- This video shows the evolution of Istanbul Metro from 1875 to 2030 and beyond.
Please note that
1. in Istanbul, most tranfers require a tap out before changing to another line, and the station symbols in this video do not represent the type of transfer (direct or tap out) in any stations,
2. the paths and positions of stations are not 100% accurate,
3. some of the future projections shown are not confirmed,
4. the Chinese translations of the station names are not official, you could raise them in the comments if they are wrong or if there are better translations.
此视频展示了土耳其的最大城市伊斯坦布尔从1875年到远期的地铁、有轨电车和其他轨道交通的发展史以及未来规划。
请注意:
1. 在伊斯坦布尔,大部分的换乘均为虚拟换乘或需出闸机换乘(包括大多数的地铁与地铁之间的换乘)。本视频的换乘标志并没有说明该车站的换乘种类;
2. 地铁路线和站点的位置并非完全准确;
3. 部分未来地铁规划未确定;
4. 地铁站的中文翻译并非官方翻译,如果觉得翻译有误或者有更好的翻译可以在评论区里提出。

Hello everybody. From outside of the city, some of you might find the structure and the general design of the Istanbul metro weird. However, it would be best if you kept in mind that the city's terrain is quite hilly, there is a strait that divides the city into two parts, and it hosts more than 16 million people. Hence, the planners take the train stations to where people concentrate the most and as much as the terrain allows.
İts true
Straight = dümdüz
Strait = boğaz
Best to say: There is a strait that divides the city in two

Actually there were lot more trams in istanbul before the 1960s. Total length was 34km in europe and 11km in asian continent. But then the new government started replacing trams with buses in 1956. After years they realised that they've made a mistake but it was too late
There were zoning and population restrictions in Istanbul until 1950. Thus, Istanbul was a peaceful and beautiful city. However, the government that took office between 1950 and 1960 lifted the restriction and Istanbul quickly became filled with slums and overpopulation. Subsequent governments did not impose any restrictions. Thus, today Istanbul has become a troubled city with a quarter of Turkey's population.

amazing work. two notes:
- some lines (especially trams from the ottoman / early republic era are not shown here.
for example the istiklal tram (T2) was used during the Ottoman era. It was merely reintroduced in 1990. another tram line between üsküdar and kadıköy that used to pass from doğancılar çiçekçi and selimiye neighbourhoods was made obsolete. There were many more including one passing from Beşiktaş.. obviously tracking and including these to the video would be too complex.
- the video is 9 months old. some new lines were announced. like the üsküdar - kadıköy - maltepe tram line, which was inspired from the old line i mentioned above but this time using a slightly different route to get to kadıköy from üsküdar.
it really amazed me how the infrastructure of istanbul is growing by the day. truly amazing
Good job to you and to Istanbul!
Amazing video

this videos are really nice.
Marmaray was created by modernizing the infrastructure of 2 suburban lines and connecting them to each other by adding Ayrilikcesmesi and Uskudar stations. The B1 suburban line served between Sirkeci and Halkalı between 1955 and 2013. Also the B2 suburban line served between Haydarpaşa and Gebze between 1969 and 2013.
Yes, it was rebuilt with all of the old infrastructure removed. There is demolishing and rebuilding, not modernization.😂
Keeping the same route is a better definition. Modernizing is something different. It was widened, new tracks, infrastructure, new metro cars and everything. PLUS it goes under the Bosporus strait.
Yay, new metro
In the firsr half of 1900s, there were tram lines but eventually they were replaced by trolleybuses which were very inefficient in 50s or 60s as i remember. Later, they were replaced by buses. Even the moda and istiklal street nostalgic trams were not existed at that period. They were re-established after 1989
Also old european and anatolian side suburban trains are missing, marmaray is shown here but simply marmaray is a modernization and connection project for these two lines. Which disappeared for nearly 5 years in 2010s
what a beautiful channel
Harika❤
Can you make a video of the Santiago metro??? Although there are some, the long-term plans were improved and now there are some extensions that do not appear in the other videos. It would also be interesting if you also include its suburban train network, which is also expanding. You could also add the Santiago cable cars (currently it is is creating one that is more massive) and if you can add the 2 funiculars that the city has?
Santiago has the best metro in Latin America.
perfect video
Very very good video 😍👍
Very nice video and nostalgic might I add. 7:44 Pokemon Diamond music! My childhood😄

Beautiful. You should check out Ankara and other cities too.
Halkalı gets 5 interconnecting metro lines meanwhile the Sarıyer residents have only two options to be able to stay in touch with the rest of İstanbul; the coastline and Büyükdere Avenue, which is a choice between death and eternal suffering.
It is a very succesful video, Congratulations.
But you have forgot İncirli-Söğütlüçeşme metro line. It will substitute the eastern half of Metrobus line. Also you didn't add Metrobus line, maybe because it is not a railway, but you should. Metrobus line is the most important mother lode of Istanbul which transports 1.6M people per day.
There were trams in Istanbul from around 1880s until 1960s before the reintroduction in the 90s
I “love” how some lines are crossing over without a transfer station. :(
The extension of Cibali-Eminönü, a part of the tram line T5, was opened on a special day, august 30 the Victory Day.

Fantastic video! As an Istanbul resident who is interested in rail transportation, I enjoyed this video a lot. The expansion of Metro Istanbul is sadly staggered a lot by politics; the Turkish governent and the Istanbul Municipality build and operate seperate sections of Metro Istanbul (for example the Marmaray line and M11 were predominantly funded by TCDD (the national railway administration in Turkey)) and the political parties use the metro as a sort of propaganda material to get more votes. This is a positive especially when the local elections are approaching as the rail line and station constructions get accelerated but whenever one of the sides are elected, the expansion slows down. The current mayor paid a lot of attention (and money) to expand the metro line and we have gotten some fantastic progress into the expansion of Metro Istanbul during this time and now that (as of writing) the local elections are quite close by, the expansion rate of the metro line is high, but time will tell if it will stay the same way after the elections.
Greetings from Istanbul and thank you for this fantastic video! Keep up the great work!

You have a few mistakes. 1. Before Marmaray, there were Halkalı-Sirkeci on the European side and Haydarpaşa-Gebze Suburban train lines on the Anatolian side in the 1950s. 2.The first tram in Istanbul was opened in the late 1800s, closed in the 1960s and opened in the 1990s. 3.T6 line is not a tram but a suburban train line.
