They were without a doubt the most dynamic performing live band. I saw them in '82, my first concert. Even without Moon it still was epic. My older Brother took me to it. He was a bonafide Stones / Zeppelin person. Never had a Who album of his own. He saw Zeppelin in '77 and the Stones in '78, and pretty much any big band that the late 70's had to offer. But after the Who concert he said it was a far better show live than the other two gave. And even before he passed in '99 he still said it was the best concert he had ever been to. For whatever reason he was really happy of all their "expect to hear" tunes in the setlist that they played Squeeze Box.
I had "Live At Leeds" at age 11, in 1972. I wanted to see them, terribly. I finally saw them, 3 miles away, in Cincinnati, December 3rd, 1979. I was 19 years old. Six people went down in front of me and never got back up. I had to step over a dead person to get in the door. He had been dragged in by his hair. There were a pile of shoes to my left. The Who sucked that night, on their first tour with Kenny Jones. I almost died there. The Who WERE NOT TO BLAME for 11 people dying that evening.
Pete is playing point guard here. He's playing the strings, adjusting the amp, and in total connection with Keith, John and Roger. Even if you don't like the band, this video footage displays rock music at its best; Simply brilliant.
I saw the Who on this tour in 1975.I saw them on December 15th, 1975 at the Spectrum in Philadelphia. It was the greatest concert that I ever seen. They finished with Won't Get Fooled Again with an incredible light show! I was so glad that I had a chance to see the original band before Keith died. Lo ng live The Who!!!
After Who's Next I started to sense a little slip. I'm not going to point any fingers because I knew what it was. I couldn't get enough of Keith Moon back in the 60s and early 70s, especially the 60s. The best pop, rock drummer around. Ever!
Have been to a couple Who concerts in SF Bay Area, never thought how much John Entwistles Bass had so much sound for The Who sound!!, well let’s face it The Who. is definitely one of the the best rock bands 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🎸🎸🎸🔊🔊🥁
That case can be made. Most will always "default' to The Beatles, The Stones, and Zep, mostly in that order. Personally, I prefer The Who to the Beatles, and I think they are at least the equal of the other two. At that level, it's hard to separate them.
There was a quote, maybe from a documentary or a new album promo that went something like: ' the truth is and it cannot be denied. No one plays rock n roll like The Who'.
November, 1975. The Summit had been open for about 6 weeks, the home court for the Rockets and ice for the Aeros hockey team. I was 17 and finagled my way into getting a job selling popcorn at games. I had a laminated pass from Harry M Stevens Vending that got me into The Who that night...sat 10 rows from the stage, directly in front. After the concert a buddy of mine who was a bartender there found me in the crowd and told me to hang tight, we're gonna party with The Who, he said. I had mid term finals the next day but oh, well! Long story short, we followed the entourage to the Galleria Hotel, top floor and watched as Moonie danced with about 10 bare chested big tittied ladies for a "Squeeze Box" party, Entwistle got thrown in jail for being D&D, spoke with Pete a little...time of my life.
There is a picture out there from that party and Keith Moon is wearing a ten gallon cowboy hat with topless gals around him. I’ve also seen the picture of Entwistle being arrested by the Houston PD…it was in this book “Sex, Drugs and Rock n Roll”.
First heard this when Live at Leed's was released around 1970. I was stunned when I heard Young Man's Blues and Sparks. Never heard anything like it before. I never got to see them live or my favorite drummer Keith. This footage is such a blessing. Thank you for posting! ❤
With Keith's 🥁 still on the Stage Floor. (No 🥁 Riser) They remained basically a Power Trio! Which enabled The Who to have these spontaneous live Jam's! The 👁️ contact between each other enabled the great Improvising 🎶 Through the Tommy set! They truly were a magical Group! Mick Jagger's young Ego! Kept the Rock and Roll Circus movie from being released until the late 80's. Because He thought "The Who" had blown away The Stones Live!! With They're Pre-Tommy song, "A Quick One" While He's Away! The Who were 1 of the best Bands Live in the early days & late 60's. The Who Opened for Herman's Hermits 1966 🇺🇸 Tour. Herman's Hermits never Toured again? 🤔
The only thing that come close to this beautifully ferocious squall is Jimi. I love LZ but they NEVER made this kind of "brink of collapse," elephant in his death throe wail. They were the hardest most talented group of their day. That bass! Those drums! And Pete! That's only three boys doin' dat!
Yes - I’m sure there must be an interview somewhere where he talks about this. Gibson dropped the LP for the SG so maybe there was a hiatus in availability. Pete is a big, strong skinny guy here: I’ve got a vintage LP and it’s bloody heavy so a full set with one is a workout. PT is one of my favourite guitarists ever but I don’t think his lead work is well served on studio recordings, I don’t know why but it’s often tonally thin so these live shows are really important.
this is damn good. I always tend to think their best period was from, well, first signing in '63' til about '72 ish. I listen (like the rest of this house),usually to the Woodstock 'Sparks'.but YT proves again that they had their moments on any given night, especially if they were relatively sober that afternoon and evening. and no LSD was thrown in their dixie cups.
Regarding the '75 '76 tour (and I saw it at the tail end in Portland on Oct. 13th 1976 (oh, yeah, the barrier broke in the center, but I managed to stay left of it. Sheesh! THe crush was so strong you were FLOATING. It was not for the faint of heart!)), John Entwistle said that tour was so good, they could have played forever. When I saw them it was CERTAINLY an "on" night. Holy SMOKES!
Never have 4 men commanded a stage before like the who and , I suspect, never will again. The power, the tunes, the playing and that feeling of never knowing where it’s going next. God bless the orrible OO
I love Sparks. Watch them play it at Woodstock in 1969. Pete was obviously inspired by the great guitar players at that festival, because I think that’s the best he’s ever played guitar (at Woodstock).
Ladies and Gentlemen.......this is the real thing...
Yes Alan Yeeeeessss!!!!
Fuck yeah
Freaking awesome
Yes it is
Pete never gets credit for his lead playing. Great shredder
Entwistle, the best invisible bass player in the history of Rock.
Right? His playing carries this tune yet nowhere to be found.....
totally agree!
The Who are unlistenable without him.
It’s as if there was a conspiracy amongst film crews to not show him!
@@jonathanbuck4318 even when he was playing the solo in my generation the camera would be on pete...

