      @@chinesemedicinepodcast i’m a new subscriber. I needed to ask a couple of questions in regards to some herbs that I wanna take and I’m not sure if they’re safe for people with damn heat so oregano, oil or oregano. The herb is also antifungal antibacterial and helps with some fungal issues so I believe I have damp heat and I also have skin fungal issues. I’m not sure if there’s something that you could recommend for me as an herb, I prefer the natural route please if you could just comment I’m a new subscriber. I wanna check out all your other videos too. I totally believe in Chi in the body and yin and yang energies. It’s a little confusing and I just need some guidance.

      @@lisagardner4814 so firstly welcome, and glad you have found my channel. Makes sense you feel like you need guidance in this area as it’s difficult and that’s why practs like myself study for at least 4 years , more like 9 years study in my case, but anyway it’s a big area. I can’t give any individual advice on this channel, one because it’s impossible to make a diagnosis of someone’s Chinese medicine pathology from a yourube comment, and hence any recommendations without a proper diagnosis might be reckless. Esp I can’t comment if something is “safe” for you or not. That is such a complex term in medicine. I would recommend you seek the guidance of a Chinese medicine practitioner yourself and secondly, oregano oil is more the domain of a naturopath rather than a Chinese herbalist . Hope that’s helpful as an answer. Lastly I hope you can learn from my channel but it’s not meant to be a replacement for medicine / health care practitioners.

    Excellent information! Thanks so much. I already have a list of foods to eliminate. Question: I cook oatmeal each morning, I add Ripple Pea Milk Beverage. Yellow split peas are in the legume family. Is this a no-no? I also drink black coffee (one/day) with my oatmeal. I have been adding banana, blueberry, ground almond, ground pumpkin seed, ground black sesame seeds as well. Perhaps not so great???

    • @chinesemedicinepodcast
      @chinesemedicinepodcast  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      you could roast the oatmeal first before coolking it to make it less dampening and have it in winter only vs eliminating it altogether. or try taking it out and see if your symptoms improve. I can't offer super-personal specific advice because I'm not your practitioner, but I do offer online consultations if you want to explore these questions more and more for your own circumstances. Following a paleo diet would rule out the legumes. there is evidence to suggest this is the most closely aligned diet with a "healthy tcm diet" , beans drain and eliminate so could be used in the short term to reduce damp but not long term and not when there is qi or yang deficiency.
      Hope this answer is somewhat helpful - Marie

    What about eczema, what we call in the states, dishydrotic eczema? A heat somewhere?

    • @chinesemedicinepodcast
      @chinesemedicinepodcast  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes any skin conditions that have weeping /fluid coming out can be a type of dampness - the heat component dries the fluids and dries the skin also, but often with skin problems its more complicated a than just damp-heat or dampness because its been going on for a while, there are more than functional changes happening. Often blood deficiency patterns are part of complex /long term skin conditions. Some acute flare up of skin conditions like eczema can be treated with damp-heat formulas or acupuncture treatments but then the next step is looking at other patterns. Damp-heat treatment can sometimes give relief but its often not the root cause is what I’m getting at.

    What causes UTI infections? Is it damp heat? I’m getting treated with herbs and acupuncture but there’s a language barrier so I don’t know what my diagnosis is but the treatment is working. They didn’t mention foods to cut out just coffee and I just assume alcohol would be a no go.

    • @chinesemedicinepodcast
      @chinesemedicinepodcast  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      often the UTI patterns in TCM are damp-heat or simply just dampness (turbid urine, cloudy, stronger odor or warmness) damp-heat would be a burning or much more of a warmness, darker stronger colour, darker or deeper yellow odor, and much more stink than dampness alone. if the treatment is working then that in a way confirms the diagnosis - so if the herbs are to treat damp-heat and they are working then you probably have damp-heat. for instance. yes its a good idea to avoid alcohol as it only over-heats the situation and if its beers/cider /sweeter alcohols its going to be more dampening. Heating comes from all alcohols but esp spirits, depends the quantity also

    I have all the symptoms of damp heat but I have chronic constipation, would this mean I have cold dampness?

    • @dilettanter
      @dilettanter ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Constipation can be due to various causes. If you have no urge to go it could be due to defiency, like qi deficiency. If it is very dry it could also be blood deficiency. Other causes for constipation include heat, as this can dry up the fluids. Constipation in this case would be more heat (rather than damp)

  • @gonova8412
    @gonova8412 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I lef a question on another of your videos. I asked about damp heat vs damp cold. Here you talk about damp heat vs plain dampness. Is plain dampness what I’m looking for? Is plain dampness equivalent to cold dampness or at least the opposite of heat dampness? I can’t find any info of coldness in general. It’s weird. Or is it me? Am I looking for filtering that not there?

    • @chinesemedicinepodcast
      @chinesemedicinepodcast  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I'm sorry I didn't reply to your comment before. sometimes I see these comments then think it really needs a video explanation rather than a text reply. In general the body's yang (warmpth) declines) so it will get cold without yang - that would be the effect of dampness in general is going to have a lack of yang, hence a colder effect on the body, where as damp-heat is more like an infection, hot-inflamation kind of situation, gastro bug (etc , as mentioned in this video). TCM talks of Damp-cold invading the joints /channels etc as well which is again just regular dampness will tend to have a cold effect more often (because damp is a yin pathogen,,,so you are going to have yin taking up the yang space) hope that makes a kind of sense to answer your question.

      @@bottom0043 In TCM the pattern is the cause of the symptoms, definatley there are patterns of damp-heat--> acne. Infertility can be a part of it but its not usually the main cause, usually its going to come down more to blood def, blood stagnation, other deficiency patterns, but accumulation of damp can be part of contributing to those patterns / a part of a person's constitutions even that then becomes part of their infertility. (This is more about general dampness with a background of Sp Qi Xu/Spleen energy deficiency in TCM ) The explicit pattern of damp heat in this video is more about an acute situation that doesn't lead to infertility.
