Gotta love Clara! She was a classic. This was one of the most simplistic commercials, yet it was brilliant. Where's the beef became one of the most popular catch phrases of all time.
For those too young to know - the slogan "where's the beef" became ubiquitous throughout the country and was borrowed for many things. You didn't have to watch this commercial to hear it several times a day. Everyone used it in just everyday language. It was great fun. The lady became quite popular for a while and appeared of various talk shows.
This is such a classic commercial , I still remember it 35 years later. They don’t make commercials like this anymore? Very unique and original, and the older ladies add to the uniqueness

Everything about this commercial was sheer genius and soooo funny! I’ll never forget the first time I saw it and burst out laughing! The next day at school everyone was asking “Where’s the beef?”
I remember this started a mini craze. I had a "Wear's The Beef" t-shirt. Kids at school would say the phrase. And it even became office humor and water cooler conversation. Even a few politicians used it while it was alive.
Clara made 317.00 dollars per day making these Wendy's commercials, while Wendys had some of their biggest sales years ever when she was the pitch woman.
This ad was probably one of the best ever created. It taught a generation to shop smart, maintain quality control and NEVER piss off an old geezer who wants her beef!
This actually happened to me at a McDonalds once! I was on a lunch break during my EMT recertification class and opted to hit the McDonalds behind the rescue squad. I asked for a cheeseburger with lettuce, ketchup, and mustard. I got back to the squad and discovered that...well, at least they got the toppings right. But NO burger OR cheese, just the toppings on the bun! So I stomped back down there and asked the person behind the counter “What is this, Wendy’s?” When he asked what I meant, I opened the bun and shot back, “Where’s the beef?” He laughed and gave me the cheeseburger made right!
@Karl with a K Why should I waste what amounts to a word salad saying essentially the same thing when four will do? The “Where’s the Beef?” commercial was immensely popular and even now has gone viral on TH-cam and other sites, so it’s not like people can’t immediately make the connection. At least I was able to use that quote to make light of the situation and joke about it instead of being a total Karen about it and ripping them a new one, which sadly is what too many people do these days. You do you, and let me be me.
I love how "fluffy bun" was intended by the writers to be the "funny part", but that delivery on "where's the beef" was legendary, you can't write that kinda brilliance.
