What a bowler he was! Swing at that pace! One of my all time favorite. The only fast bowler who consistently troubled the mighty Australian batting lineup ever since his debut. Had he played long enough would certainly have been amongst the greatest of all time.. Was just too good for his body to handle.. Wish he played longer.. Strike rate and average was similar to that of Waqar Younis of 1990-93

Akhtar, Bond, and Lee made this world cup worth watching. All 3 steaming in and bowling 150+ km/h. In fact what made it better was that one ball was used for the entire 50 overs which also aided reverse swing and made them (Akhtar in particular) even more lethal. It's sad that 150+ speeds are a rarity these days and reverse swing with the white ball has become almost non-existent.

One of the greatest fast bowler I have seen during my 24yrs of witnessing this particular game i.e. cricket...he was only bowler in the world maybe alongside McGrath who could get Rahul Dravid clean bowled b/w 2002-2004...in his (Dravid's) prime...for me Shane Bond was the combination of McGrath's line ,length & accuracy and Lee's pace in one man...one of the most dangerous combo one can hope to find...for me he was the 007 ...Bond Shane Bond of the bowling...
I remember watching one of his recent two three years back video while he is bowling coach for some IPL team he gave small explanation on how to swing the ball...he showed the technique of knuckle bowl what a brilliant bowler Shane really was. I used to copy his bowling action when I played cricket.
He was a double edged sword... Normally as a batsman you either have to manage with pace or with swing but in case of Bond you have to manage with both... Astonishing bowling...

Looking Back now we realise how the quality of players have deteriorated. Especially with T20 matches the sport has become an entertainment and players are showered with money they don’t deserve .
