they did NOT mess w/ Texas.
No SG with P90s but still what a spectacular guitar tone...

Listen to the Woodstock version of sparks...
listen to Pete at 1:43-1:46 that sounds like a damn tremolo pedal but he's doing it with his hands or the switch or something...oh my god
Pickup selector toggle switch is being wiggled back and forth
L'apogée du groupe ! Les tournées us furent dantesques !!!
Oh my!
Boys and girls - do not attempt this at home. The greatest live band ever.
Also I believe maybe this is the concert Eddie Van Halen went too and got to meet both of his guitar heros..Pete and Eric Clapton who was there also. According to Ed's story..
Amazing and how many times does the "sloppy" moon hit a rimshot? NONE!
A rock god moment .
Top That, Zeppelin
So fucking good.
Does any rock and roll guitarist even have a signature move anymore? Pete is as much fun to watch as listen to.
All of that mayhem & performance greatness - AND - he wrote incredible songs with beautiful lyrics!
nice Foxy feel here
The Birdman! (4:10)
0:40 Pete diming the already outrageously loud 100watt Hiwatt heads...!

Wow
75,76? Day on the green Oakland,CA with the dead!!
How on earth could they focus on Daltrey playing the tambourines when Keith Moon is wailing away, 2 feet behind him?
Perfect example of the person behind the camera and the videographer? having no clue where the sound is coming from. Entwistle's bass? Lordy!
Foxy lady!!
Led Zeppelin were awe-inspiring but they lacked the balls The Who mainly due to Keith Moon and John Entwistle!
Fuck me - just epic
The bext 4 piece to come out of Englamd with exception of The Beatles ~
KILLA
Does anyone know where I can get a video of the whole track? The medley they did with Amazing Journey at this concert
These are great bootlegs- the only official of this stuff is Live at Leeds and Woodstock, 8 believe. Tanglewood of Sparks Amazing Journey is my all time fave boot of this, London is also good
I believe this concert is in DVD on Amazon.
The zenith.
Not one shot of Entwistle gives this video a D-