So true Mark!!!!
@@jacktheripoff1888.. 82,, my first Who concert also! Houston,tx sold out!!!!
Undoubtedly the greatest rock and roll band of all time
The Who was controlled chaos. Such an epic band.
Pete Townshend said sometimes you felt like you were flying in a plane without wings.
The organized chaos is the beauty of it!
You hear the expression: A well oiled machine" The Who personifies exactly that
Some of the best Who footage ever.
Yap I agree, seen them 3 times - this was the WHO I remember, they always delivered 110%, took you for a ride you'll never forget.
They had a bass player, too.
They left out John 😢
Its the best. John is fucking awesome on fire.
Keith’s a very aware intuitive drummer to be so tuned in to Pete’s pace and tempo which could speed up or slow down at any time brilliant drummer
The true innovators of hard rock
Townshend going off one of rock’s greatest spectacles.

SPOT ON!!!
Kenny Vaughn said ..... they were like a SWAT team😅
The best Lead Rhythm guitar player ever Pete Townshend
When Townshend leans on Moon....then it is inspiring...the shaman pushes the boat right out...what a trip
This is a JAM BAND.
Toured with the Greatful Dead- both greatest live- masters of jamming

Will always love this piece of music. It's good to see it performed so well even as of '75. Keith was still a force here.
After Who's Next I started to sense a little slip. I'm not going to point any fingers because I knew what it was. I couldn't get enough of Keith Moon back in the 60s and early 70s, especially the 60s. The best pop, rock drummer around. Ever!
This is why rock was so inspiring… on the verge of meltdown - so much energy… amazing

Wish we could see more of the Ox. Bass playing incredible.
Falling apart TOGETHER is the greatest sound I know. Controlled chaos, absolutely sublime. Thanks Bellboy.
The greatest ever

Goosebumps
Greatness coming out in every bead of sweat.
And that's why i love the WHO.
First time I've seen instant replay for a rock concert
Check out the whole Houston 75 show. The latest in 70s gimmicks.

Dam outstanding - the standard
townsend was always my favorite guitarist, nobody plays like him…mesmerizing!!
The original 'punk' rockers that knew how to play an instrument
every note is special
Sparks flying indeed
I saw this band maybe a dozen times Happy Jack thru Who Are You eras spanning years. They never, ever were anything but the BEST live band ever.
For the people who want the camera on John or Keith....the camera is on who it should be on one of the best rock guitarists ever Pete Townshend
The Greatest fucking BAND that EVER existed.... fucking.......PERIOD...BABY !!!!!
keith was a fantastic drummer
Finest rock band, EVER!
"Sparks" doesn't begin until 2:24. Everything before that would be the last part of "Amazing Journey."
The Birdman makes another appearance !!! its a rare sighting
Without Daltrey on tamborine this performance would have gone unnoticed.
75 best concert video ever ...

The drama of that moment is quite something. A rock god in action.

The Summit opened Nov. 1, 1975. The Who played there Nov. 20, 1975, and this was the first date in NA of the tour.
Soy fan de los Who desde hace 10 años y esta es una de las más increíbles interpretaciones de Sparks en toda su carrera...

Great bass tone from the Ox. Simply Monster!
Great tune, great performance.

Pete playing the Les Paul after years of the incredible power chords from the SG. Just slightly diferent, but still absolutely mind blowing!

Forget about "Mr. Beast", Pete Townshend is the ABSOLUTE BEAST on guitar.

It’s interesting to hear the way Keith lays right behind Peter. And then in front on lead drums
This is actually the best
